In 1988-89, the building was converted for the use of the Royal Danish Naval Museum with the aid ofa magnificent donation from »TheA.P. Moller and Mrs. Chastine Meersk. Mckinney Moller's Foundation for General Purposes". The building was constructed in 1780 by master builder Schotmann. When it was handed over to the Royal Danish Naval Museum, the building passed from the responsibility of the Ministry of Defence to that of the Ministry of Culture. To better understand if the recent glacier behavior is abnormal, we use maps, photos, and documentary data from 20th century expedition reports to document if similar glacier response occurred during an analogous warm period beginning in the 1920s. Analyzed together with existing published data, I find that the years containing the greatest proportion of retreating land terminating glaciers over a 90 year record (1870-1960) were 1920-1940 and that of marine terminating glaciers were 1930-1950 over a 140 year record (1850-1990). Furthermore, four marine terminating length change records show rapid length changes concurrent with anomalously high annual air temperatures, all occurring between 1923 and 1946. Thus, the recent precisely-documented Greenland glacier recession can be regarded as a case of a highly sensitive system useful in indicating climate change. 2 Introduction It had been conventional thought among glaciologist that ice sheet sensitivity to climate operates only on time scales of centuries to millennia.

ARCTIC RIFT COPPER Part of world’s newest metallogenic province: Kiffaanngissuseq Technical Assessment Report Greenfields Exploration Ltd November 2020 This report presents a holistic view of north eastern Greenland’s geology. The empirical evidence of mineralisation and geological record are tied in with mineral system components from global through to prospect scales. The source rocks, geodynamic triggers, pathways, and deposition sites are all identified within a preserved terrane. This work defines the Kiffaanngissuseq metallogenic province, a previously undescribed mineral system. For the first time, we identify a c. 1,250 Ma orogenic event in the basement as the geodynamic trigger related to the basalt- hosted native copper within the Arctic Rift Copper project. A c. 385 Ma fluid migration is identified as the trigger for a second copper-sulphide mineralising event expressed within the project, that also emplaced a distal zinc deposit within Kiffaanngissuseq. This multi-episodal mineral system is supported by a regional geochemical and hydrodynamic framework that is not articulated elsewhere.

The history of the explordtion of the Central Arctic Ocean is reviewed.It has been only within the last 15 years that any signifi- cant number of depth-sounding data have been collected.The present study uses seven million echo soundings collected by U. S. Navy nuclear submarines along nearly 40, 000 km of track to construct, for the first time, a reasonably complete picture of the physiography of the basin of the Arctic Ocean.The use of nuclear submarines as under-ice survey ships is discussed. The physiography of the entire Arctic basin and of each of the major features in the basin are described, illustrated and named. The dominant ocean floor features are three mountain ranges, generally paralleling each other and the 40°E. 140°W. meridian. From the Pacific- side of the Arctic basin toward the Atlantic, they are: The Alpha Cordillera; The Lomonosov Ridge; andThe Nansen Cordillera. The Alpha Cordillera is the widest of the three mountain ranges. It abuts the continental slopes off the Canadian Archipelago and off Asia across more than550of longitude on each slope.Its minimum width of about 300 km is located midway between North America and Asia.In cross section, the Alpha Cordillera is a broad arch rising about two km, above the floor of the basin.The arch is marked by volcanoes and regions of "high fractured plateau, and by scarps500to 1000 meters high.The small number of data from seismology, heat flow, magnetics and gravity studies are reviewed.The Alpha Cordillera is interpreted to be an inactive mid-ocean ridge which has undergone some subsidence.

We recorded a large range of group sizes from 1 to 135 individuals, as well as a substantial variation in hare densities among the three sites (Hall land: 0 animals / 100 km2, Washington land 14.5-186.7 animals / 100 km2, Judge Daly Promontory 0.18-2.95 animals / 100 km2).

Smultea2 (Received 29 June 2017; accepted in revised form 30 May 2018) ABSTRACT. Ice-associated seals are considered especially susceptible and are potentially the first to modify distribution and habitat use in response to physical changes associated with the changing climate. Petermann Glacier, part of a unique ice-tongue fjord environment in a rarely studied region of northwestern Greenland, lost substantial sections of its ice tongue during major 2010 and 2012 calving events. As a result, changes in seal habitat may have occurred. Seal occurrence and distribution data were collected in Petermann Fjord and adjacent Nares Strait region over 27 days (2 to 28 August) during the multidisciplinary scientific Petermann 2015 Expedition on the icebreaker Oden. During 239.4 hours of dedicated observation effort, a total of 312 individuals were recorded, representing four species: bearded seal (Erignathus barbatus), hooded seal (Crystophora cristata), harp seal (Pagophilus groenlandicus), and ringed seal (Pusa hispida). Ringed seals were recorded significantly more than the other species (χ2 = 347.4, df = 3, p < 0.001, n = 307). We found significant differences between species in haul-out (resting on ice) behavior (χ2 = 133.1, df = 3, p < 0.001, n = 307). Bearded seals were more frequently hauled out (73.1% n = 49), whereas ringed seals were almost exclusively in water (93.9%, n = 200).
