Carta Dei Vini CARTA DEI VINI CORKAGE FEE POLICY Café Milano allows corkage of two bottles (750ml) or one magnum (1500ml) maximum per table, from Sunday to Thursday of any wine not already represented on our wine list as a service fee of $50 per bottle. 1 WINES BY THE GLASS SOMMELIER LUXURY SUGGESTION WHITE LUXURY GLASS 5 OZ Jermann, Vintage Tunina 2014 30/150 Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Malvasisa, Picolit- Friuli- Italy Jermann Vintage Tunina has a brilliant straw-yellow color with golden highlights. Its aroma is intense, full, with enormous elegance and persistence, and with hints of honey and wild flowers. Its taste is dry, velvety, and very well-orchestrated, with an exceptional persistence due to its particularly full body. Far Niente 2017 30/150 Chardonnay-Napa Valley, CA The 2017 Far Niente Chardonnay offers tropical aromas of citrus and melon layered with honeysuckle, perfume and toasted oak. A juicy entry transitions to a vibrant, yet oily, palate, which builds to a clean and refreshing finish. This wine is well integrated and beautifully concentrated, with lush citrus flavors and hints of minerality. Poggio alle Gazze,Tenuta dell’Ornellaia 2016 36/180 Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Vermentino- Toscana, Italy Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia 2016 is the result of an exceptional year. On the palate it is fleshy and juicy with a vibrant, crystalline fruitiness which perfectly reflects the sunny, but not excessively hot year. The long lingering fruity finish leaves the palate clean and fresh. 2 RED LUXURY GLASS 5 OZ Giodo, Carlo Ferrini 2014 35/150 Sangiovese-Toscana, Italy Lush cherry and blackberry fruit, leather, spice and tannins that provide zest and tone to this sensational Tuscan red. Amarone Classico, Costasera, Masi 2013 35/150 Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara-Valpolicella, Italy Powerful, complex aromas of dried plums, with 'balsamic' (anise, fennel, mint) traces. Quite dry (not sweet), soft and with bright acidity, with baked cherry, chocolate and cinnamon flavors and structured, noble tannins. Brunello di Montalcino, Madonna Nera 2013 38/160 Sangiovese Grosso-Montalcino, Italy A gorgeous, fruit-driven wine with superb depth in its plums, dark cherries, herbs and sweet toasted oak. It offers terrific balance in its fruit, structure and acidity. Nerello Mascalese, Alberelli di Giodo 2016 40/180 Nerello Masacalese -Sicilia, Italy This is the first vintage of famed Italian wine consultant Carlo Ferrini's own Etna wine, and it is a lovely debut. It has a charming nose of red cherrries, vanilla, spice and white chocolate. A very Burgundian-syle Nerello Mascalese with great purity and precision. Supremely elegant and seductive. Silver Oak, Alexander Valley 2014 45/220 Cabernet Sauvignon-Napa Valley, California Fruit, with beams of supporting acidity and tannin that give the wine its sense of proportion. Lavender, sage, menthol, licorice and plums are all given an extra kick of brightness on the finish. 3 WINE BY THE GLASS SPARKLING Prosecco Millesimato, Villa Marcello 2016 17 Glera-Veneto, Italy Il • A Visit to Bolgheri and the Wonderful Wines of Ornellaia and Sassicaia
Vinum Fine Wine List • July-August 2014 A Visit to Bolgheri and the Wonderful WinesBy of Paul LiversedgeOrnellaia MW and Sassicaia Bolgheri is currently one of the most exciting wine producing areas of Italy - and indeed the world. The region first came to the public’s attention as recently as 1968 with the launch vintage of Nicolas Incisa della Rocchetta’s Sassicaia. However, it was only when Decanter magazine voted Sassicaia 1978 their top wine in a blind tasting of 38 different Cabernet producers across the world, and then Robert Parker awarded Sassicaia 1985 100 points, that the region’s huge quality potential began to be properly appreciated. Bolgheri is a small and beautiful DOC in the South West of Tuscany covering 1220 hectares of vines, most of which grow on hillsides about 5 kms inland from the Mediterranean Sea. The scenery and views over the Mediterranean from these hillside vineyards is literally breathtaking, and the climate in this small area has to be one of the most perfect for grape growing in all Europe. It is for this reason that Bolgheri is often referred to as the “California of Europe.” The area is a little sunnier and warmer than the rest of Tuscany - Brunello di Montalcino and the Chianti region – but with a constant refreshing breeze which cools the vines on the hillsides. The best wines from Bolgheri are red and are made principally from the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Petit Verdot grapes; this is NOT top Sangiovese country. Because of the long sunshine hours the red grapes have no problems in ripening to perfection each year and produce wines with silky smooth, perfectly ripe tannins and very concentrated fruit flavours.

