1.0 HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM

In the current times, our health has become the most important factor governing the decisions we make in life. And, much research has been done to find a way to safely and efficiently monitor our health.

In the 20th century (late 1940s), Dr. Reinholt Voll conducted research on the effects of electricity on human physiology. Dr. Voll used a technique that would measure the resistance of conductivity at various points in the body. He found that at some points, which corresponded to the Traditional Chinese Medicine meridian points, were much more conductive to the electrical flow than the rest.

During his research, Doctor Voll discovered that, electromagnetic waves existed around our body cells and that these electromagnetic waves shared the same channel with the Chinese meridian channels. What was great is that these very minute microbial electrical currents were measurable, and could be tabulated for the various meridian points on the body.

1.1 The relationship between points and pathology

In 1950, a Japanese doctor found that there were some series of points whose resistance were lower than others, especially when people fell sick. Electrical waves enter our body through pores. The resistance is controlled by the sizes of pores, which is conducted by the autonomic nerve. The resistance of each meridian can be changed by the influence of the autonomic nerve when a person is sick

During the era of the Cold War, the competition between Russia and United States was tense in nearly every field including Astrospace station and the health of the astronauts. Russia organized a research team and invented the long- distance automatic reflecting diagnostic system. Through this system, they supervised the health of the astronauts. A fresh health report of the astronauts would be transmitted to the research center at regular intervals. Then medical professionals gave them suggestions on how to stay healthy. This is the so-called automatic reflecting diagnostic system.

This “automatic reflecting diagnostic system” is bulky, expensive and it requires a professional medical doctor fluent with meridian points to interpret the results. Therefore, in the late 1990s, a lot of research was done in Taiwan to come up with a testing system that incorporated Dr. Voll’s technology and the Traditional Chinese Meridian points and , in a small enough package that is affordable to the average person, and also generates results are

Copyrights © Achievers Zone For Internal Circulation Only HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM interpretable by the average person. From the efforts in Taiwan, a company was incorporated in China called SICHUAN BEISHIDE HEALTH CARE CONSULTANTS (Bester Health).

Today SICHUAN BEISHIDE HEALTH CARE CONSULTANTS manages the global database of meridian readings, correlation (which determines the best results to show given the test results) and manufactures the “Health Monitoring System”, a handheld analysis system which can produce a full Health Monitoring System analysis of the body using 24 meridian points, and in less than 20 minutes.

Achievers Zone a management consultancy and business training organization providing professional consulting, professional training to various verticals across all sectors, has been given the worldwide distribution rights for the Health Monitoring System. It is headquartered in Singapore and has presence in Malaysia, Thailand, India, China and USA.

1.2 The Theory

This technology is only possible because of the merger of western technology and the theory of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). Using the theory of meridians, the computer records the microbial waves released by the meridian points. This information is then uploaded to a comprehensive database for analysis. After analyzing and correlating the information, the report is generated. This report can be printed on regular paper.

Copyrights © Achievers Zone For Internal Circulation Only HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM

This use of the automatic reflecting diagnostic system will benefit a lot of people. The accuracy of this system can reach 80% if measurement criteria’s are followed properly. It is safe, painless, noninvasive, and easy to operate. The testing only needs 15 to 20 minutes even if the person has chronic or acute diseases.

1.3 The Health Analysis concept of the Health Monitoring System

● Combined with cosmetology, Health Food, Health equipment, Bio- Medicine and the Health Monitoring System, a person’s health situation can be easily understood without invasion of the body (no needles), so the best options towards being healthy can be easily made.

● Through long-term clinical trials, the database has been constantly updated so as to produce results that are at least 80% accurate compared to a comprehensive blood test.

● The common user can check their health situation through the Health Monitoring System, and choose the best way to stay healthy. It is very important for the examinee to prepare himself/herself before being tested using the Health Monitoring System.

