SOLFEGE MATCHING GAME

Kids line up at the whiteboard. Teacher places an Hand Sign on the whiteboard and asks a student to place the correct syllable under it. Activity continues until all have a turn.

Play in reverse—this time the teacher places Syllables on the board and kids add correct hand signs.

MELODIC PATTERNS Using multiple sets of Hand Signs and Syllables, show melodic patterns horizontally on the whiteboard for the class to sing.

MYSTERY PATTERNS Play or sing melodic patterns, and have kids recreate the patterns on the whiteboard with Hand Signs and/or Syllables. Wipe-off Charts for MINIs Students can also do ear training activities with MINI Solfege and individual laminated charts. SOLFEGE TWISTER MATCH Teacher scatters Hand Signs and Syllables on the floor. After the teacher calls out a syllable, the student has to put one foot on the correct syllable then touch the corresponding hand sign with one hand.

EARTRAINING TWISTER

Teacher plays or sings a 2, 3, or 4-note pattern. Using hands and/or feet, kids have to touch all the notes of the pattern in the proper order.

CHROMATIC SCALE LADDER 1. Place the solfege syllables vertically in a ladder on the whiteboard. 2. Add the raised altered notes (sharps) for the syllables on the left, and lowered altered notes (flats) on the right. 3. Sing the ascending with sharps (raised altered tones), then sing the descending chromatic scale with flats (lowered altered notes). Show the chromatic scale from C to C on a floor keyboard or giant keyboard wall chart to see how the new scale has both black and white notes. Use the red sharps for the ascending scale, then replace with blue flats for the descending scale.
