The OCTOPUS II switches were installed on many of SBB’s cars, including the newest and first high-speed trains named GIRUNO/EC250 and will also be installed on the refurbished FLIRT first-generation DTZ and GTW models. Designed and manufactured by Stadler Rail CH, the first train was delivered to SBB in May of 2017 for testing and approval, and will be rolled out through 2023. The train services the Gotthard line, starting in Basel or Zurich, Switzerland, and traveling through the Gotthard Base Tunnel to its current destination in Milan, Italy.

Product Details

To create a future-proof Ethernet network, the Hirschmann OCTOPUS II switches were chosen for SBB’s rail cars. The solution used the OS34 and OS30 devices to coordinate and control data flow inside individual cars and throughout the train.