Copyrights © Achievers Zone For Internal Circulation Only HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM

1.4 Preparing to be examined:

● Maintain a healthy lifestyle: good rest, good diet, avoid excessive alcohol, coffee, also avoid fatigue and emotional fluctuation two days before testing. ● If the examinee has eaten or drank something, keep a gap of minimum one hour before conducting this test. ● Take rest of at least half an hour after any rigorous motion ● Take off ornaments and any means of electronic communications (cell phones), and also turn them off. ● Take off your shoes and stockings, revealing wrist and anklebone. ● Keep quite, relax, no talking, keep your feet above the ground and in horizontal position when testing. ● Women in menses and patients who have pacemaker are not fit for the test. ● The perfect testing time should between 9:30 to 23:00. Beyond this time slot, the accuracy of the test will be affected.

1.5 Meridians

Based on extensive research, the Health Monitoring System’s data is collected based on the 12 meridian acupoints on the right and left side of the human body. This makes it a total of 24 meridian acupoints on which microbial currents are measured. Below mentioned are the 12 meridian acupoints for the left side only. Similarly, the 12 points on the right hand side will make up the total of 24 meridian acupoints.

2.0 TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE

Traditional Chinese medicine (also known as TCM) is a range of traditional medical practices originating in China that developed over several thousand years. The English phrase "TCM" was created in the 1950s by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in order to export Chinese medicine as there is no equivalent phrase in Chinese. In fact, TCM is a modern compilation of traditional Chinese medicine. TCM practices include theories, diagnosis and treatments such as , acupuncture and massage; often is also strongly affiliated with TCM. TCM is a form of so-called Oriental medicine, which includes other traditional East Asian medical systems such as traditional Japanese and Korean medicine.

TCM theory asserts that processes of the human body are interrelated and in constant interaction with the environment. Signs of disharmony help the TCM practitioner to understand, treat and prevent illness and disease.

In the West, traditional Chinese medicine is considered as an . In mainland China and Taiwan, TCM is considered an integral part of the health care system. For example, TCM treatments may be prescribed to

Copyrights © Achievers Zone For Internal Circulation Only HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM counter the side effects of chemotherapy, cravings and withdrawal symptoms of drug addicts, and a variety of chronic conditions. TCM theory is based on a number of philosophical frameworks including the theory of Yin-yang, the Five Elements, the human body Meridian system, Zang Fu organ theory, and others. Diagnosis and treatment are conducted with reference to these concepts. TCM does not operate within a scientific paradigm but some practitioners make efforts to bring practices into a biomedical and evidence-based medicine framework.

2.1 AYURVEDA & TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE

Ayurveda and TCM have many commonalities. The focus of both the systems is on the patient rather than disease. Both systems fundamentally aim to promote health and enhance the quality of life, with therapeutic strategies for treatment of specific diseases or symptoms in holistic fashion. Almost half of the botanical sources used as have similarities; moreover, both systems have similar philosophies geared towards enabling classification of individuals, materials and diseases. TCM considers the human at the center of the universe as an antenna between celestial and earthly elements. , , metal, and are the five elements of the material world. The world is a single unit and its movement gives rise to , the two main antithetic aspects. The actual meaning of the term yin and yang is ‘opposites’, such as the positive and the negative. However, Chinese believe that yin and yang is not absolute but

Copyrights © Achievers Zone For Internal Circulation Only HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM relative. Consistent with the modern view of homeostasis, yin and yang are interchanged to meet the view that ‘yang declines and yin rises’ or ‘yang is raised to produce a decline of yin’. The four bodily humors (, blood, moisture and essence) and internal organ systems (zang fu) play an important role in balancing the yin and yang in human body. Proper formation, maintenance and circulation of these energies are essential for health. When the two energies fall out of harmony, disease develops. The physician takes into account this concept while treating patients. Drugs or herbs are used to correct this imbalance of yin–yang in the human body. Ayurveda considers that the universe is made up of combinations of the five elements (pancha mahabhutas). These are akasha (ether), vayu (air), teja (fire), aap (water) and prithvi (earth). The five elements can be seen to exist in the material universe at all scales of life and in both organic and inorganic things. In biological system, such as humans, elements are coded into three forces, which govern all life processes. These three forces (kapha, pitta and vata) are known as the three or simply the tridosha. Each of the doshas is composed of one or two elements. Vata is composed of space and air, pitta of fire, and kapha of water and earth. Vata has the mobility and quickness of space and air; pitta dosha the metabolic qualities of fire; kapha dosha the stability and solidity of water and earth. The tridosha regulates every physiological and psychological process in the living organism. The interplay among them determines the qualities and conditions of the individual. A harmonious state of the three doshas creates balance and health; an imbalance, which might be an excess (vriddhi) or deficiency (kshaya), manifests as a sign or symptom of disease.

