The Impact of Branded Events on the Success of a Tourist Destination
KNOWLEDGE – International Journal Vol. 23.1 Budva, Montenegro, May, 2018 THE IMPACT OF BRANDED EVENTS ON THE SUCCESS OF A TOURIST DESTINATION Marina Jovićević Simin College of professional studies in Management and Business Communication, Sremski Karlovci, Serbia, [email protected] Slobodan Živkucin College of professional studies in Management and Business Communication, Sremski Karlovci, Serbia, [email protected] Abstract: Branded events, as a form of contemporary tourism, related to culture (music festivals, concerts, exhibitions, etc.), sports (regattas, various competitions, etc.) and tradition (carnival, gastronomy, folklore, etc.) become more significant in contemporary tourism in many regions as well as in the tourist industry of Serbia. The economic development of the country, the region, the destination, is often the reason for organizing new events that directly stimulate economic development, improve the infrastructure, stimulate the development of service activities, job creation, cash inflows, etc. Analyzes of this specific type of tourism show that modern approach to planning, organizing and managing can improve the event, thereby improving the economic effects and influencing the better positioning of the event, but also the destinations in the tourism market itself. So, the brand is a set of all common performances, perceptions, associations that people associate with a particular nation, country, place, product, event, etc. Everything is brand, every activity, every event, the whole country is a brand. This stems from the affinity of modern tourists who want to visit new destinations and get to know new culture through events, entertain and gain new experiences. Apart from the economic ones, the motives of promoting culture are also important because events are considered a significant part of the new strategies for the development of culture and its presentation. -
Ivo Andric' Revisited
UC Berkeley GAIA Research Series Title Ivo Andric Revisited: The Bridge Still Stands Permalink https://escholarship.org/uc/item/8c21m142 Journal Research Series, uciaspubs/research/92 Author Vucinich, Wayne S. Publication Date 1995 Peer reviewed eScholarship.org Powered by the California Digital Library University of California Ivo Andric Revisited: The Bridge Still Stands Edited by Wayne S. Vucinich Description: Ivo Andric won the 1961 Nobel Prize for Literature for an extraordinary body of fiction and poetry rooted in the politics and cultural history of the Balkans. Andric drew on his formal studies, political activism, diplomatic career, and extended residence in Bosnia, Croatia, and Serbia to explore the human links that have united the region, to argue that conflict is not inevitable, and to lay the basis for a unified Yugoslavia. Today, Andric is claimed by all Yugoslavs as their greatest literary figure, but tragically missing the point of his work, often criticized by each group for not championing its own particular cause. This volume explores many facets of Andric: the artist immersed in both the written and oral South Slavic literary traditions developing his own unique narrative style; the humanist examining the relationships of victimization, grief, shame, and art; the anthropologist analyzing the role of women and the dynamics of gender relations; and the historian peeling through the layers of local traditions and historical experience.
