Prisoner Wine Co. Inspired by “garagiste” field blends from the Prohibition era. Through the years, The Prisoner Wine Company has sought out distinct vineyard sites capable of producing the beautiful, rich, ripe fruit and full mouthfeel that has become our hallmark. These sites—many of them legacy vineyards dry- farmed from pre-Prohibition plantings—remain a critical part of The Prisoner Wine Company’s “family” of growers.

7 Louis Roederer, Reims ‘Cristal’, The Tsar’s wine

Roederer's flagship wine was created in 1876 to satisfy the demanding tastes of Tsar Alexander II. The emperor asked Louis Roederer to reserve the House’s best cuvée for him every year. To distinguish this cuvée, this exceptional champagne came in a flat-bottomed, transparent lead-crystal bottle. Cristal is aged for 6 years in Louis Roederer’s cellars and left for a further 8 months after disgorgement.

Dom Pérignon, Épernay A single-vintage wine made only in the best years

The House prides itself on being “Vintage Only: an assemblage of the finest grapes of a single year in Champagne.” This is an indication of the finest quality. Many houses use blending to try to make more or less the same wine every year while Dom Pérignon welcomes variation.

8 Krug, Reims Krug-Identité

The story of Krug illustrates the amazing adventure of its founder, Joseph Krug, a visionary non- conformist with an uncompromising philosophy. Having understood that the true essence of Champagne is pleasure itself, his dream was to be able to offer the very best Champagne he could create every single year, regardless of the harvest and annual variations in climate. “Our unconventional practices, making choices that were not necessarily the easiest ones and going beyond established rules, have been part of our vision, ever since the House was founded” explains Olivier Krug. Paying close attention to the vineyard’s character, respecting the individuality of each plot and its wine as well as building an extensive library of reserve wines from many different years, allowed Joseph Krug to fulfill his objective.

9 ITALIAN SPARKLING

Ca' del Bosco In the mid 1960’s the Ca’ del Bosco (house in the woods) estate was born when Anna Maria Clementi bought a farm and planted vines near . As a young man her son, Maurizio Zanella, traveled to France and returned with the dream of creating a Champagne region for on a smaller scale. In the gentle hills of Lombardy, the Franciacorta region emerged with its blend of chardonnay, pinot nero, and pinot bianco vinified as the Champenoise do, with a second fermentation in the bottle. The estate’s most famous cuvée is the Anna Maria Clementi, named after Maurizio’s mother.

Domaine Leflaive The roots of the Leflaive family go back to 1717 in Puligny-Montrachet. Domaine Leflaive is one of the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in Burgundy. Biodynamics is a method of cultivation based upon a sensitive understanding of natural phenomenon, taking into account terrestrial and lunar rhythms. It strictly excludes the use of all chemical products. It seeks first to promote the life of the soil thus the wines can better express the qualities and particularities of their terroirs.

Gaja The Gaja winery was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja, the Gaja family having arrived from Spain during the 17th century. The Gaja Family opened a tavern in Barbaresco, serving its wines with the food. It has been owned and operated by five generations of the Gaja family. Giovanni Gaja was the great-grandfather of Angelo Gaja, the Winery's current owner.

La Spinetta La Spinetta – the Rivetti Family

The Rivetti family story began in the 1890s when Giovanni Rivetti, grandfather to brothers Carlo, Bruno and Giorgio, left Piedmont for Argentina. In 1977 the family took up residence at LA SPINETTA (meaning " top of the hill ") in Castagnole Lanze, located in the heart of the area well- known for Moscato d'Asti, a rather light and simple dessert wine at the time. Over time, the family's vision became even grander, and in 1985 LA SPINETTA made its first red wine, Barbera Cà di Pian, with many great reds to follow. In 1989 the Rivetti brothers named their red blend (Nebbiolo/ Barbera) "Pin" in honor of their father. The first Barbaresco, Gallina, was produced in 1995 followed by Barbaresco's Starderi, Barbera d'Alba Gallina in 1996 and Barbaresco Valeirano in 1997. Barbera d'Asti Superiore entered the lineup in 1998.

Giacomo Conterno The ultimate and purest expression of Barolo can be found in bottles bearing the Giacomo Conterno name. In fact, they represent the ideal of traditional Barolo: rich, powerful, massively structured, and capable of long aging in bottle. These majestic wines descend from a colossal legacy, spanning three generations of Conternos: Giacomo, Giovanni, and Roberto—in each case, the torch passing from father to son.

