EG-Helwan South Power Project The Egyptian Natural Gas Company Raven Natural Gas Pipeline ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT June 2019 Final Report Prepared By: 1 ESIA study for RAVEN Pipeline Pipeline Rev. Date Prepared By Description Hend Kesseba, Environmental I 9.12.2018 Specialist Draft I Anan Mohamed, Social Expert Hend Kesseba, Environmental II 27.2.2019 Specialist Final I Anan Mohamed, Social Expert Hend Kesseba, Environmental Final June 2019 Specialist Final II Anan Mohamed, Social Expert 2 ESIA study for Raven Pipeline Executive Summary Introduction The Government of Egypt (GoE) has immediate priorities to increase the use of the natural gas as a clean source of energy and let it the main source of energy through developing natural gas fields and new explorations to meet the national gas demand. The western Mediterranean and the northern Alexandria gas fields are planned to be a part from the national plan and expected to produce 900 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) in 2019. Raven gas field is one of those fields which GASCO (the Egyptian natural gas company) decided to procure, construct and operate a new gas pipeline to transfer rich gas from Raven gas field in north Alexandria to the western desert gas complex (WDGC) and Amreya Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) plant in Alexandria. The extracted gas will be transported through a new gas pipeline, hereunder named ‘’the project’’, with 70 km length and 30’’ inch diameter to WDGC and 5 km length 18” inch diameter to Amreya LPG. The proposed project will be funded from the World Bank(WB) by the excess of fund from the south-helwan project (due to a change in scope of south helwan project, there is loan saving of US$ 74.6 m which GASCO decided to employ it in the proposed project).

  • I'm Here Implementation—El Obour, Greater Cairo, Egypt
I’m Here Implementation—El Obour, Greater Cairo, Egypt Process. Results. Response planning. Drafted by: Omar J. Robles | Sr. Program Officer | Women’s Refugee Commission With key inputs from: Rachael Corbishley | Emergency Program Officer | Save the Children Egypt Summary | Key Steps and Outputs In January 2015, Save the Children Egypt (SC Egypt), with support from the Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC), implemented the I’m Here Approach in El Obour, Egypt. The approach and complementary field tools are designed to help humanitarian actors identify, protect, serve and engage adolescent girls from the start of emergency operations or of program design for girls. SC Egypt is committed to ensuring that its soon-to-open child centered space (CCS) program in El Obour is responsive to adolescent girls. SC Egypt aims to make its child-centered services “accessible for girls and for excluded children …, tailoring activities to meet their specific needs and capacities.”1 Specifically in El Obour, SC Egypt has chosen to adopt a mobile CCS model, which extends programming from a “CCS hub into existing community spaces” such as schools, gardens and community centers.2 I’m Here implementation in El Obour was the first in an urban refugee setting. The process, results and response planning outlined in this report are designed to inform how SC Egypt can fulfill its expressed commitment to not overlook adolescent girls – to account for their context-specific profile, vulnerabilities and capacities. Key steps and outputs. With UNHCR-approved access to registration information for Syrian refugees who live in Greater Cairo, the WRC and SC Egypt modified the I’m Here Approach and tools to safely translate this unique access into actionable info for programmatic decision-making.

Encouraging Peaceful Co-Existence Through a Multi-Faceted Approach Implementing Agency: Plan International Egypt Partners: Syria Al Gad Relief Foundation in Greater Cairo and Islamic Charity Complex Association in Damietta Donor: European Commission- Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Location: Damietta and Qalubia (Greater Cairo) Target Population: Syrian and Egyptian students ages 0 – 18 years Implementation Period: June 1, 2016 - May 31, 2018 Number of Beneficiaries: 3600 children and 60 adults 1200 children, 0 – 5 years 1900 children, 6 – 12 years 500 children, 13 – 18 years 60 teachers and school management Background The violence in Syria has seen over 2.2 million child refugees fleeing to other countries, and 6 million children in need of assistance, including 2.8 million displaced, inside Syria. UNHCR reports that circa 51,000 Syrian child refugees registered, 1,600 of them are separated, all in need of assistance. The initial findings of an on-going UNHCR-led survey show that between 20 and 30 percent of Syrian refugee children in Egypt are out of school, compared to 12 percent in 2014. Damietta and Qalubia are two of the governorates with high numbers of Syrian refugees and limited humanitarian support. In response, Plan International (Plan) set up an office in Damietta to help Syrian children to fulfill their right to education and integrate in host communities. Plan’s Qalubia sub-office has been supporting public schools to accept and cater for the needs of refugee children. In this action, Plan is working with the Ministry of Education to integrate 7,590 Syrian refugee children aged 0-18 years in six communities of the Damietta and Qalubia governorates, promoting a safe and socially inclusive environment and supporting their smooth integration in host communities.

Non-carcinogenic risks induced by ingestion of THMs were exceed the tolerable level (10-6). Data obtained in this research demonstrate that exposure to drinking water contaminants and associated risks were higher than the acceptable level. Keywords: Drinking water; Risk; Trihalomethanes; Cairo routes. • New Neighborhood Power
REPORT WORLD New Neighborhood Power Informal Popular Committees and Changing Local Governance in Egypt FEBRUARY 7, 2017 — CILJA HARDERS AND DINA WAHBA PAGE 1 After the uprising of 2011, new forms of political participation emerged, among them the popular committees (lijan sha’abiyah). Initially convened mainly to ensure security at the neighborhood level, the committees came to life after the withdrawal of police forces from the public in Cairo, Alexandria, Suez, Port Said, and many towns of the Nile Delta. After the initial eighteen days of the Egyptian revolution, the popular committees expanded their activities and, in different ways in different places, became vehicles to advocate for local needs through informal and formal channels. To a limited degree, the committees gave voice to groups and individuals that had been marginalized. Drawing on original fieldwork in several neighborhoods of Cairo and Giza, the authors argue that the committees embody a new form of political participation in Egypt, which has endured despite the country’s sharp return to authoritarianism. Although the committee are varied and imperfectly democratic, they are a dividend of the revolution that will continue to be relevant in Egypt’s political future. In the night of January 28, 2011, as police forces retreated from the public after massive attacks on police stations all over Egypt, an unprecedented form of local political organization was born.1 Residents in both poor and rich areas of Cairo and other cities drew on their neighborhood networks to form so-called “popular committees.” The groups’ first and foremost aim was safeguarding their lives and assets under circumstances of extreme uncertainty and the threat of repression.
