Completed in 1896, the Colorado State Capitol Building contributes much to the beauty and stateliness of Denver's Civic Center. Its massive dome is covered with gold leaf and may be seen for miles. Denver Civic Center is famous the world over. It is adjacent to the main business district, at the foot of Capitol Hill and the State Capitol Building. Here are the Public Library, the Greek Theatre, Voorhies Memorial and many interesting statues. Across the Civic Center from the Capitol is the City and County Building, which cost approximately five million dol- lars. In it is an Art Museum, featuring among many other exhibits, one of the finest collections of Indian Art in the country. A United States Mint, one of the three coinage mints, is across the street to the west. Denver is also the seat of many colleges and universities for both men and women, offering degrees in practically every field and profession. The Denver Symphony Orchestra is known as one of the finest in the country, and Denver's encouragement and patronage of Opera and the Theatre place it among the leading cultural cen- ters of the nation.
