Eastern Shore Emmaus A Message From Our Community Lay Director

It is March, the 2020 football season seems a long way off. I enjoy foot- ball and all sports as well. During the off season the teams change and regroup, they build their team with new players and/or coaches, strategize new plays. During this time Sandi and I talk about our teams with anticipation that this year

March our team(s) will do better than last year. For sports one thing never Dates to Remember and that is the rules of the game. A Message From Our Spiritual Director

Then he said, “Do not draw near this place; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground." Exodus 3:5

Moses was out is the wilderness tending flocks for his father-in-law, Jethro. He was near a mountain which was called Horeb "waste or desolate." As Moses approached he saw a bush that burned and was not consumed. I am sure that Moses was surprised as he drew near to, "see this great sight", that God would speak. God would instruct Moses to remove his sandals because where he was standing was holy. We often sing a song on our Emmaus Weekends that is drawn from this passage: Holy Ground. Many have drawn the inference that this is representative of COOTB, due to the fact of the many extraordinary things that have taken place there. This would, however, beg the question in light of Moses' experience; What makes the ground ho- ly? Is it because a bush was afire and did not burn up? Could it be because God spoke from the bush that made the ground itself holy? Why was that particular piece of ground holy? I would believe the answer is evident. God was there. That is what made the ground of which Moses stood on holy. God alone makes things, situations, and people holy. God, through His son Jesus Christ, must be present for anything to be holy. For without God being present in our lives and in the endeavors of which we look to accomplish, nothing of eternal value will oc- cur. It will be just "wood, hay and stubble" just like the name Horeb reflects. However, if God steps down in His glory everything changes. Just like us when we received Jesus Christ as the Savior of our souls, we were made holy. Because of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we were born again and regenerated into new creatures. God in that very moment sanctified us "positionally" and he continues to sanctify us as we learn more of Him and His ways and are following Him in obedience. My prayer for these upcoming weekends is that God is there. For if He is there, we can expect great and wonderful things because of His Holy Presence. HMS Pastor Steve, CSD Page 3 The Walk Way

Hello to all my brothers and sisters in Christ! As I write this story about what the Emmaus community and my walk on ES94 has meant to me, I am sure a lot of you can relate to this story. The seed we all hear about was planted in me at a very early stage in my life, by my mom. Those of you who know me and have heard my testimony know about this part of my life. But this is not my testimony so I will move on knowing that all of this is connected with my walk with Jesus and the road to Emmaus! I have always known and loved my Lord & Savior Jesus, but not always have I been a shining example for him. Yet I am so blessed to have had him walk with me my entire life, especially when I was lost. I would not be here today without him. Now moving forward, when my children were born that was a turning point in my life and not realizing it, I was being pulled back in the direction I needed to go to bring me closer to my Jesus. Amazing love how can it be that you my Lord would die for me, but I know I needed to plant that same seed in my boys and I did. Their life is a reflection of my own it seems , but they are doing better in their lives as far as marriage and careers go; however, it is the spiritual life that counts the most and I am grateful for the opportunity to have planted that seed knowing that God would manifest what I could not. As they grew into young men I got more involved in church and the many different sides and positions in the church. I found myself wanting and longing for more of the Word, a closer walk with my Jesus, a change that would enrich my life and to strive to be where Jesus wanted me to be. I am not there as of yet and will always strive to get there, but accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior was a big step in the right direction and I have never looked back. Praise the Lord! I was led to the Full Gospel Church where I hear the word of God preached in a way that excites and moves me onward. As I moved forward in my walk God sent me a wonderful, loving and God fearing woman into my life. Her name is Denise and she is my everything, the love of my life. With her guidance and love my walk in faith and my walk with Jesus has made leaps and bounds in the right direction, always striving to be better. Along with her I have had a brother, brother Pete and my best friend, that had been for years trying to get me to go on the Walk to Em- maus and for years I found one excuse after another. Well, I know what your thinking and, yes, I wish I had walked sooner, but when ES94 came along I felt in my heart the Lord said it was my time. So when Bo asked me before Pete had the chance (they were both together in their work van lol), I told Bo yes I would go. Pete’s jaw hit the floor- it was so funny. It was love no doubt and I was on my way to ES94! I had no clue what I was getting into but the love showed to me by Pete and Bo told me I was in good hands as al- ways! I am not going to get into those three days of my walk but to say this, What a wonderful way to spend three days with Jesus and a whole lot of love. I met so many brothers in Christ, some I already knew and some I did not, but all had the love of Christ in them. What a weekend! When I finally went home to my wife I felt like I was floating on a cloud and was blessed knowing that I had experienced something I had never felt before. I now know part of the reason why I could not talk on Thursday night, which was hard for me because I like to talk. My better half, Denise, was walking in two weeks on ES95 so I could not say a lot, which was hard as well because she grilled me, lol! She wanted to know and she found out on her walk! Well, we must have made the devil some kinda mad because he attacked us in a most vicious way for more than two years. But we knew who was mightier in us than who is in the world and we stood on that rock and our faith and have never looked back, always striving and moving forward. After a bit I was longing for more so I signed up to team. Wow, this is where things really came alive for me. I was so blessed to be a team member, so much more, just an amazing display of the love of Christ and fellowship. I have had the opportunity to team four times and it seems like I just cannot get enough. Page 6 The Walk Way

The blessings are for real in the love of Christ and the fellowship of my brothers in Christ; I am blessed to have the opportunity to play that forward to the pilgrims. It renews my strength and helps me to stay on point, to keep my focus on the cross! What a blessing it has all been to my soul and I thank my Lord and Savior each and every day for the Emmaus community and the opportunities he puts before me daily. I would encourage any and all to experience a walk and to team on a walk; the blessing are so great and I know for sure it will bring you closer to Jesus and fulfill your spiritual need as you continue your walk with Christ. I can say without a doubt in my mind that it has made me a better person and a better example for Jesus in the world I live in! Praise be to God who gets all the glory forever and ever, Amen

Prayer Chain

What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry Everything to God in prayer! Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry Pray Without Ceasing- Everything to God in prayer! 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged— Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful, Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy-laden, Cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge— Take it to the Lord in prayer. Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer! In His arms He’ll take and shield thee, Thou wilt find a solace there.

There’s perhaps never been a better explanation of the great privilege that we have in prayer than the words of this timeless hymn. They serve as constant reminder of our ability to take any situation, circumstance, or problem to the Father. No matter how big or small the need, we can find peace by giving Him the concerns of our hearts.

With these things about prayers in mind, I’d like to invite each of you to join the Emmaus Prayer Team by contacting [email protected] .

Sponsorship Corner

Spring walks are upon us! If you were sponsoring someone I’m sure you have been praying for them. Now is the time to be gathering Agape, reminding them of dates and times, and reassuring the family. Make sure you’re available to attend the special events, and spread the joy!

If you’re not sponsoring someone, find someone who is, and offer to help! Pray for them, attend special events for them, offer to help financially if that’s possible.

Most importantly, let’s all be praying for our teamers and our pilgrims!
