... knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.” As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him. Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?” Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.”

John 6:60-69

OUR MISSION STATEMENT We are a Catholic Community that is called by God to follow Jesus . We believe that we are called to worship God together, to lead God's people along the path of hope laid down by Jesus, to share his message through preaching, through the education and formation of our people, young and old, and through caring service and sensitive outreach to those in need. Rev D Liliedahl Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time August 22, 2021

The school year has begun! The glorious sounds of students arriving in the morning, learning and playing throughout the day, and leaving after school ends are welcome sounds after a quiet summer. I ask you to continue to pray for our students, for our teachers, administrators and staff and for the families of our students at the beginning of this school year. We all know how tough these past 17 months have been on kids as they have been persevering through online classes, new schedules and new realities that impact their lives so drastically. Our hope, and our prayer, is that we will be able to have the students in the physical classroom for the entire year. But we’ve all been following the news as the numbers of cases and hospitalizations rise with the Delta variant. Be assured that we are keeping on top of the latest guidelines and recom- mendations to keep the students and staff safe at school but also keeping people safe on the parish side of things. If re- strictions are needed again, such as limiting pew seating to every other pew again for social distancing or pausing in per- son collection baskets, we will do this. But please be assured that I will do everything to ensure that the sacraments are made safely available should the situation with the Delta variant cause things to regress. And speaking of making the sacraments available, I would like to announce that we will be restarting the 11:30 am Sun- day Mass again in September. Beginning the first weekend of September we will once again have 3 morning Masses on Sunday with confessions available before each of those Masses to go along with our Saturday Vigil Mass and our Sun- day evening Mass. The 11:30 am Mass will feature our choir which has begun practicing this week (it’s not too late to join the choir, either!) and I look forward to hearing the fruits of their practice. Know that we are praying for you and your family here and we look forward to seeing you join us each Sunday at Mass.

Our for the Week August 22, 2021 - Saint Monica “The child of such tears will never perish”

These words were a great comfort to our saint this week, St. Monica when she heard them after confid- ing in a priest about how often she would cry about what her son was doing. Born in Northern Africa (then part of the ) in the 300s, St. Monica was a deeply religious woman who married a pagan and soon had 3 children. Her oldest son would cause her the most grief as he was renowned for his intellect and charm but, much to the grief of his mother, had abandoned the faith of his childhood for worldly pleasures. Monica would spend much time praying and crying over what she saw her son be- coming. But God heard her prayers and tears and in a moment of grace, her son sought out a great bish- op not because of a desire to learn about the faith but rather to study the bishop’s speaking style during his homilies. Later on her son would have a very powerful conversion experience that he would credit primarily to his mother’s prayers. Monica’s son would go on to become one of the church’s greatest theologians and bishops, St. Augustine. Without St. Monica, we would never have had St. Augustine and so it is right that we celebrate both these on back to back days. St. Monica’s feast day is August 27.
