Si banorë të një krahine të pasur, që shtrihej nga Danubi deri në kufijtë veriorë të Maqedonisë, dardanët përbënin një nga fiset më të rëndësishme ilire. Trojet dardane kanë qenë gjithmonë lakmi e fqinjëve nga pasuritë e shumta të tokës e nëntokës, nga pozicioni gjeografik etj., duke i bërë ndër shekuj udhëkryq karvanësh dhe ushtrish. Autorë të antikitetit i paraqesin dardanët luftëtarë të zot që mbronin pareshtur tokën e vet. Ashtu si ardianët për det, kështu dardanët i përfaqësuan ilirët për tokë, si fuqi e madhe në zemër të Ballkanit. Të ndarë në shumë fise, ata u bashkuan në një shtet dhe mbret të vetëm, duke u bërë forcë e rëndësishme në një periudhë të caktuar të historisë. Nën sundimin e Romës, dardanët nuk u romanizuan, duke ruajtur individualitetin dhe etnosin e tyre, ndonëse ushtarakisht dhe ekonomikisht u detyruan të nënshtrohen. Ekzistenca dhe veprimet e dardanëve në po ato troje që gëzojnë edhe sot, ashtu si ilirët në përgjithësi, kanë bërë studiuesit të arrijnë në përfundimin se të parët e popullit shqiptar kanë zënë vend në viset e sotme, të paktën, që në kohë të grekëve e romakëve. Në fillim të përshkrimit të luftërave të romakëve me ilirët, Apiani, mbështetur në një gojëdhënë që si duket qarkullonte në kohën kur ai jetoi ose në shkrime të tjera më të hershme që i përdori si burim të punës së vet, lidhur me prejardhjen dhe emrin e ilirëve, ku përfshinë edhe dardanët, nga pikëpamja etnike (pohim që e gjejmë edhe te Straboni), na paraqet këtë dëshmi: “Romakët pohojnë se Iliria u quajt nga Iliri, djali i Polifemit. Për këtë, thonë se nga Ciklopi Polifem dhe gruaja e tij Galatea, lindën tre djem: Kelti, Iliri dhe Gali. Këta, duke u nisur nga Sicilia, u bënë zotër të popujve, që më pas i mbiemëruan: keltë, ilirë dhe galë. Këto, mes shumë gjërave të tjera që shkruajnë rreth kësaj pune, unë i kam 10 Nermin BASHA zgjedhur për më të mirat dhe për më të vërtetat. Thonë pastaj që Iliri pati fëmijë meshkuj: Akilin, Autarin, Dardanin, Medin, Taulantin dhe Perrebin. Dhe vajza: Partën, Daortën, Deserën dhe të tjera. Nga këta rrodhën pastaj Taulantët, Perrebejtë, Akilejtë, Autariatët, Dardanët, Parthenët, Dasaretët, Parthenët, Dasaretët dhe Darsët”.1 Pra, sipas Apianit, Dardani, heroi eponim i dardanëve, ishte i biri i Ilirit. Në shumë materiale, ilirët përkufizohen si popullsi me origjinë indoevropiane, që mori emrin, sipas traditës mitike, nga Iliri, dhe zuri vend, në kohëra shumë të hershme, në Iliri. Pasi ishin futur në Greqi dhe pasi kishin kontribuar në popullzimin e Italisë, (ku janë njohur si popullsi me origjinë të sigurt ilire, japigët dhe mesapët), nën goditjen e pushtimit kelt, ilirët përfunduan në bregun perëndimor të Gadishullit Ballkanik, dhe të përzierë edhe me elementë trakë, u ndanë në grupe të ndryshme.2 Një pjesë e ilirëve doli nëpër Helespont e Propontide në Azinë e Vogël, sepse dardanët e Trojës, të cilët përmenden në

