A CLUSTER OF PRECIOUS MEMORIES A bud the Gardener gave us, A cluster of precious memories A pure and lovely child. Sprayed with a million tears He gave it to our keeping Wishing God had spared you If only for a few more years. To cherish undefiled; You left a special memory And just as it was opening And a sorrow too great to hold, To the glory of the day, To us who loved and lost you Down came the Heavenly Father Your memory will never grow old. Thanks for the years we had, And took our bud away. Thanks for the memories we shared. We only prayed that when you left us That you knew how much we cared. 1 2 AFTERGLOW A Heart of Gold I’d like the memory of me A heart of gold stopped beating to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow Working hands at rest of smiles when life is done. God broke our hearts to prove to us I’d like to leave an echo He only takes the best whispering softly down the ways, Leaves and flowers may wither Of happy times and laughing times The golden sun may set and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve But the hearts that loved you dearly to dry before too long, Are the ones that won’t forget. And cherish those very special memories to which I belong. 4 3 ALL IS WELL A LIFE – WELL LIVED Death is nothing at all, I have only slipped away into the next room.

  • How Asexuality Is Represented in Popular Culture
WHEN THE INVISIBLE BECOME VISIBLE: HOW ASEXUALITY IS REPRESENTED IN POPULAR CULTURE A Thesis submitted to the faculty of s ' San Francisco State University In partial fulfillment of the requirements for H the Degree rfk? Master of Arts In Human Sexuality Studies by Darren Jacob Tokheim San Francisco, California May 2018 Copyright by Darren Jacob Tokheim 2018 WHEN THE INVISIBLE BECOME VISIBLE: HOW ASEXUALITY IS REPRESENTED IN POPULAR CULTURE Darren Jacob Tokheim San Francisco, California 2018 Asexuality is largely misunderstood in mainstream society. Part of this misunderstanding is due to how asexuality has been portrayed in popular culture. This thesis is a content analysis of representations of asexual characters in popular culture, including television, film, comics, and podcasts, and how this representation has changed over time. Specifically, this work finds that early depictions of asexual characters, from the mid- 2000’s, were subjected to common negative stereotypes surrounding asexuality, and that more recent depictions, from the mid-2010’s, have treated asexuality as a valid sexual orientation worthy of attention. However, as asexuality has become more accepted, the representations of asexuality remain few and far between. I certify that the Abstract is a correct representation of the content of this thesis. 6 |2 s | | % Y Chair, Thesis Committee Date CERTIFICATION OF APPROVAL I certify that I have read When the Invisible Become Visible: How Asexuality is Represented in Popular Culture by Darren Jacob Tokheim, and that in my opinion this work meets the criteria for approving a thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree Master of Arts in Human Sexuality Studies at San Francisco State University.

Pancakes and a Parade: The Tradition Continues The History of the Jews in 9 New Rochelle Chronicled 15 com December 2013 -- Volume 9 -- Issue 12 Complimentary Special City 325th Anniversary Float Highlights Thanksgiving Parade By Stephen E. Lipken A special float, commemorating the 325th An- niversary of the City of New Rochelle highlighted the November 23 Valenti-New Rochelle Thanksgiving Parade. The Grand Marshal was Domenic Procopio, Chairman of New Rochelle’s Civil Service Commission But that was only a small part of the floats, bands, antique vehicles and new to the parade, Peruvian Dancers, demonstrating the rich cultural heritage of New Rochelle. Iona College fielded a huge “Mayflow- er” display, running on bulldozer treads and sounding a horn reminiscent of a diesel locomotive whistle, as well as a giant inflatable “Killian the Gael” mascot on a float incorporating all Iona athletic teams plus the college’s renowned Bagpipe Band. Monroe College presented an elaborate float with the Statue of Liberty and two bright blue “Mustang” mascots. Chamber of Commerce featured a giant turkey; “Boss Tone” and “Sass Transit” (roller derby names) from Suburbia Roller Derby sported helmets with Chanukah dreidels and royal blue menorah. Some marchers promoted social awareness and responsibility, such as New Rochelle Humane Society, Salvation Army, American Red Cross and drum corps from Habitat for Humanity. Clowns joined the festivities, as well as midget fire truck, “Little Squirt, Engine Company 273.” Before the parade, a Pancake Breakfast was served in New Rochelle High School cafeteria. Seen outside the cafeteria was New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence, (www.nredfund.org) supporting projects that school budget cannot fund, from kindergarten to 12th grade.

