The notice received from the Agency for Science and Higher Education (ASHE) of the Republic of Croatia, issued on June 10, 2013, (class: 602-04/13-04/0038; number: 355-02-04-13-1) stated that our Faculty is included in the Plan for Re-accreditation of Higher Education Institutions in the Academic Year 2013/2014, received on June 24, 2013. This self-evaluation of our Faculty is not only a response to a demand, but also an internal necessity of our Faculty, after the implementation of the Bologna Process (started in the year 2000 by introduction of the European Credit Transfer System – ECTS), to review results, evaluate quality, and discover possible deficiencies for the purpose of improvement and further development of the scientific-research activity of the Faculty. Immediately after receiving the official notice on the need to carry out a self- evaluation of the Faculty for the purpose of re-accreditation in the academic year 2013/2014, the Faculty has taken first steps in preparing the aforementioned self-evaluation, while being aware of the nature and the scope of such a task. The first official meeting on the issue was held already on July 8, 2013. During that meeting, the Faculty management has thoroughly informed all employees in professional-administrative offices of the Faculty on the forthcoming self-evaluation and re-accreditation. Additionally, the Faculty management presented and described main tasks related to each segment of administration, professional, and support services. The working material of that meeting was the Guidelines for Drafting Self-evaluation Reports of Higher Education Institutions within Universities, which have been issued by the ASHE on September 13, 2012. At the same time, consultations have been made on naming members of the ad hoc Committee for Drafting the self-evaluation of the Faculty. On the X regular session of the Faculty Council, held on July 12, 2013, a decision has been made on founding the ad hoc Committee for Drafting the self-evaluation, which consisted of: 1. Higher Education Institution Management and Quality Assurance: prof. Tonči Matulić (Ph.D.), the Dean, prof. Josip Baloban (Ph.D.), prof. Ružica Razum (Ph.D.), the President of the Committee for Quality Assurance, and Ivan Mahečić (LL.M.), the Head Secretary of the Faculty. 2. Study Programmes: prof. Ružica Razum (Ph.D.), the Vice-dean for Teaching and prof. Blaženka s. Valentina Mandarić (Ph.D.). 3. Students: prof. Ružica Razum (Ph.D.), the Vice-dean for Teaching, Silvija Migles (Ph.D.). 7 Introduction 4. Teachers: prof. Mario Cifrak (Ph.D.), the Vice-dean for Organisational Issues, and prof. Ante Crnčević (Ph.D.). 5. Scientific and Professional Activity: ass. prof. Nenad Malović, (Ph.D.), the Vice- dean for Science, and prof. Ivan Karlić (Ph.D.). 6. Mobility and International Cooperation: ass. prof. Nenad Malović, (Ph.D.), the Vice-dean for Science, and ass. prof. Danijel Tolvajčić (Ph.D.). 7. Resources: Administrative and Support Services, Space, Equipment and Finances: prof. Mario Cifrak (Ph.D.), the Vice-dean for Organisational Issues, and prof. Slavko Slišković (Ph.D.). By the aforementioned decision, the process of preparation for drafting the self- evaluation of the Faculty has been intensified, while the operative and practical part of the task was put on hold until further instructions from the ASHE arrive. In the meantime, the Faculty management took part in the workshop for drafting self-evaluation, held on October 10, 2013, in Zagreb, which was organised by the ASHE. After that, two preparatory tasks were carried out: − on October 15, 2013, a notice on the need for promptness in carrying out assigned duties related to the self-evaluation, especially those related to delivering of personal data and filling in certain tables, was sent out to all teachers and associates of the Faculty; − a drafting of a proposal for new members of the ad hoc Committee for Drafting Self-evaluation of the Faculty has started; this aimed at a creation of an extended and operative system for more efficient work and participation of the largest possible number of the Faculty community (students, teachers, associates, non- teaching staff) in the process; In the meantime, the Faculty organised a workshop, held on October 23, 2013, for the purpose of familiarisation with demands and challenges in drafting of the forthcoming self- evaluation. The main lecture, which included sharing experiences related to drafting a self- evaluation and re-accreditation, was held by the Dean of the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Zagreb, prof. Tajana Krička (Ph.D.). All teachers and associates, postgraduate students, two representatives of each study year of each study programme, and all non- teaching staff participated in the workshop. After this informational workshop, the formation of operative working groups in the context of the ad hoc Committee for Drafting the self- evaluation of the Faculty followed.

Th e Department of Urology at the Sestre milosrdnice Uni- versity Hospital Center is the oldest urology institution in the Republic of Croatia. Th e Department was established in 1894, when the new Sestre milosrdnice Hospital was open in Vinogradska cesta in Zagreb. It was then that doctor Dragutin Mašek founded the so-called III Department, which, in addition to treating urology patients, also treated patients with conditions of the ear, nose and throat, eye diseases and dermatologic conditions. Dragutin Mašek had already realized that medicine would soon be divided into fi elds and had assigned younger doctors joining the III Department to specifi c fi elds. As a result, urology was given to Aleksandar Blašković, who founded the fi rst independent de- partment of urology in Croatia in 1926. In 1927, he was appointed Professor of urology at the Zagreb School of Medicine, where he established the fi rst department of urology and was giving lectures and practicals.

