Spring 2017 Audition Packet 5-12th grade Welcome to Wolf Performing Arts Center’s spring 2017 season! This spring, we will bring 2 musicals to life; one in our black box theater and one at St. Joseph University’s Bluett Theater. Actors interested in auditioning for our spring productions must read this packet thoroughly to learn about the auditions, rehearsals and performances for each production. In this packet you will find: Information about auditions and callbacks Details about rehearsals and performances for each show Audition selections Forms to be filled out and turned in during your audition Preliminary Auditions Monday, January 23rd and Tuesday, January 24th from 6-8:30pm You can sign up for your audition time slot through our website (www.wolfperformingartscenter.org). All actors will audition for the directors of INTO THE WOODS, Jr. and PIPPIN at the same time. Audition monologues can be found in this packet. Callbacks Following the preliminary auditions, each director will call back actors to read for specific roles in each play. Callbacks will be held on Thursday, January 26th from 5-9pm and Saturday, January 28th from 10am – 2pm. Those who are needed for callbacks will be notified via email by Wednesday, January 25th. Those who do not receive a callback may still be cast. Casting Cast lists will be sent out via email by Monday, January 30th. Casting at Wolf PAC is based on three main criteria: talent, behavior and availability. Once the production staff has had the chance to assess the criteria for every actor who auditions, we will assign roles based on what is the best fit for the actor and the overall production. Please remember… You may be cast in more than one show. You may also be in a performance and take a winter class. If you have already signed up for winter classes at Wolf PAC and you are cast in a show, you have the option to credit your class tuition toward the performance tuition if the class conflicts with the performance. If you are not cast in a show and would like to sign up for a winter class, you may do so by completing the registration form on our website. This is a great way to improve your performance skills! Actor Responsibilities Wolf PAC promises a positive, professional theatre experience which can only be accomplished with your positive and professional participation. It is important to attend every scheduled rehearsal. Although at first every performer may not be needed for each rehearsal, the amount of rehearsal time will increase as we get closer to performance dates. Not everyone who auditions will be cast in a show. Earning a role is a privilege and you are expected to uphold your responsibilities as an actor. Please list all conflicts on the pages provided. Knowing your conflicts ahead of time allows us to create a productive rehearsal schedule, so please be as thorough as possible. Conflicts revealed AFTER casting may result in a change or loss of part Each director may assign other actor responsibilities (memorization deadlines, what to bring to rehearsal, general rules). Those responsibilities will be explained at your first rehearsal. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. These beloved fairy-tale characters' fates intertwine when they all travel into the woods. The musical that started the idea of "fairy-tale mash-ups," Into the Woods is a modern twist on classic stories we have known and loved since childhood. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MEMORIZE YOUR SONG. You can find recordings and sheet music to the songs below in your audition confirmation email. Your entire audition will last approximately 1 hour. FROM PIPPIN Simple Joys- M. 39-58 (For Males/Females) Sweet summer evenings, hot wine and bread. Sharing your supper, sharing your bed. Simple joys have a simple voice. It says: why not go ahead? Wouldn’t you rather be a left handed flea, Or a crab on a slab at the bottom of the sea, Than a man who never learns how to be free. Not ‘til he’s cold and dead? Corner of the Sky- M. 1-18 (For Males) Everything has it’s season, everything has its time. Show me a reason and I’ll soon show you a rhyme. Cats fit on the window sill, children sit in the snow. Why do I feel I don’t fit in anywhere I go? Rivers belong where they can ramble, Eagles belong where they can fly. I’ve got to be where my spirit can run free. Gotta find my corner of the sky. Kind of a Woman- 45-end (For Females) Still I’ll understand if I’m not your kind of woman, Any one can make one terrible mistake. And I’ve no special glamour, no bait I can twirl, For I’m just a plain, ev’ry day, common place, Come what may, av’rage, ordinary wonderful girl! FROM INTO THE WOODS, JR. I Know Things Now- M. 31-43 (For Females) And I know things now, many valuable things, That I hadn’t known before: Do not put your faith in a cape and a hood, They will not protect you the way they should And take extra care with strangers, Even flowers have their dangers. And though scary is exciting. Nice is diff’rent than good. Giants in the Sky- M. 20-end (For Males or Females) There’s a big tall terrible Giant at the door. A big tall terrible Giant with a terrible roar. So you steal some gold and away you go, And you scramble down to the world below, And you’re back again, only diff’rent than before. After the sky. There are Giants in the sky! There are big tall terrible awesome scary wonderful Giants in the sky! It Takes Two- (Choose EITHER the Baker or the Baker’s Wife’s part) Baker’s Wife- M. 1-17- You’ve change. You’re daring. You’re different in the Woods. More sure. More sharing. You’re getting us through the Woods. If you could see you’re not the man who started, And much more open hearted that I knew you to be Baker- M. 17-32- It takes two.