  • Le Serre Nuove Dell'ornellaia 2014
LE SERRE NUOVE DELL’ORNELLAIA 2014 - BOLGHERI DOC ROSSO Coming primarily from the Estate’s younger vineyards and made with the same passion and attention to detail as Ornellaia, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is a true “second vin”. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia combines generosity and depth of flavour with an engaging and vibrant personality. WINEMAKER’S TASTING NOTES 50% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot “A late vintage with a long period of ripening, 2014 presented us with wines that generate a great amount of pleasure. Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2014 has a ruby colour of medium intensity. On the nose it develops fresh crisp fruit aromas underpinned by fine notes of spice. The palate is of medium weight with notes of red berry fruit. The tannins are fine, silky and particularly polished. Soft and enveloping yet with a clean lively finish.” Axel Heinz – June 2016 THE 2014 GROWING SEASON The 2014 vintage will go down in history as one of the most unusual in the memory of Ornellaia. A warm and rainy winter was followed by a mild and dry spring which allowed for a normal vegetative growth with timely and regular blooms. After a July that was fairly average but a cold and rainy August created very difficult conditions for the ripening of the grapes; it also greatly increasing the threat of disease. Meticulous stripping in the vineyard and treatments during the entire month of August enabled us to maintain the good health of our vines, allowing them to develop free of disease during September and October.

  • Ornellaia 2016 Tech Sheet
Ornellaia 2016 Bolgheri DOC Superiore ESTATE Ornellaia has established itself among the iconic wine estates in Italy (and beyond). The estate is dedicated to producing charming and opulent wines, full of Mediterranean character and finesse, reflecting the estate’s unique terroir in Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast. The combination of Bolgheri’s unique soils and growing conditions, and what can only be characterized as a total obsession with excellence, result in the world-class wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc that so many wine lovers across the world have come to cherish. WINE The desire to nurture the Estate’s exceptional qualities has shaped Ornellaia’s philosophy since the beginning. Ornellaia is the estate’s “Grand Vin”, with exceptional balance, power, elegance, and great aging potential. It faithfully reflects, in every vintage, its nature, site, and distinctive Mediterranean personality. VINEYARD Soils: Three major soil types: marine (sedimentary deposit from the sea), alluvial (marly, sandy clays with mineral veins), and volcanic (schist, gravel and porous soils.) Vineyards are planted at high density, from 5,000-8,700 hl/ha, and feature several training systems – spur-pruned cordon, single Guyot, and head-pruned vines. Grape Varieties: 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot. WINEMAKING Fermentation: Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at temperatures between 26-30°C for two weeks, followed by 10-15 days of maceration on the skins. The malolactic fermentation takes place mainly in oak barrels, 70% new and 30% once-used. Aging: The wine then remains in barriques, in Ornellaia’s temperature- controlled cellars, for about 18 months.

  • Variazioni in Rosso Dell'ornellaia 2016
VARIAZIONI IN ROSSO DELL’ORNELLAIA 2016 - TOSCANA IGT ROSSO In every vintage one of the Estate’s varietals will express something quite distinctive and the Winemaker highlights this difference in the blend of Variazioni in Rosso dell’Ornellaia. Only visitors to the Estate have the unique opportunity to taste and experience these subtle variations. WINEMAKER’S TASTING NOTES 72% Merlot, 13 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc “In a typical Bolgheri vintage of exceptional quality, in which every grape gave its best, the Merlot is presented magnificently in Variazioni in Rosso dell'Ornellaia 2016. The wine has a deep ruby red colour and the nose features aromas of ripe red fruits and delicate vanilla notes. Enveloping and smooth on the palate, it is characterised by vibrant acidity and elegant aromatic finesse.” Olga Fusari – Winemaker THE 2016 GROWING SEASON As what seems to be becoming increasingly the norm, the winter of 2016 was characterized by abnormally warm weather with heavy rainfall in February. Budbreak took place on time in the last week of March. The abundance of water in the soil and the warm weather in April led to quick and normal vegetative vine growth. Towards May temperatures returned to normal, slowing the growth down slightly, bringing about the flowering which took place in the last week of May with dry sunny weather, perfect for a good fruit-set. The summer was average with very little rain favouring a notable water stress towards the end of the ripening stage. The usual August holiday period storms were also absent, maintaining a state of hydric stress through the first part of the harvest, but luckily with temperatures that significantly cooled off at night, allowing the vines to recover from the daytime temperatures.
