Special City 325Th Anniversary Float Highlights Thanksgiving Parade Thanksgiving Highlights Float Anniversary 325Th City Special
Pancakes and a Parade: The Tradition Continues The History of the Jews in 9 New Rochelle Chronicled 15 com December 2013 -- Volume 9 -- Issue 12 Complimentary Special City 325th Anniversary Float Highlights Thanksgiving Parade By Stephen E. Lipken A special float, commemorating the 325th An- niversary of the City of New Rochelle highlighted the November 23 Valenti-New Rochelle Thanksgiving Parade. The Grand Marshal was Domenic Procopio, Chairman of New Rochelle’s Civil Service Commission But that was only a small part of the floats, bands, antique vehicles and new to the parade, Peruvian Dancers, demonstrating the rich cultural heritage of New Rochelle. Iona College fielded a huge “Mayflow- er” display, running on bulldozer treads and sounding a horn reminiscent of a diesel locomotive whistle, as well as a giant inflatable “Killian the Gael” mascot on a float incorporating all Iona athletic teams plus the college’s renowned Bagpipe Band. Monroe College presented an elaborate float with the Statue of Liberty and two bright blue “Mustang” mascots. Chamber of Commerce featured a giant turkey; “Boss Tone” and “Sass Transit” (roller derby names) from Suburbia Roller Derby sported helmets with Chanukah dreidels and royal blue menorah. Some marchers promoted social awareness and responsibility, such as New Rochelle Humane Society, Salvation Army, American Red Cross and drum corps from Habitat for Humanity. Clowns joined the festivities, as well as midget fire truck, “Little Squirt, Engine Company 273.” Before the parade, a Pancake Breakfast was served in New Rochelle High School cafeteria. Seen outside the cafeteria was New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence, (www.nredfund.org) supporting projects that school budget cannot fund, from kindergarten to 12th grade. -

Abstract When Netflix launched in April 1998, Internet video was in its infancy. Eighteen years later, Netflix has developed into the first truly global Internet TV network. Many books have been written about the five broadcast networks – NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and the CW – and many about the major cable networks – HBO, CNN, MTV, Nickelodeon, just to name a few – and this is the fitting time to undertake a detailed analysis of how Netflix, as the preeminent Internet TV networks, has come to be. This book, then, combines historical, industrial, and textual analysis to investigate, contextualize, and historicize Netflix's development as an Internet TV network. The book is split into four chapters. The first explores the ways in which Netflix's development during its early years a DVD-by-mail company – 1998-2007, a period I am calling "Netflix as Rental Company" – lay the foundations for the company's future iterations and successes. During this period, Netflix adapted DVD distribution to the Internet, revolutionizing the way viewers receive, watch, and choose content, and built a brand reputation on consumer-centric innovation. -

Running Head: PERCEPTIONS of and ATTITUDES TOWARDS ASEXUALITY 1
Running head: PERCEPTIONS OF AND ATTITUDES TOWARDS ASEXUALITY 1 Viewer Perceptions of and Attitudes Towards Asexuality in Response to Entertainment Media Representation Charlotte I. White Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences (BMS), Positive Psychology and Technology (PPT), University of Twente Supervisor: Drs. Nils Keesmekers and Dr. Pelin Gül PERCEPTIONS OF AND ATTITUDES TOWARDS ASEXUALITY 2 Abstract With the popularity of LGBTQIA+ representation in media rising, it is important to understand the relation to viewers’ attitudes, especially for underrepresented sexual minorities such as asexuality. A mixed method approach was employed, with 108 participants split into two conditions completing the Attitudes Towards Asexuals (ATA) Scale before and after viewing a clip from entertainment media. Open questions were also asked: how the clip made them feel, their opinion of the character, and their definition of asexuality. Thematic content analysis, and an analysis of the tone and emotions in the open responses supplemented the quantitative data. The results indicate significant differences between the attitudes of LGBT compared to non-LGBT respondents, religious groups, and those with more compared to less familiarity with asexuality. The qualitative findings underline the importance of nuanced characters with whom diverse viewers can empathise. Overall, the insight from this research can inform and guide the development of asexual characters in entertainment media so that viewer’s attitudes towards asexuality are positive. Complementary to this, future research should seek to clarify which impact different variations of an asexual representation have on viewers’ attitudes, and whether the influence on a range of demographic groups is dependent on specific features. And I am ill wrapped. A am nearly a dolt, so long have I napped. My legs they fold, my fingers are chapped. But we are simple shepherds that walk on the moor, In truth we have been kicked out the door! No wonder as it stands, if we be poor, For the land we used to have use of lies as fallow as the floor, As you know. We are so lamed, Overtaxed and rammed, And like a pet tamed By those gentlemen. Thus they rob us of our rest, our Lady them harry! These rich men are our pest, they make the plough tarry. What they say is for the best, we found it contrary. Thus are countrymen oppressed, to the point of misery. (SECOND SHEPHERD enters) 2ND SHEPHERD Benedicite dominus! What may this mean? The world faring thus, how oft have we seen? Lord, this weather's to spite us, the wind is so keen And frost so hideous, it makes my eyes stream, No lie. Now in dry, now in wet, Now in snow, now in sleet, When my shoes freeze to my feet It's not at all easy. -
