Bob was diagnosed with mesothelioma, the cancer from the asbestos just prior to Christmas and as is his nature fought it hard and never disclosed the intense pain he was in. It is of some little comfort that we know he no longer suffers. Bob joined the Dragons in 1961 from the Penshurst Panthers junior club and played the season in the Third Grade (Under 19’s) winning the B&F. The following season Bob was promoted to First Grade and played 175 senior games until he retired in 1972. In between Bob made the No 9 jersey his own winning 5 First Grade B&F’s and playing in the 1964 premiership team which celebrated its 50 year reunion just last season. He played 8 times for NSW and was granted Life Membership of the Dragons in 1970 and elected to the Saints Hall of Fame in 2005. He was further honoured being elected into the Sydney AFL HOF in 2010. Bob shared the vision of the Dragons, to develop young footballers into young men, allowing them to be the best that they can be, with premierships the icing on the cake. To this end he worked tirelessly at the Dragons. He was the manager of the club premises fixing everything that needed fixing, organising and doing the cleaning of the rooms with his very small band of helpers, being the club’s timekeeper on game day, picking up the rubbish afterwards, organising the Presentation Night and a thousand other things. The only thing he refused to do was painting but with our recent extensions he was even seen with a paint brush in his hands. More importantly he was there for the players, an ear, never critical always supportive. If you wore red and white, you had to reach set standards but you were special. It is not an exaggeration to state that 7 or 8 years ago when the club was on its knees except for Bob and his great mate Danny Dwyer the St George Dragons would no longer exist. Bob had great values and most importantly he lived them. He was modest, hard working, honest and trustworthy. His family were central to his life. His wife Marcia, Karen, Tanya and Neale and their partners, Cal, David and Megan and grandchildren Elise, Neve, Hannah and Molly remain with great memories to cherish. We share in your loss and thank you for sharing Bob with our club. It just won’t be the same at Olds Park. Vale Bob. There was a celebration of Bob’s life and contribution to the Dragons at the first home match at Olds Park on Saturday 18 April. St. George Australian Football Club Incorporated – 2015 Annual Report 4 PRESIDENT'S REPORT 2015 was a successful season for the Dragons without winning a premiership. I will leave it to the coaches to report on the season on the field. As recorded at the beginning of this Annual Report the Dragons lost Bob Sterling before the season commenced. We again offer our condolences to his wife Marcia, his sister Marion and brother Bruce and his family. We lost a big part of our DNA and he is greatly missed. As I seem to do repeatedly but it is important, I again acknowledge the wonderful contribution that both Enid and Danny Dwyer and the St George Masos have made financially in season 2015 and over a number of years previously. Long may their involvement continue. I also thank Todd Sanderson from MI Linings, Watergrill Restaurant at Cronulla RSL, the Guthrie family from Mortgage Choice, Chris Raper, Chris Ryan from AustraIia Post at Edgecliff and Lowes. Our coaching staff led by Club Coach Terry Mudge and supported by Derek Waters, Gavin Raper and Kieran Donohue deserve high praise for their dedication and ability to teach. Support from Football Manager Todd ‘Rabbits” Sanderson and his team of Kev Wilsen, John Addison, Ian Ford and David Tegg was delivered every week. The professional behavior from our physio staff of Jess Calderara, Brett Liu and when called upon Jim Kazaglis made us the envy of most clubs. Many volunteered for football jobs on the weekend but in particular David Watts, Jono Ford and Steven He were regular contributors. There are rumours that Jon Shineberg, Rick Talbot, Shane Demir and Rodney Craig may be retiring. There are the essence of the Dragons’ DNA. They have done a lot more than just play football and are great role models for our younger players. Also legend Steve Wilsen played 200 senior matches during the season adding to his impressive list of achievements. Off the field the achievements were no less impressive. They included: • The further development of the St George Academy • The completion of the terracing in front of the clubhouse • The appointing of Joel Curtis as the club’s sports psychologist and • The start of the St George Development Fund. Our Vice-President Andrew Wynn continues to expand and improve the St George Academy looking after both Under 17 and Under 15 juniors in the St George area. Thank you also to all of his helpers. We were blessed with our canteen ladies, Patricia Jones and Maureen Ford with help from Richard Orton. Not only do they organize a financially successful canteen but they engender a spirit of fun and co-operation into the clubhouse. Thank you to all of you and your helpers. To all of the committee members who run the club in a most professional and unobtrusive way. We certainly need more volunteers to help you but what you do is most appreciated. Finally thanks to the players and your partners and families.

Grand Final— September 27, 2015 MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER As another football season draws to a close, the final day of competition has ar- rived for AFL Sydney with Premier Division Finals here at Henson Park. In an extraordinary result, seven different clubs have won premierships so far, capping off another fantastic season in Sydney’s premier AFL competition. It’s been an exciting year of football for everyone, and well done to those who still remain at the business end of the season. Each year we see AFL Sydney evolve and improve, and we are committed to ensuring that the competi- tion remains a high quality league at the fore of our football community here in NSW/ACT. Our repre- sentative football program was a highlight this year - which included the women’s team both taking on AFL Canberra at Blacktown International Sportspark. We’ve seen six Premierships already decided for 2015; congratulations to all the clubs involved, in par- ticular to the winners of the Women’s Division 1 – Newtown. It was a fantastic weekend of football out at Blacktown, and all the clubs who were involved should be commended for the quality of the matches and the way they were conducted. Congratulations to UTS (Division Five), Wollondilly (Division Four), Sydney University (Division Three) and Blacktown (Division Two) who claimed titles over UNSW/ES, Macquarie University, UTS and Cam- den respectively. Today looks to be another fantastic day of football, and the Premier Division Grand Final between East Coast Eagles, who are in their first year back in AFL Sydney and Pennant Hills, who are making their third consecutive appearance on grand final day, will no doubt be an exciting contest.
