LEVEL 1 (QS EL-1): QURANIC STUDIES ELEMENTARY 1

Course Summary: There is no writing requirement in the class. The emphasis is on the student recognizing the alphabets and being able to pronounce it with the proper Tajweed. Since there is no writing requirement, students will spend more time in memorization of the Alphabets, First & Second Kalimahs and a couple Surahs since their memorization ability is keen at this age. Students should have basic introduction to Salah concepts and learn few related Tasbihaat. The recognition and memorization will be done through constant readings and practicing of the exercises provided in the book and/or audio programs as needed.

Course Outline:

Quranic Readings/Tajweed Rules: At this level, students should be able to:

 Recognize and Understand each Arabic Alphabet/letter with correct Makhaarij (pronunciation)

 Recognize each letter individually and in the Combined form in a word

 Recognize and Understand proper pronunciation of each HARAKAH (FATHAH, KASRAH and DHAMMAH

 Recognize and Understand TANWEEN (i.e., Fathatain, Kasratain, Dhammatain i.e., Two Fathah, Two Kasrah and Two Dhammah

In addition to the Quranic Readings, students should be able to:

 Practice and Memorize Ta’awuz (Aozobillah..) and Tasmiyah (Bismillah..) and (with proper Tajweed)

 Memorize Salah Tasbihaat such as Thana, Ruku, Tasmee, Tahmeed and Sajdah (p 41 Qaida book).

 Practice and Memorize Surah Al-Fatiha and Surah Al-Akhlas

 Practice and Memorize the First & Second Kalimahs/Name with meaning (p 37 Qaida book)

Note- Memorization should be done with proper Tajweed or using Mohammad Al-Minshawi (e-Quran App.)

Books: Ahsanul Qawaid (Lessons 1 to 10, First & Second Kalimah). Copies of Surah(s) and other material will be provide as needed in the form of handouts
