Hi Graduates,

We have a teaching opportunity for you to start your teaching career in a Manitoba school overseas at Heritage International School in 6th of October City, .

Here is your opportunity to start your teaching career and embrace another culture!

There is an opening for: High School Math and Biology

Donna and I are both former educators (administrators and consultants) from a large school division in Winnipeg. We are the recruiting agents and the consultants for the Manitoba curriculum schools overseas.

The Manitoba overseas schools are private schools and have all been approved by the Manitoba government to offer Manitoba curricula, hire Manitoba teachers or principals (or Canadian teachers), and use Manitoba textbooks and classroom supplies and resources. The students want to complete the Manitoba high school program and graduate with a diploma from Manitoba so that they can have the opportunity to enter any university they want in Canada or in the U.S.

We supply the school with textbooks, classroom supplies, resources and library books several times each year.

We make all the travel arrangements for all the teachers. Each year we have teachers fly together to their destination schools and cities.

Please note that every year of teaching in a Manitoba school overseas counts as a year of experience on Manitoba school’s salary scale and year of credited experience.

As the high school programme follows Manitoba provincial curriculum, all teachers must be eligible for teacher certification in the province of Manitoba, Canada. All applicants must hold valid Manitoba teaching certification or be qualified to apply for one. Teachers must be qualified in their subject areas in order to meet Egyptian Ministry of Education hiring standards.

Teachers must be in good general health and have no medical issues; have a blood test to show they are HIV free (World Health dictate) and it is recommended that each teacher have Hep A and B vaccines.

The classes have a maximum of 22 students per class and many classes especially in MY and high school are much smaller. Classes are coed.

Heritage International School is located in 6th of October City, Egypt, about one hour on the freeway from downtown . It is a beautiful and prestigious K-12 private school. This school is in its 8th year, in the shape of an open triangle and with an open central courtyard. It is 4 stories and fully equipped. The school offers Manitoba curricula to Egyptian students who are from wealthy families in and around Cairo. The students graduate from Grade 12 with a Manitoba high school diploma. The first graduating class was June 25, 2013.

We were instrumental in developing this school from the ground up (2006) advising the owners, hiring the first principal who is now the head principal, and hiring all the teaching staff, providing advice on curriculum, textbooks, staff and school policies, resources etc.

Cairo has a population of approximately 22 million people. There is a large expatriate community (Americans, Canadians, British, Australians, Irish, and Germans) in Cairo. There are a number of social clubs for expats and our head principal and some teachers have joined. As well the expat community has its own slow pitch league and other sports and social events. Both areas have shopping malls, department and supermarkets, theatres, sporting events, Gold’s Gym, Starbucks, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Hardees, Chili’s and the most fabulous shopping mall , the Mall of Arabia, is in 6th of October City, with over 200 shops and 80 restaurants. There are golf courses and walking and jogging clubs and much more!

The school year is the same as here in Winnipeg and will start Sept. 3 and ends approx. June 25. The school is closed for all religious holidays: Muslim, Christian and Coptic Christian. There are additional National holidays and a two week holiday over Christmas. The school day is similar as well. The school has small classes as it is growing in school population and the maximum there can be is 22 students per class. The school day is similar to here in Manitoba (8:35 AM to 2:50 PM) and the work week is Sunday to Thursday with Friday and Saturday the weekend days. There are lots of

We have 45 teachers there from Winnipeg and other parts of Canada as well as the High School Principal, Mr. Richard Kraychuk, who is from Winnipeg. There are approx. 500 students in the school. As well, there is a principal for Early Years and one for Middle/High School. Specialty staff includes ESL teachers, Guidance counsellor, Physical Ed., Music, Art teachers, some of whom are Head teachers. There are teacher aides/assistants in the early years.

Teachers live in rent free, fully furnished, spacious, minimum 2 bedroom and 1 bathroom Western style apartments in 6th of October City, within walking distance of the school. Transportation by staff vans is provided daily to and from the school.

Teachers can have their own rent free, furnished and spacious apartments or can share a three or four bedroom apartment/two bathroom apartment with another teacher if they wish. The school HR leases all the apartments for the teachers. Teachers with children receive larger apartments and have their apartments in 6th of October City, close to the school. Utilities are paid for by the teachers and are approximately 100LE or $20.00 per month for electricity (air conditioning).Teachers are picked up and driven to and from their apartments to the schools by vans and drivers. Internet can be installed in the apartments and all the teachers have internet access. Teachers purchase a cell phone upon arrival in Cairo and purchase monthly phone cards. Teachers use Skype to phone back to Canada.

The teachers receive a competitive tax free salary (on a salary grid based upon years of experience), rent free use of a spacious two bedroom furnished apartment, reimbursement for one round-trip economy class airfare per year from home city in Canada, daily transportation to and from work, medical insurance, bonuses, etc.

The cost of living in Cairo is much lower than in Canada; about 1/6 of what it is in Canada, according to the high school principal, Mr. Richard Kraychuk. The school pays $50.00 for the insurance plan premium each month and teachers choose the plan they want. There are two plans to choose form: an inexpensive plan (Egyptian) and a more expensive plan (Canadian). The principal will detail both plans at the orientation week in August and teachers will choose one plan at that time.

Your tax free salary is paid in USD and is paid at the end of each month in 12 month instalments. The first half of the first paycheque is August 31 and the second half is paid
