MICHAEL COONROD, Instructor of Piano at Interlochen for 39 years, has been a mentor to hundreds of students at Interlochen Arts Academy and Arts Camp since 1976. His role as a professional performing pianist, a counselor for maturing young musicians, and a teacher of musical style, practice skills, and technique has created a healthy environment for students to achieve their maximum ability. His Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees were earned at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, part of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where he studied with Konrad Wolff, biographer of Artur Schnabel. Additional training came from Leon Fleischer, Adele Marcus, George Walker, and Lucien Hut at the University of Montana. Dr. Coonrod has performed and given master classes at the Qingdao University in China, the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw , and the Eastman School of Music. He is married to Jean Merce Coonrod, with three grown children and three grandchildren.

THOMAS LYMENSTULL, Instructor of Piano at Interlochen Arts Academy, has performed throughout the United States and in Japan, Taiwan, and the People's Republic of China. He has performed with Ronald Leonard, Mitchell Lurie, Charles Castleman, and the Kronos Quartet among many others. He won first prize in the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition and was a prizewinner in other national and international competitions. Before coming to the Academy, Dr. Lymenstull was Associate Professor of Piano Pedagogy at the University of Southern California. At USC he was honored as a Teaching Fellow of the USC Center for Excellence in Teaching, and received a Zumberge Faculty Research and Innovation Fellowship, USC's most prestigious research grant, to research piano music from China. He has subsequently presented lecture recitals on Chinese piano music and has included this repertoire on concert programs. Dr. Lymenstull's articles have appeared in American Music Teacher and he has given workshops and master classes in Japan, South Korea, China, Singapore, and Taiwan. He divides his summers between teaching and performing at Interlochen Arts Camp and at the Montecito Music Festival in California.