The Aromanian Cultural Heritage in the Balkans Artefakty przeszłości jako ślady pamięci. Dziedzictwo kulturowe Aromanów na Bałkanach I wish I could become a chronicler of places which never existed on the map, and events of which history never took any notice1. STRESZCZENIE Celem tego artykułu jest odpowiedź na kilka pytań: (1) jakie ślady materialnego dzie- dzictwa kulturowego Aromanów (Wlachów) odnajdujemy na terenach dzisiejszej Albanii, Grecji i Republiki Macedonii; (2) co mówią one o społeczności lokalnej, jej historii i znacze- niu w kulturze europejskiej; (3) czy istnieje współcześnie aromańska pamięć zbiorowa do- tycząca miejsc, w których zachowały się ślady tego dziedzictwa? W tekście dokonano opi- su regionów, które zamieszkiwali Aromanie, zaprezentowano wstępne kryteria podzia- łu ich dziedzictwa kulturowego na grupy, przypisując im wybrane przykłady zabytków, a także wskazano, jakie wybrane znaczenia i sensy związane z kulturą aromańską odkry- wamy, traktując owe zabytki jako tekst kultury. W artykule wykorzystano jakościowe metody badań terenowych, w tym wywiady i obserwacje związane ze śladami tego dziedzictwa w wybranych miejscowościach Grecji, Albanii i Republiki Macedonii, wraz z wykonaniem dokumentacji fotograficznej. Badaniu poddano także źródła zastane (historyczne i etnograficzne) oraz zasoby dostępne w Inter- necie – przeanalizowano narracje dotyczące odpowiednich zabytków w źródłach etnogra- ficznych (dawnych i współczesnych wspomnieniach Aromanów) znajdujące się w nowych mediach, w tym na blogach i portalach internetowych. W analizie posłużono się paradyg- matem historyczno-porównawczym i interpretatywnym, co pozwalało na badanie ukry- tych znaczeń i kodów kulturowych związanych z dziedzictwem aromańskim.

This book was produced under the auspices of the Research Centre for the Humanities of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and with the support of the National Bank of Hungary. Gábor Demeter, PhD (2007) in History and (2008) in Earth Sciences at Debrecen University is a research fellow at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Research Centre for the Humanities, Institute of History (Budapest). His main research topics are: social and economic development on the Balkan Peninsula, diplomatic relations between Austria-Hungary and the Balkan States (1878-1914), historical geography of Hungary in 19th century. Secretary of the Bulgarian–Hungarian Joint Academic Commission of Historians and editor of the Hungarian Historical Review. Habilitated in 2017 at Debrecen University. Krisztián Csaplár-Degovics, PhD in History (2008, Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest) is a senior research fellow at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Research Centre for the Humanities, Institute of History (Budapest), leader of the Department for Southeastern European Studies (2015-2017). Formerly he taught at the Eötvös Loránd University (2008-2012), he was an academic co-worker of the Südost-Institut in Munich (2003-2004) and of the Library of the Albanien-Institut at the Institute for East European History (University of Vienna, 2005-2006). Currently he deals with the Balkan-policy of Austria-Hungary, the nation- and state-building processes in the Balkans, Humanitarian Interventions in the Balkans and with the history of Albania, Serbia, Kosovo and Macedonia in the 19th and 20th century.

Without their help, this dissertation would not have been possible. 3 Abstract This thesis is based on a wide range of primary and secondary sources and explores British policy towards the development of the Albanian national movement and the parallel demise of the Ottoman Empire. It pursues three major objectives. Firstly, it argues that during the period under discussion (1876-1914) Britain had only a limited involvement in the Albanian Question because of a lack of any major interest in Albania.

It is widely accepted that Albanian people are well known about these values, about an excellent coexistence among the believers of different religious communities that are in Albania, mainly Muslims and Christians. In this study we bring the essentials of this phenomenon, promotional roots of these values, while viewed from a previously untreated point of view, and in an attempt to answer the questions: Where does it stem from the religious coexistence in Albania? What are the main promoters of this phenomenon? What has been the attitude of the religious clergy in Albania? Have they been and are the imams and priests, the promotion of tolerance and religious coexistence in Albania? These are some of the questions answered in this modest study, focusing on how nice and with how much delicacy the lectures of the Clergy have addressed this issue to the faithful or to the world in general. Since they enjoyed undisputable reputation and influence in the majority of the population, in the most critical moments of national history, the leaders of Muslims believers, not only have promoted tolerance and religious coexistence, but they have considered the believers of other faiths as ―brothers‖ preaching this conviction in front of their Muslim believers.
