Tuesday 24th September 2013 – Skyfall (2012) 7.30pm. UK/US. 2hrs 25 mins. Daniel Craig, Judi Dench. Director Sam Mendes. Our first Bond film and this time Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as MI6 comes under attack. Guess who has to try and destroy the threat.
Wednesday 23rd October – Lincoln (2012) 7.30pm. US. 2hrs 29 mins. . Director Steven Spielberg. Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field. In a country divided by war Lincoln pursues a course of action to unite the country and abolish slavery. During this critical time he will change the fate of generations to come.
Tuesday 19th November – Life of Pi (2012) 7.30pm. Canada 2hrs 7 mins. Salma Hayek, Marc Anthony. Director Ang Lee. A young man survives a disaster at sea and is hurled into a an epic journey where he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor – a Bengal Tiger
Wednesday 11th December – Quartet (2013) 7.30pm. UK 1hr 37 mins. Maggie Smith, Tom Courtenay, Pauline Collins. Director Dustin Hoffman. Beecham House is a home for retired musicians. A rumour circulates that a new resident is due. Toys will be thrown out of the pram in this drama/comedy.
Tuesday 21st January 2014 – Les Miserables (2012) 7.30pm. UK/US 2hrs 38mins. Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway. Director Tom Hooper. Another first – our first musical. Victor Hugo’s epic tale set in 19th century France. A story of broken dreams, love, passion, sacrifice and redemption. A testament to the survival of the human spirit.
Wednesday 19th February – Casablanca – Our Classic Film (1942) US. 7.30pm. 1 hr. 42 mins. Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Rains. Director Michael Curtis. A wartime adventure set in a nightclub in Casablanca of course. A story of romance and intrigue and an outstanding performance by HB who is Rick Blaine - the owner.
Tuesday 18th March – Argo (2012). 7.30pm. US. 2hrs. Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston. Director Ben Affleck. Based on a true story of a covert operation to rescue six Americans in 1979. This event was unknown to the public for decades.
Wednesday 23rd April – Hitchcock (2012). 7.30pm. US. 1hr 38 mins. Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson. Director Sacha Gervesi. A love story about one of the most influential filmmakers of the last century.
Tuesday 20th May – The Great Gatsby (2013). US. 7.30pm. 2 hr 23 mins. Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Director BAZ Luhrmann. Set in New York City in 1922 - an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings and sky rocketing stocks.