Bruno Giacosa One of the most respected producers of traditional style Barolo, Bruno Giacosa comes from three generations of vinaiolo. He did not go to enological school but instead learned his craft by working with his father and grandfather. In the early 1980’s he bought the Falletto vineyard in Serralunga. Giacosa firmly believes in the value of single-vineyard bottlings. His crus are only bottled in the better vintages, and if a wine does not attain a very high standard, he either declassifies it, selling the wine as a simple nebbiolo, or he does not bottle it at all.

25 Veneto East of Lake Garda near the town of the same name, lies the wine region of Valpolicella. Four red wine styles have emerged from the same blend of the indigenous grapes Corvina, Rodinella, and Molinara. Valpolicella is a fresh, lighter style of wine meant to be drunk young. Amarone di Valpolicella is made from grapes using a method called appassimento. The grapes are dried for 3 months on straw mats concentrating their flavors and sugar content resulting in a bigger, bolder wine. Ripasso di Valpolicella is the middle ground between Amarone and the young Valpolicella. The pressed grapes from Amarone are “refermented” in the young Valpolicella adding body, extract, and a bit more alcohol. Recioto di Valpolicella is a sweet wine made with the same appassimento method, but not fermented dry like Amarone.

27 Donatella Cinelli Colombini Donatella’s family has owned the vineyards in Montalcino and Chianti since the 16th century. Her mother Francesca made Fattoria dei Barbi worldly famous. While Donatella’s brother Stefano continues that tradition, she decided to start her own estate. Casato Prime Donne is an operation where all vintners and the winemaker are women and the wines are famous for their elegant, very traditional style.

Tenuta San Guido The innovative decision to plant Cabernet Sauvignon at the Tenuta San Guido estate was partly due to the similarities its founder, Mario Incisa had noted between Tuscan terrain and that of Graves in Bordeaux. The name Sassicaia or “the place of many stones” refers to this stony, gravelly soil. The wine remained a strictly private affair for over twenty years, only to be commercially released in 1968. It has remained one of the most sought-after wines since.

29 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, named after the grove of flowering ash trees surrounding the winery in Bolgheri, was founded in 1981 by Piero Antinori’s brother, Lodovico. The key element of the success of this renowned estate is its unique soil, composed of clay, gravel, and loam, ideally suited for the cultivation of Bordeaux varieties. While its most famous wine, Ornellaia, is a carefully crafted blend of Cabernet and Merlot, Masseto is a rare, single vineyard wine made entirely from Merlot grapes. The Masseto hill, which now is the source of rich, silky elegant Merlot has become a modern classic.

Paolo Bea Sagrantino di Montefalco is a dark and powerful grape, responsible for some of the finest red wines in Central Italy, and Paolo Bea’s Sagrantinos are the most remarkable of them all. Bea is a firm believer in non-interventionist and natural winemaking which includes organic practices in the vineyard and hands-off approach in the cellar.

Bodegas Catena Founded in 1902, Argentina’s Bodega Catena Zapata is known for its pioneering role in resurrecting Malbec and in discovering extreme high altitude terroirs in the Andean foothills of Mendoza. The family’s Adrianna Vineyard at almost 5,000 feet elevation has been called the Grand Cru of South America. " In the 1980s, Nicolás Catena Zapata changed the history of Argentine wine when he dared to believe that a wine could be made in Mendoza that would stand with the best of the world. Planting Malbec at an altitude where no one thought it would ripen, studying climate and soil to the smallest detail, developing the first ever plant selection of Argentine Malbec, my father and I have embarked on a journey to make a wine with soul, a wine of character, a wine that will age for the generations to come, from our four cherished vineyards: La Pirámide, Adrianna, Domingo, and Nicasia.” Laura Catena, Fourth Generation Vintner

Penfolds The success of Penfolds has been driven by the generations of visionaries and innovators. From the beginning in 1844 to today, the merging of science, art and innovation has driven Penfolds to become one of Australia’s most famed and respected winemakers. In 1960, the Penfolds board instructed Max Schubert to officially re-start production on Grange. His determination and the quality of the aged wine had won them over.

Sauternes Chateau D’Yquem

1855 – Yquem - Premier Cru Supérieur The history of Château d’Yquem is like a novel, an epic saga full of events and colourful personalities spanning more than four centuries. Romain-Bertrand de Lur-Saluces, Françoise- Joséphine's grandson, took his role as manager of Yquem very much to heart, rather than simply taking possession of the family estate, which had become mythical by this time. In 1855, in posthumous recognition of the tremendous accomplishments of "the lady of Yquem", the estate was designated the one and only premier cru supérieur in the famous classification made at the request of Emperor Napoléon III.
