United States v. Microsoft Amicus Contributors in Microsoft’s Case Challenging a U.S. Search Warrant for Emails Overseas

Twenty-three amicus briefs supporting Microsoft’s case were filed with the Supreme Court by 288 signatories including Members of Congress, European lawmakers, leading technology companies, media organizations, legal scholars, computer scientists, trade associations and advocacy groups that collectively represent millions of members across 37 countries.

Additionally, in December 2017, seven entities filed neutral amicus briefs in Microsoft’s lawsuit that highlight the substantial international interest in this case and the importance of new solutions. Those briefs were filed by the Republic of Ireland, the European Commission on behalf of the European Union, the United Kingdom, the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on the Right to Privacy, former law enforcement, national security and intelligence officials, and E-discovery practitioners.