2.2 Models of the body: 1 Yin or Yang: Yin and yang are generalizations of the antithesis or mutual correlation between certain objects or phenomena in the natural world, combining to create a unity of opposites. Liang Yi (Simplified Chinese: Traditional Chinese: : liǎngyí), also known as Yin-Yang or heaven and earth, have a similar meaning. The dual concepts of yin and yang – or the single concept yin-yang – originated in ancient Korean philosophy and metaphysics, which describe two primal opposing but complementary principles or cosmic forces said to be found in all non-static objects and processes in the universe. This paradoxical concept is the cornerstone of most branches of Eastern Philosophy, as well as traditional Chinese medicine.

1 Five elements: In traditional Chinese philosophy, natural phenomena can be classified into the Five Elements: metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. These elements were used for describing interactions and relationships between phenomena. Five Phases is the more appropriate way of translating wǔxíng — literally, "five goings". Traditional Taijiquan schools relate them to footwork and refer to them as five "steps". The original foundation is based on the concept of the Five Cardinal Points. Copyrights © Achievers Zone For Internal Circulation Only HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM

1 Zang Fu theory: The visceral manifestations are organs contained within the human body and are the common name of five zang viscera. Zang-Fu theory is a concept within traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that describes the functions of the organs of the body and the interactions that occur between them. Zang refers to the yin organs - heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, pericardium - whilst Fu refers to the yang organs - small intestine, large intestine, gall bladder, urinary bladder, stomach and san jiao. Each of the twelve zang-fu organs listed has a corresponding organ, except the pericardium and san jiao which both describe functions that are not related to an organ. Each zang is paired with a fu, and each pair is assigned to one of the five elements. The organs themselves are characterized not by anatomical position but by a general function within the system as a whole that may not necessarily correspond to any western anatomical account. The functions of the organs are described with respect to their roles to each other, connections to the body surface, including meridians, Qi (vital force), Spirit (psychological aspect), (TCM) (essence), Xue (blood), and "fluids."

Copyrights © Achievers Zone For Internal Circulation Only HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM

The five elements are associated energetically with the following Zang-Fu organs

o Wood: Liver, home of the Hun Ethereal Soul), paired with the Gall Bladder o Fire: Heart, home of the (Aggregate Soul) paired with the Small intestine (and secondarily, the San Jiao or Triple burner and Pericardium) o Earth: Spleen, home of the Yi (Intellect), paired with the Stomach o Water: Kidney, home of the Zhi (Will), paired with the Bladder o Metal: Lung, home of the Po (Corporeal Soul), paired with the Large Intestine

TCM diagnoses rely on recognizing global patterns of dysfunction in the patient, explainable in terms of five element theory and yin-yang theory. A thorough understanding of each organ's function and symptoms of dysfunction will give insight into the process of disease and illness according to TCM.

