“And Stephen Was Heard…” A Quarterly Newsletter July / August, 2021 Volume 1, Issue 4 of Saint Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church in Kearny, New Jersey FROM OUR PASTOR... My dear parishioners and friends of Saint Stephen’s parish, I have to be honest, I’ve never really liked the summer months. Even with the promise of a slower schedule and the opportunity for more rest and relaxation, I’m not a lover of the heat and hu- midity! But God has a sense of humor and gave me a July birth- day so the summer is not all that bad! But this year, especially, there is a renewed sense of optimism and hope as we enter the summer. Many of the state and Archdi- ocesan restrictions for worship have been lifted. We have seen more people return to Mass after a 15-month dispensation and that is encouraging! As we return to Church and to parish life, a small group of staff INSIDE THIS ISSUE and volunteers have been meeting to talk about and plan for life Welcome Back! .................. 2 after COVID. Father Joe administered the sac- rament to the group on Thursday and Bishop Cruz, on Friday. In addition, on Sunday, June 20, five adults completed their initiation by being confirmed after completing the RCIA process. We pray for those confirmed, that the Holy Spirit will always inspire them to stay close to the Lord and His Church and demonstrate the greatest commandment - love of God and love of neighbor.
