Highlights • On 17 June 2013, AFAD - the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey - announced that the total number of Syrians registered and accommodated in 20 camps in 10 provinces has decreased to 199,083 including 371 Syrians receiving medical treatment in hospitals. AFAD reported that during the last 24hrs (17-18 June), 1,272 new arrival Syrians were registered and accommodated in the camps and 2,194 Syrians voluntarily returned to . • More than 300 new arrivals from Syria are waiting outside camp gates. According to senior AFAD officials, the group recently fled Syria due to deteriorating conditions in their place of origin. Officials indicated to UNHCR that the group will be transferred to Mardin tent site next week. A UNHCR Field Team will visit the Midyat camp to provide advice and expertise on registration, procedures on possible voluntary return in the future. • Local officials informed UNHCR that the capacity of the new tent site currently under construction in Viranshehir town of Sanliurfa province will be increased up-to 20,000. The camp was initially reported to be for 10,000 people. The expected date for the camp to be fully operational is mid July 2013. UNHCR's recently donated tents will be used in Viransehir Camp. • In Karkamis camp of Gaziantep province, camp officials informed UNHCR that spontaneous arrivals approaching the camp have increased recently. Reportedly these new arrivals claim to have relatives in the camp and would like to visit their relatives for a few days but often exceed the permission of their stay. Those who have immediate family members are admitted to remain with their relatives. • Local officials of Karkamis Camp reported to UNHCR team that because the school semester has ended. The Legend school will be used for literacy courses in Arabic for the adults who are illiterate and classes Military Defectors for those who has some level of education. Reportedly there is also very high number of children whose parents requested Quran courses. Such courses are organized in the communal tents in the camp.
