Overview of Zibo 淄博 & Weihai 威海 of Shandong
Zibo is a central city of Shandong Province along the Yellow River, with total area of 5,965 square kilometres. As of the end of 2012, the household population was 4.2 million while urban population was 2.8 million. Weihai is located in the eastern part of Shandong Peninsula with total area of 5,436 square kilometres. As of the end of 2012, the household population was 2.5 million while urban population was 1.3 million.

Competitive Industries & Economic Activities with Hong Kong
Zibo city is one of the sixteen cities in China with industrial economic value over trillions, possessing a wide variety of industrial products up to 11,700 types. Zibo’s leading industries are petrochemical, fine chemical, mechanical and electrical equipment, pharmaceuticals, textiles, building materials, light industry, metal lurgy, information and new materials; industrial sector accounts for 78% of the city’s economy. It is an important petrochemical, pharmaceuticals and building materials production base in China. In addition, about 500 new material enterprises have reached an industrial value of 200 billion RMB or above in 2012.
There are now 611 investment projects by Hong Kong companies in Zibo, cooperation centres on areas of new materials, modern logistics, urban agriculture, intercity rail transportation, tourist resorts, urban complexes, ancient cultural tourism (‘Qi’ state), ceramics and creative industries, eco-education cultural parks and finance etc. among these, more than 300 have been launched.
Weihai city is Shandong peninsula’s manufacturing base and a major city in the Blue Economic Zone, having more than 3,000 kinds of industrial products , with new information, new materials, new energy, new pharmaceuticals and high -end equipment spearheading the industries; and machinery, chemicals, building materials, textiles & clothing, and food as the backbone, forming an industrial system with distinctive regional characteristics. It has been concentrating on building the six competitive industrial bases, namely: numerical machinery production base, special machinery and equipment manufacturing base, motor vehicles and spare parts production base, craft and textiles base, woven carpet industry base, fishing gear production and marine products distribution base.
Currently, a total of 230 Hong Kong enterprises invest in Weihai. The actual foreign investment of Hong Kong companies ranks second among all countries and regions investing in Weihai, after South Korea; involving fields of medical equipment, wind power generation, tourism and real estate etc. There also exist 18 enterprises from Weihai city in Hong Kong, investing $ 120 million in areas of medical devices, shipping, trade and investment etc.
