The shoots of this parasitic plant are gathered by herdsmen as a food for livestock FOREWORD Conifers are capable of growing under a wide range of ecological conditions and dominate large areas of the world ’s forests. Conifer forests are especially abundant in the boreal and temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, but are also important components of many tropical and sub-tropical forest ecosystems in both humid and semi-arid zones. In 1995, almost two thirds of the world’s total industrial roundwood production came from conifers according to the statistics in FAO’s Forest ProductsYearbook. In addition to their huge wood production potential, many conifers are capable of providing a wide range of non -wood products that are of great benefit to human society.

Thirty stands of relatively undisturbed vegetation were selected for sampling. Quantitative sampling was carried out by Point Centered Quarter (PCQ) method. Seven tree species were common in the Indus Kohistan valley. Cedrus deodara was recorded from twenty eight different locations and exhibited the highest mean importance value while Pinus wallichiana was recorded from 23 different locations and exhibited second highest mean importance value. Third most occurring species was Abies pindrow that attained the third highest mean importance value and Picea smithiana was recorded from eight different locations and attained fourth highest importance value while it was first dominant in one stand and second dominant in four stands. Pinus gerardiana, Quercus baloot and Taxus fuana were the rare species in this area, these species attained low mean importance value. Six communities and four monospecific stands of Cedrus deodara were recognized. Cedrus-Pinus community was the most occurring community, which was recorded from 13 different stands.

Dörken Morphology and morphogenesis of the seed cones of the Cupressaceae - part II Cupressoideae Summary The cone morphology of the Cupressoideae genera Calocedrus, Thuja, Thujopsis, Chamaecyparis, Fokienia, Platycladus, Microbiota, Tetraclinis, Cupressus and Juniperus are presented in young stages, at pollination time as well as at maturity. Typical cone diagrams were drawn for each genus. In contrast to the taxodiaceous Cupressaceae, in Cupressoideae outgrowths of the seed-scale do not exist; the seed scale is completely reduced to the ovules, inserted in the axil of the cone scale. The cone scale represents the bract scale and is not a bract- /seed scale complex as is often postulated. Especially within the strongly derived groups of the Cupressoideae an increased number of ovules and the appearance of more than one row of ovules occurs. The ovules in a row develop centripetally. Each row represents one of ascending accessory shoots. Within a cone the ovules develop from proximal to distal. Within the Cupressoideae a distinct tendency can be observed shifting the fertile zone in distal parts of the cone by reducing sterile elements. In some of the most derived taxa the ovules are no longer (only) inserted axillary, but (additionally) terminal at the end of the cone axis or they alternate to the terminal cone scales (Microbiota, Tetraclinis, Juniperus). Such non-axillary ovules could be regarded as derived from axillary ones (Microbiota) or they develop directly from the apical meristem and represent elements of a terminal short-shoot (Tetraclinis, Juniperus).

    FAMILY PHYSICIAN With Essential Oils “I finally figured out how to use essential oils—TAKE OFF THE CAP” You can use all of the oils 3 ways; Topically, Internally (drip into an empty gel cap) and with the diffuser. If the bottle has a ‘supplement’ box on the label, you can feel completely safe using it internally. When diluting* the essential oils, use one drop of Coconut Oil for one or two drops of the essential oil. It is not necessary to dilute the essential oils, but for some essential oils which are particularly cool (Peppermint, Wintergreen) or hot (Oregano, Cinnamon, Clove, Cassia), it may not be comfortable on your skin without diluting, and may be particularly uncomfortable for a child. If you use an oil without diluting and it is uncomfortable to the recipient, simply apply a small amount of coconut oil and it will quickly resolve the problem. Also, if you are using the oils on an open sore or wound, it is always a good idea to dilute with coconut oil. Diffusion is powerful because the child can breathe it in and it kills microorganisms in the air which helps stop the spread of sickness. If the oils get in the eyes, it will sting but will not do damage. Simply rub a few drops of your diluter oil on the eye and it will help to relieve the suffering. You can combine and mix any of the oils as much as you like and the oils are safe with any medication. If you are not sure how to apply the oil, know that you can ALWAYS rub it on the bottoms of the feet and you will get the full affect.

It cites the total number of rare and endangered plants in the greenhouse collection of Peter the Great Botanical garden (BIN RAN). The greenhouse collection of Pinaceae representatives has been analysed, provided with a short description of family, genus and certain species, presented in the collection. The article highlights the importance of Pinaceae for various industries, decorative value of plants of this group, the worth of the pinaceous as having environment-improving properties.     Ex-Situ Conservation at Scott Arboretum Public gardens and arboreta are more than just pretty places. They serve as an insurance policy for the future through their well managed ex situ collections. Ex situ conservation focuses on safeguarding species by keeping them in places such as seed banks or living collections. In situ means "on site", so in situ conservation is the conservation of species diversity within normal and natural habitats and ecosystems. The Scott Arboretum is a member of Botanical Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), which works with botanic gardens around the world and other conservation partners to secure plant diversity for the benefit of people and the planet. The aim of BGCI is to ensure that threatened species are secure in botanic garden collections as an insurance policy against loss in the wild. Their work encompasses supporting botanic garden development where this is needed and addressing capacity building needs. They support ex situ conservation for priority species, with a focus on linking ex situ conservation with species conservation in natural habitats and they work with botanic gardens on the development and implementation of habitat restoration and education projects. BGCI uses the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ to identify the level of threat to plants. In-depth analyses of the data contained in the IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Red List are published periodically (usually at least once every four years).
