The Brandenburger Symphoniker was founded in 1810. As Brandenburg‘s oldest existing ensemble, they are one of the country‘s most influential cultural institutions. With their unmistakable sound, the Orchestra has delighted their audiences worldwide with a rich variety of classical, romantic and modern orchestral music. The Brandenburg Traditional Orchestra has worked with a number of important conductors in recent decades. Since the beginning of the 2015 / 2016 concert season, Peter Gülke is the Chief Conductor of the Brandenburger Symphoniker. He replaced Michael Helmrath, who successfully conducted the orchestra for many years. Peter Gülke is an important conductor on the international classical music scene and, among nume- rous other awards, was recently awarded the Ernst von Siemens Prize, the „Nobel Prize for Music“. This prize has also been awarded to such outstanding artists as , , Benjamin Britten, and . Peter Gülke’s leadership signals a new chapter in the work of the Brandenburger Symphoniker, which has been followed with great interest by many music lovers. The Brandenburger Symphoniker is a sought-after guest in many national and international concert halls. Guest tours have taken the orchestra, in which musicians from over ten nations currently play together, to the metropoles of Europe, Afrika, Asia and America. They have given acclaimed concerts in Beijing, Qingdao, Guangzhou, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Madrid, Sofia, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Sapporo and Kyoto. The Brandenburger Symphoniker has appeared regularly as a festival orchestra at the „Festival Musica- Mallorca“ and the festival „Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg“. Both festivals are among the most renowned classical music festivals in Europe. Numerous CD recordings, radio and television productions document the versatile and successful work of the orchestra. The symphony orchestra produced a CD with the world-famous Indian violinist and composer Lakshminarayana Subramaniam, among others, which is one of India‘s most sought-after recordings. The internationally renowned jazz trumpeter Dusko Gojkovich was awarded the „Echo“ Jazz Prize for his collaboration with Enja Records and the Brandenburger Symphoniker. In October 2016, the Brandenburger Symphoniker was once again honored for a joint production with GENUIN and Deutschlandradio, for which saxophonist Asya Fateyeva was awarded the „Echo“ as the young artist of the year 2016. The widely acclaimed CD „‘s Symphony in C major“ (ML Peter Gülke) was released in Octo- ber 2017. The Brandenburger Symphoniker is also actively involved in the performance of contemporary orchest- ral music as part of the „Brandenburger Biennale“ composer competition. For many years, the Brandenburger Symphoniker has been a permanent partner orchestra of the Hoch- schule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ and the Universität der Künste in Berlin in the training of young musici- ans and conductors. Special attention is paid to the practical work in and with an orchestra. Under the guidance of experienced orchestra musicians, the young musicians are familiarized with the decisive tasks of everyday orchestra life. Entire generations of today‘s internationally very successful musici- ans and conductors have gained important experience in orchestral practice with the Brandenburger Symphoniker. The Brandenburger Symphoniker also organises a wide range of music education projects with children and young people every year. For its concept for a stronger cultural work in rural areas („REACH“), the orchestra was selected by the German government in 2017 for the „ Exzellente Orches- terlandschaft Deutschland „ programme.
