Two Nobel Winners with Ph.D. Students at Center for Rationality
Jerusalem, October 31, 2005 – Two Nobel Prize winners from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Prof. Robert J. Aumann and Prof. Daniel Kahneman, met this week with 20 students who are participating in a new Ph.D. program of studies at the university’s Center for the Study of Rationality. Both Prof. Aumann, winner of the Nobel Prize in economics for 2005, and Prof. Kahneman, who won the same prize in 2002, are members of the center.
The Nobel laureates praised the new doctoral studies program at the center, which brings together outstanding students from a variety of disciplines which reflect the expertise found among the senior researchers at the center. These disciplines include computer science, mathematics, statistics, education, psychology, law, economics, life sciences, education, philosophy, business administration and public policy.
The director of the center, Prof. Edna Ullmann-Margalit, pointed out that research at the center is not limited to one of its main areas of emphasis, game theory (Prof. Aumann’s specialty), but is involved in many areas of study involving elements of decision-making and rationality in nature and society.
