(a): Pantry car facility is provided on selected Super fast/Mail/Express trains which run o n popular routes where adequate and satisfactory catering services through static units are not possible. (b): No, Sir. (c) and (d): There are about 103 long distance Super- fast/Mail Express trains on Indian Railways which presently do not have pantry car attached although the journey time is of more than 24 hours each way (a list is enclosed as Appendix). The reasons for non- provision of pantry car facilities in these trains include sufficient stoppages at stations where satisfactory catering services from static catering units are available enroute and operational constraints like non-availability of rolling stock, room on train etc.

Jaffer Sharief Introducing the Railway Budget, for 1995-96, on 14th March 1995 Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to present the Revised Estimates for 1994-95 and Budget Estimates for 1995-96 for the Indian Railways. Introduction 2.1 Before I start the customary review of the performance during the current year to set the background for the projections of the next year, I wish to place before this august House an overview of the performance of the Railways from the time this Government assumed charge in 1991. Such a review has to be in the context of the ongoing economic reforms since, demand for rail transport being a derived one, changes in the economic situation have considerable impact on the performance of the Railways. Further, as a crucial infrastructure, Railways have to play a very important role in the economic development of the country. 2.2 Under the inspired leadership of the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao, the economic reforms and the liberalisation process set in motion by the Government have given a tremendous fillip to economic growth. It is being universally acclaimed that our country is among the most successful in the world in implementing economic and structural reforms without falling into any pitfalls associated with such transformation from a regulated to a market-friendly economy. As a result of these reforms, the economy is now poised for a breakthrough. Foreign Exchange reserves are at an all-time high, agricultural production is expected to scale new heights and industrial growth is expected to be close to eight per cent in the current year.

    Indian Railways Budget Speech 1987-88 Speech of Shri Madhavrao Scindia Introducing the Railway Budget for 1987-88, on 25 th February 1987 Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to present the Revised Estimates for the year 1986-87 and the Budget Estimates for the year 1987-88 for the Indian Railways. Introduction 2. I am happy to inform the House that the performance of the Indian Railways both in 1985- 86, and in the nine months so far of the current year, has been one of continued improvement. The zest and enthusiasm evoked in1985 continues to inspire Railwaymen through the length and breadth of our country. I would like to record my appreciation for the way they have responded to the challenges of their tasks, establishing new records and crossing new milestones. There has been a tremendous increase in the productivity of both man and machine. In fact, so great was the improvement in transport efficiency that it is a matter of pride for me to state that the Indian Railways are amongst the leaders in the world in freight capacity utilisation leaving behind almost all railways even of the developed world. The Net Tonne Kilometres per Wagon per Day (B.G.), which is the most comprehensive efficiency indicator for railway freight operations, soared to 1296 in 1985-86 from 1150 in 1984-85, an improvement of as much as 12.7% in one single year. It was because of this, that in spite of no increase in the net wagon fleet, we managed to move as much as 21.6 million tonnes more as compared to the previous year, surpassing our target by 9.4 million tonnes and recording a total transport output of 206 billion net tonne kilometres, thereby, crossing for the first time, the landmark figure of 200 billion.

    Booking Train Ticket through internet Website: irctc.co.in Booking Guidelines: 1. The input for the proof of identity is not required now at the time of booking. 2. One of the passengers in an e-ticket should carry proof of identification during the train journey. 3. Voter ID card/ Passport/PAN Card/Driving License/Photo Identity Card Issued by Central/State Government are the valid proof of identity cards to be shown in original during train journey. 4. The input for the proof of identity in case of cancellation/partial cancellation is also not required now. 5. The passenger should also carry the Electronic Reservation Slip (ERS) during the train journey failing which a penalty of Rs. 50/- will be charged by the TTE/Conductor Guard. 6. Time table of several trains are being updated from July 2008, Please check exact train starting time from boarding station before embarking on your journey. 7. For normal I-Ticket, booking is permitted at least two clear calendar days in advance of date of journey. 8. For e-Ticket, booking can be done upto chart Preparation approximately 4 to 6 hours before departure of train. For morning trains with departure time upto 12.00 hrs charts are prepared on the previous night. 9. Opening day booking (90th day in advance, excluding the date of journey) will be available only after 8 AM, along with the counters.
