Note: To control for varying methodologies used over the years, all of the retention figures appearing above have been recalculated using the following rules: • The First-College cohort for each year was verified and adjusted in a few cases to remove students who were not truly first-time freshmen. • Re-enrollment was counted as being enrolled in a degree-seeking undergraduate program as of the census date for each fall term. • Students who left the university and were subsequently re-admitted within 6 years of their initial freshman enrollment were included in the appropriate year as re-enrolling. • Students who completed an associate degree and continued at Marymount working toward the bachelor’s degree were not counted as having graduated. Once these students earned their bachelor degrees they were counted as degree completers. However, if a student completed the associate and left the University, that student was counted as having earned his/her degree.

IPEDS Graduation Rate Data: Fall 1998 to 2002 Cohorts

Fall 1998 Fall 1999 Fall 2000 Fall 2001 Fall 2002 Cohort Cohort Cohort Cohort Cohort Initial fall cohort of first-time, full-time 262 302 309 354 361 freshmen Cohort exclusions* 0 0 0 0 0 Final cohort (after subtracting exclusions) 262 302 309 354 361 Completing in 4 years or less 101 120 126 124 134 Completing in more than 4 years but in 29 27 29 44 31 5 years or less Completing in more than 5 years but in 96615 9 6 years or less Total graduating within 6 years 139 153 161 183 174 Six-year graduation rate 53% 51% 52% 52% 48%

* Students may be excluded from the cohort if they did not persist and did not graduate for the following reasons: they are deceased or permanently disabled, or go into the armed forces, foreign aid service of the federal government, or official church missions.

Note: The IPEDS Graduation Rate Survey, which was first instituted in 1997 for the Fall 1991 entering freshmen, gives the percentage of entering first-time, full-time freshmen earning a degree within 150% of the normal time to complete the degree (within 3 years for an associate degree and 6 years for a bachelor’s degree). This is the nationwide standard method of calculating freshman graduation rates. The IPEDS GRS is generated by SCHEV based on the fall headcount and degrees conferred files Marymount submits to SCHEV annually. The cohort used here deviates from Marymount’s first-college entering class because it does not include part-time or Continuous Registration students and because it excludes students who enter with advanced standing due to college-level work done during high school.