  • Texas Public Safety Threat Overview 2017 (PDF)
UNCLASSIFIED LAW ENFORCEMENT SEN Texas Public Safety Threat Overview A State Intelligence Estimate Produced by the Texas Department of Public Safety In collaboration with other law enforcement and homeland security agencies January 2017 1 UNCLASSIFIED UNCLASSIFIED Executive Summary (U) Texas faces the full spectrum of threats, and the state’s vast size, geography, and large population present unique challenges to public safety and homeland security. Texas employs a systematic approach to detect, assess, and prioritize public safety threats within seven categories: terrorism, crime, motor vehicle crashes, natural disasters, public health threats, industrial accidents, and cyber threats. (U) Due to the recent actions of lone offenders or small groups affiliated with or inspired by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and other foreign terrorist organizations, we assess that the current terrorism threat to Texas is elevated. We recognize that ISIS has had considerable success in inspiring and inciting lone offenders to attack targets in the United States and other Western countries using simple yet effective tactics that are difficult to detect and disrupt. We expect this heightened threat to persist over at least the next year, due in part to the relatively high number of recent terrorism-related arrests and thwarted plots inside the US, and the prevalence and effectiveness of ISIS’s online recruitment and incitement messaging, as the organization is slowly defeated on the battlefield. We are especially concerned about the potential for terrorist infiltration across the US-Mexico border, particularly as foreign terrorist fighters depart Syria and Iraq and enter global migration flows. We are concerned about the challenges associated with the security vetting of Syrian war refugees or asylum seekers who are resettled in Texas – namely, that derogatory security information about individuals is inaccessible or nonexistent.

  • The Madre Della Consolazione Icon in the British Museum: Post-Byzantine Painting, Painters and Society on Crete*
JAHRBUCH DER ÖSTERREICHISCHEN BYZANTINISTIK, 53. Band/2003, 239–255 © 2003 by Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften, Wien ANGELIKI LYMBEROPOULOU / BIRMINGHAM THE MADRE DELLA CONSOLAZIONE ICON IN THE BRITISH MUSEUM: POST-BYZANTINE PAINTING, PAINTERS AND SOCIETY ON CRETE* With two plates A small portable icon (350 × 270 mm), now in the British Museum, Department of Medieval and Later Antiquities (reg. No. 1994, 1–2, 6), depicts the Virgin and Child (fig. 1). It is painted on a single panel of pine wood, apparently without fabric between the ground and wood support. The icon was bequeathed by Guy Holford Dixon JP, who bought it from the Temple Gallery. A label on the back, attached when the icon was in the possession of the Temple Gallery, describes it as being Russian of the six- teenth century. In a preliminary Museum catalogue, however, the origin was given as Italy or Crete and the date as seventeenth century.1 The truth about the origin and the dating of the icon, as we shall see, lies in the mid- dle: I will argue that it is from Crete and of the sixteenth century. The Virgin is depicted half-length, holding the Christ-Child in her right arm while touching His left leg gently with her left hand. Her head is tilted towards the Child, although she does not look at Him. She wears a green garment and a purple maphorion on top, which bears pseudo-kufic decoration on the edges; decorative motives are also visible on the gar- ment’s collar and left sleeve. The maphorion is held together in front of the Virgin’s chest with a golden brooch, which apparently used to have decora- tion, now lost.