In addition to the introductory essay, the publication contains the catalogue of items with short descriptions. 4 Milan Pelc CENTURIES OF BOOK ART IN CROATIA Introduction Book art, a constituent part of written culture and Croatian cultural heritage as a whole, is ex- ceptionally rich and diverse. This essay does not pretend to describe it in its entirety. Its goal is to shed light on some (key) moments in its complex historical development and point to its most important specificities. The essay does not pertain to entire Croatian literary heritage, but only to the part created on the historical Croatian territory and created by the Croats. Namely, with regard to its origins, the Croatian literary heritage can be divided into three big groups.

  • Medjugorje's Effects: a History of Local, State and Church Response
MEDJUGORJE'S EFFECT'S: A HISTORY OF LOCAL, STATE AND CHURCH RESPONSE TO THE MEDJUGORJE PHENOMENON Teresa M. Pangle A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2011 Committee: Dr. Beth Greich-Polelle, Advisor Dr. Gary R. Hess ii ABSTRACT Dr. Beth Greich-Polelle, Advisor This thesis examines the impacts of the alleged appearances of the Virgin Mary which began in Medjugorje, Yugoslavia in 1981. Through the examination of primary sources such as Catholic Church and the United States Department of State documentation and eye-witness interviews, this study creates a basic history of the events in Medjugorje and clearly defines the Catholic Church’s position on these events. This thesis provides an academic history of the events surrounding Medjugorje and provides historical insight into the motivations behind the response of the local villagers and clergy members, the Yugoslavian state and the Vatican. The events studied include a carefully-documented history of the first two months of the apparitions, an account of the officially-atheistic, Yugoslavian government’s response to the subsequent religious outpouring, and a history of the Catholic Church’s response to the alleged apparitions up to the present day. The dispute of the authenticity of the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in Medjugorje - which is currently under investigation by the Catholic Church - is polarizing within Catholic culture. The historiography of these events is divided into two groups of “pro-authenticity” or “anti-authenticity” authors who publish opposing and even contradictory information while using the same sources.

  • Trajectories of Croatian Jesuit Historiography Brnardic, Teodora Shek
From Acceptance to Animosity: Trajectories of Croatian Jesuit Historiography Brnardic, Teodora Shek Teodora Shek Brnardić [email protected] Last modified: March 2018 Introduction The emergence of a Croatian historiography of the Society of Jesus took place in the often virulently anti-Jesuit and anti-clerical atmosphere that was prevalent in Croatia in the second half of the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century. This period represented a historical crisis for the Jesuit order in Croatia, one that provoked controversies that were largely absent in the pre-suppression period, unlike in many other countries where such disputes had existed ever since the sixteenth century. In 1932, Miroslav Vanino, S.J. (1879–1965) launched a scholarly journal entitled Vrela i prinosi: Zbornik za povijest isusovačkog reda u hrvatskim krajevima (Sources and contributions: Collected papers on the history of the Jesuit order in the Croatian lands),1 which marked a turning point in the creation of a Croatian Jesuit historiography. In doing so, Vanino intended to revise the prevailing view of the pre-suppression Jesuits, who were often accused of behaving in an “anti-national” way. This latter view had become widespread among the educated Croatian elite, particularly during the Austro-Hungarian fin-de-siècle. Vanino’s journal accordingly sought to correct this politically biased interpretation of the Jesuits’ role in Croatian history with articles written by both Jesuit and non-Jesuit contributors.2 The journal would provide the foundation for a source-based, critical history of the Society of Jesus in the Croatian lands and of its relations with the Croats.

  • The Krk Diocese
THE KRK DIOCESE THE ISLES SHALL WAIT FOR HIS TEACHINGS O I R E T S I IN M T I E N IO ORAT FOREWORD The centuries-long presence of Christianity on the islands of the Krk Diocese is deeply rooted in the life and culture of its population, which has been subject to a succession of various social orders during the course of history. Until the year 1828, there were three dioceses within this territory: Krk, Osor and Rab. The presence of a bishop and his relationship with the people had a strong impact upon spiritual formation and identity. The pas- tors of the small dioceses of the Kvarner Islands demonstrated magna- nimity and openness of spirit toward the beautiful and modern, while at the same time listening to the “pulse” of the people, incorporating their language in worship. The beauty of handwritten and illuminated Glagolitic missals, psalters and antiphonals greatly enriched the corpus of liturgical literature traditionally written in Latin. Christian culture, both spiritual and material, is reflected here in the arts of painting, architecture, literature, poetry and music. This is a Church distinguished by its priests and religious, especially the Benedictines and Franciscans, including those with the reputation of saintliness, who have played exceptional historical roles in the raising and fostering of national consciousness, enhancement of the quality of life, education in moral principles, and the creation and safeguarding of the cultural heritage. These values provided a firm foundation for assuring the survival of this nation under changing conditions, not infrequently im- posed by fire and sword.

Oktroiranog ustava i uvođenjem Bachova apsolutizma.