1 Meridian: Meridians, or channels, are invisible pathways through which Qi flows that form an energy network that connects all parts of the body, and the body to the universe. It is the path of running Qi and blood, connection of zang-fu viscera, and run through top and bottom. It is from the techniques and doctrines of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), including acupuncture, , and qigong. According to these practices, the body's vital energy, "qi", circulates through the body along specific interconnected channels called meridians. There is no physically verifiable anatomical or histological proof of their existence, though

Copyrights © Achievers Zone For Internal Circulation Only HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM

research has shown how transmission of information experienced as ‘qi’ could be possible through the subcutaneous fascia. BACKGROUND In TCM, patterns of disharmony (i.e., bad health and emotional disorders) in the body are thought to be caused by disruptions of the body's energy flow along a series of acu-tracts. To correct those disruptions, specific points on the meridians called acupoints are stimulated via needles, burning incense cones (moxa), applying pressure or other means. The Standard Acupuncture Nomenclature published by the World Health Organization listed about 400 acupuncture points and 20 meridians connecting most of the points, however by the 2nd Century CE, 649 were recognised in China. Such 20 meridians are usually called the "12 standard meridians", with each meridian corresponding to each organ; nourishing it and extending to an extremity. There are also "8 extraordinary meridians", two of which have their own sets of points, and the remaining ones connecting points on other channels. The twelve standard meridians go along the arms and the legs. They are: Lung, Large Intestine, Stomach, Spleen, Heart, Small Intestine, Urinary Bladder, Kidney, Pericardium, Triple Warmer (aka Triple Heater), Gall Bladder, and Liver. These terms refer to biological functions and not the structural organ, which is why there are some on the list with no corresponding anatomical structure.

The Table Below Gives A More Systematic List Of The Meridians:

Organ Yin / Yang Arm / Leg 5 elements

1 Three (San) Jiaos: also known as the Triple Burner or the Triple Warmer. The identification of disease according to the Three Burners was first described by Wu Ju Tong in his book "A Systematic Identification of Febrile Diseases". The system is often combined with Four Stages theory when diagnosing and treating an externally contracted disease caused by a wind-heat pathogen. The disease will be diagnosed and understood according to its location within the three burners. This system is used within the practice of

Copyrights © Achievers Zone For Internal Circulation Only HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM

Chinese herbal medicine, rather than acupuncture or other Chinese medicine modalities. Note that San Jiao theory differs slightly from the San Jiao organ, which is described by Chinese Medicine as the passage of heat and fluid throughout the body.

The three burners are most commonly referred to by their respective names: o Upper Jiao o Middle Jiao o Lower Jiao

Upper Jiao The Upper Jiao refers to the upper part of the body, and includes the Heart, Lung, and Pericardium organs. Patterns that affect the upper burner include: o Wind-heat invading the lungs — symptoms include fever, aversion to cold, headache, sore throat, red and swollen tonsils, red tip on tongue, floating-rapid pulse. o Heat in the lungs — symptoms include fever, sweating, cough, asthma, thirst, red tongue with yellow coat, rapid pulse. o Heat in the pericardium — symptoms include fever, delirium, aphasia, burning feeling in epigastrium, cold limbs, dark red tongue with no coat, fine-rapid pulse.

Copyrights © Achievers Zone For Internal Circulation Only HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM

Middle Jiao The middle jiao refers to the midsection of the body and includes the Spleen, Stomach, Gall Bladder and Liver organs. o Heat in Yang Ming — symptoms include high fever, profuse sweating, constipation, large thirst, irritability or delirium, red tongue with dry yellow coat, deep and full pulse. The yang ming pattern is often referred to as the Four Bigs — big fever, big sweat, big thirst, big pulse. o Damp-Heat invading the Spleen — symptoms include aversion to cold, low fever in the afternoon, feeling of heaviness, nausea, vomiting, white-sticky tongue coat, soft and slow pulse.

Lower Jiao The lower jiao refers to the lower section of the body and includes the Small and Large Intestines, the Kidneys and the Urinary Bladder. o Lower jiao pattern — symptoms include low grade fever in the afternoon, hot palms and soles (also called 5 palm heat), dry mouth, convulsions, deep-red tongue with no coat, fine-rapid pulse. The Yin/Yang and five element theories may be applied to a variety of systems other than the human body, whereas Zang Fu theory, meridian theory and three-jiao (Triple warmer) theories are more specific.

There are also separate models that apply to specific pathological influences, such as the Four stages theory of the progression of warm diseases, the Six levels theory of the penetration of cold diseases, and the Eight principles system of disease classification.
