He stressed that the Ukrainian people fought the same kind of battle which the Americans once had fought in Philadelphia for the national independence and .

“In recognition of this vital activity of President Poroshenko and the efforts of the people of Ukraine, I have the honor to present him with the International Statesman Award,” Snyder said.

As the president of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia noted, the organization presents this award not according to a clearly defined schedule but only when there is an understanding that the activity of a certain person meets the criteria of courage and vision at a certain moment.

In turn, President Poroshenko noted that he was deeply moved by this decoration and that it was a great honor for him and for the entire Ukrainian nation.

“I consider this decoration to be recognition of our common efforts, recognition of the progress we have achieved as the Ukrainian nation. It is a symbol of unity and solidarity with Ukraine,” he said.

Poroshenko told the audience that every citizen of Ukraine appreciated the fact that the United States stood shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine.

“We are proud of having stable bipartisan support in the US Congress, as well as the support of the Administration,” the said.

The World Affairs Council of Philadelphia is a non-governmental organization founded in 1862 as a patriotic association in support of the policies of Abraham Lincoln. During the working visit to the US, President Petro Poroshenko received the International Statesman Reward of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia.

“I’m deeply moved and feel highly honored to receive the International Statesmen Award of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia. I consider it as the acknowledgement of our joint efforts. I consider it as the recognition of the progress we made as the Ukrainian nation. I consider it as a symbol of unity and solidarity of the American people, Congress and Administration with Ukraine,” the noted.

The President emphasized that February 20 was the day of a very special significance for every Ukrainian, as five years ago, it made the history of our nation when the people won over the anti- democratic regime. The Head of State informed that he had attended earlier the Heavenly Hundred Heroes memorial service in St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the U.S.A. in South Bound Brook, New Jersey. “It was deeply touching, and I appreciate that the U.S. Ukrainian community and our American friends share our grief and pain, as well as hopes and aspirations to accomplish the goal that their lives were given for,” Petro Poroshenko said. The President noted that by the side of the Liberty Bell and the Independence Hall, he felt great excitement and inspiration, and huge responsibility to fulfill that goal.

The Head of State referred to the words of the U.S. iconic figure, President Abraham Lincoln: “our task is to ensure that those dead, those who gave their lives, so that we might live free, shall not have died in vain”.

“The Kremlin can’t stop striving to revitalize the 2.0 and the methods of achieving this aim are the same as they used to be under the Communist rulers. The methods used for , red terror and other crimes vividly showing the horrifying scale of Kremlin’s disregard of human life and disrespect for civil rights and freedoms,” he said. The President stressed that 13 thousand Ukrainians had been killed in 5 years, the rights of the Crimean Tatars and other Ukrainian patriots in the occupied territories were systematically violated, dangerous militarization of was taking place, let alone many Ukrainian prisoners of war.

The President once again expressed gratitude for the reward: “We shall never waste our chance to make our significant positive impact on world affairs and ensuring better future for the generations to come. It is our noble mission to achieve lasting peace through the support of freedom and democracy. As you do so in the United States, as we do so in Ukraine and as we do so together in the world".

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko receives award in Center City PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The President of Ukraine was in Philadelphia Wednesday night to accept an award and share his hope for peace in his country.

President Petro Poroshenko received the International Statesman Award at a World Affairs Council of Philadelphia event in Center City.

During his keynote speech, Poroshenko discussed what it is like leading a country in the face of international aggression.
