TM High Solids Interior Polyurethane

DESCRIPTION: TranSeal™ Traditional is a high solids oil-modified polyurethane clear varnish that is designed for use on all interior bare wood surfaces including kitchen cabinetry, , paneling, log walls and front entrance doors that are not directly exposed to the elements. It is NOT recommended for wood floors. TranSeal™ will impart a rich amber hue that provides a mellow and pleasing appearance while at the same time highlighting and magnifying the natural beauty of the wood grain. It cures to a durable transparent coating that's easy to clean and maintain. 2 coats are normally all that is required. TranSeal™ is available in Gloss and Satin transparencies. SURFACE PREPARATION: For best results, the wood surface must be clean, dry and free Bare Wood TransSeal™ from dust, grease, oil, , dirt, paint, sanding dust, fungus and pitch. Satin For a smooth and tightly bonded finish, lightly sand bare wood surfaces with a medium 180-220 grit sandpaper first before coating with TranSeal™. Older varnished surfaces or a recently coated TranSeal™ surface that has dried for at least 14 days should be sanded first before top coating with TranSeal™. Sanding will insure a stronger adhesion of the TranSeal™ to the varnished surface. When sanding a varnished surface, always vacuum and wipe clean before applying TranSeal™. Also, bleed (called pitch) from knots and other sources should be removed prior to coating. Semi-soft pitch can be partially Bare Wood TransSeal™ melted using a hot air gun. Be very careful not to ignite the pitch and/or char the wood Gloss surface with the intense heat of the hot air gun. Scrape the gooey resin with a putty knife. Allow the heated surface to cool and then wipe the remaining residue with mineral spirits or . Use the necessary precautions when working with combustible solvents. Maintain ventilation, wear solvent-resistant rubber gloves and always have a fire extinguisher close by. TranSeal™ will not stop the bleeding of pitch from knots or from other areas of the wood where pitch pockets are prevalent. MIXING: Mix thoroughly before using. Do not dilute. Soft settling can occur with the Satin finish. Make certain to gently scrape residue off the bottom and mix thoroughly. Hand stirring and preferably using a drill mixer until completely blended is recommended. Do not shake or otherwise create foam. APPLICATION GUIDELINES: ALWAYS MAINTAIN GOOD VENTILATION! Apply with a good quality natural or synthetic bristle varnish brushes or pad applicator, whichever works best in your situation. Avoid excessive brushing, and always coat the wood section to completion. Don't stop in the middle! Apply by brush in smooth even strokes, taking precautions not to deposit too much TranSeal™ in any single area. Because TranSeal™ is a high solids varnish, care must be taken to avoid puddling or applying TranSeal™ at too heavy a rate. Otherwise wrinkling of the coating can occur. For the smoothest finish, light sanding (220 grit) between coats is recommended. Wait until the 1st coat has partially hardened and will sand smoothly, (usually about 6-8 hours or overnight, 75°F/24°C, 50% RH) before sanding and applying the 2nd coat. Sanding when TranSeal™ is too soft will mar the underlying coat as well as gum up the sandpaper. Sand in the direction of the wood grain and remove dust by vacuum and/or tack cloth. Ideal temperature range is 68°F to 85°F (20°C to 30°C). If air and/or surface temperatures are too cold or too hot, TranSeal™ The Continental Products Co. 1150 East 222nd Street, Euclid, Ohio 44117 U.S.A.
