Why We're Drinking It

I got a whiff of a great opportunity with the iconic Ornellaia Super Tuscan in limited magnum format for the ?current?? ?2012 release. How about the best price in America for this Tuscan collectable? (magnums)? We edge out the competition with your special Invino Price! This is a way that can easily rest for a decade in the cellar.

The resounding success of this Cabernet-based Super Tuscan since its first release in 1985 literally put the SuperTuscan - and the region - on the international collectible map. Since then, Ornellaia's track record is stunning - the #1 wine on Wine Spectator's Top 100 list of 2001, it was also one of the Top 10 wines of the Wine Spectator's Top 100 on two other occasions - in 2000 and 2007.

James Suckling, who has been covering the rise of Ornellaia more closely than any other American wine critic, describes why Ornellaia is his #3 Most Collectible :

"I love the power and finesse of the Ornellaia. It's a wine that remains classic in style and structure, but with a sexy streak to it. The wine ages wonderfully as well. That's why it is my No. 3 Most Collectible Tuscan Wine."

This is one of those rare wines that catches every critic's attention. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate consistently rates Ornellaia 95 Points or higher.

Tasting Notes

VARIETAL 's Notes Bordeaux Blend The 2012 growing season was characterised by an abundance of sunny, dry weather; some rain did fall as well, but it occurred in just the right periods, Tuscany, Italy before the , and helped the vines to cope with the hot, dry conditions. ALCOHOL The result was an even, consistent ripening process that in the end yielded 14.00 generous, full-volumed wines that are remarkably appealing and seductive, SIZE with an overall character that we like to define with the word Incanto 1.5L (Magnum) (‘Enchantment'). Ornellaia 2012 appears a deep ruby, and a remarkably BLEND beguiling bouquet boasts rich fruit and spices notes. The palate shows well Bordeaux Blend rounded, full, and generous, with glossy tannins and a complete absence of any roughness. The 2012 lacks none of theproverbial concentration that distinguishes Ornellaia's great , but this adroitly masks that richness behindan expansive, magisterial structure, then concludes with a near-endless finish.

Reviews

A tight and silky red with compacted fruit and tannin texture featuring blackcurrant, mushroom and bark undertones. Full body, firm tannins and a minerally finish. Excellent structure and mouthfeel. A cooler style of Ornellaia, bringing it back to the classicism of this celebrated region. Bordeaux blend. Better in 2018."- James Sucklng, 97 Points
