Does your business produce food or yard ? As of Jan 1, 2020, businesses that generate 2 cubic yards or more of trash per week must arrange for organic waste recycling services. These businesses, which include many schools, restaurants, and grocery stores, are required to separate their organic waste for recycling. Organic waste includes all food waste, landscaping and pruning waste, nonhazardous wood waste, and food-soiled paper waste that is mixed with food. Why Organics? Organic waste that decomposes in without oxygen generates methane, a potent gas. Diverting organics towards composting and recycling will greatly reduce methane production. Mandatory recycling of organic waste is the next step toward achieving California's (GHG) emissions goals and can turn trash into renewable energy and fuel. Where do I sign up? You can sign up for organic waste recycling services by contacting GreenWaste Recovery at (831) 768-9505. Questions? Please call Scotts Valley's Wastewater / Recycling Department at (831) 431-5854.
