SCUBA DVING IN PUERTO GALERA Puerto Galera offers divers a varied range of dive sites. The local sites within five minutes of the resort are a mix of muck and reef dives, with the reef dives done as either drift dives or simple back and forth approach depend- ingon the . Day trips to Verde Island are not to be missed, you will dive a large sloping wall covered in soft . You can see large schools of jacks, snakes, frog fish and many nudibranchs. There are many reef dives available for advanced divers with faster drifts that occur due to the underwater topography and tidal movement in the area. The Alma Jane artificial wreck in Sabang Bay is a great early morning dive, it is 45m long and at a max depth of 31m. There is great opportunity to experience massive diversity at this location with a mix of reef, wreck, pelagic and . This really is an outstanding and range full dive destination.

CAMERA / DIVE FACILITIES Puerto Galera has a spacious climate-controlled camera room for comfortable pre-dive camera preparation. The room has 30 cubby holes for individual storage during your holiday. There are air guns distributed around the room as well as power sockets (110 and 220 volts) and paper towel dispensers. A shelf running the length of the work surface provides space for battery chargers. Six fluorescent wall lights provided additional illumina- tion. SCUBA DVING IN DUMAGUETE/DAUIN Dumaguete, or Dauin as the location is often referred to, offers some of the best macro dives in the world. The black volcanic sand in the area is home to a massive range of critters. The formidable dive guides will chaper- one you through a somewhat amazing dive experience. The guide’s skill to know the local habitats of those hard to find tiny creatures is absolutely paramount when visiting a place like this. Further afield dive sites at Apo Island are deeper walls and will stir up excitement as you dive to see some larger pelagic animals, schools of jacks and . TOKO’S RESTAURANT & BEACH BAR Toko’s in Dumaguete is set alongside the bar offering a great socialising atmosphere. You can choose to eat al fresco and take in the beach breeze or find a quiet corner with your loved one. The welcome is always warm and the bar friendly, the perfect place to head for a pre-dinner drink. The food quality remains consistent with that noted earlier in the Puerto Galera section. The blackboard offering always creates a difficulty as to which dish to choose. The a la carte menu offers the same dishes in both resorts making it a home from home experience for regulars to have their favourite dishes. Guests and our staff highly recommend the food, the ingredients are fresh and meals of a high standard.

BOARD BASIS We recommend when staying at the Dumaguete resort to book on a half board basis as there are less options to eat out locally. The town is around 40 minutes by car and does offer eating options which we would recommend for one night of the trip so your see the local town. TUBBATAHA ROUTE An UNESCO World Heritage site only accessible by liveaboard three months of the year. These pristine reefs, located 100 miles offshore, are protected by rangers year-round and made up of North and South Atolls and Jessie Beazley atoll, divers can experience wonderful visibility and some of the best diving in the Philippines. NORTHERN TIP OF NORTH ATOLL Fissures and crevices lead into it where nurse and whitetip reef sharks can be found resting. Small manta rays, stingrays and spotted eagle rays have all been spotted. Blacktip, whitetip and grey reef sharks can normally be spotted in numbers.

SOUTHERN END OF NORTH ATOLL Fans of macro will enjoy these sites with Denise pygmy seahorses clinging to the sea fans, see scorpion fish, moray eels and even ghost pipefish. You can still see huge dogtooth tuna, sharks and spanish makerel in the blue.

NORTHERN TIP OF SOUTH ATOLL Includes Black Rock, T Wreck and Eiger Wall. Green and hawksbill turtles in the area, look out for marble stingrays in the sand. Eagle rays often cruise by and expect to see large grouper and giant trevally.

SOUTHERN END OF SOUTH ATOLL This area is known for its lighthouse and is home to famous dive sites Delsan Wreck and Black Rock. Hammerheads are the most prized sighting here as well as occasional whale sharks passing by. Look out for guitar sharks in the shallows.

SOUTH END OF NORTH ATOLL The dive starts on a gentle slope that is covered in superb molested corals and ends with a wall covered with dramatic gorgonian fans. If there’s current, you’ll come across a wide variety of large fish.

JESSIE BEAZLEY REEF Here you can see schools of bump head parrotfish munching on the corals. Watch out for inquisitive napoleon wrasse. The shallow reefs are full of colourful tropical fish like the regal angelfish and titan triggerfish.

BALICASAG ISLAND A flat island four kilometres southwest of the Duljo Point; the sandy coralline beach is a site to behold. Look out for jacks, mackerel and barra- cudas often seen in abundance as well as large groupers, napoleon wrasses and snappers.

PANGLAO ISLAND Bohol is the tenth largest island of the Philippines and lies in the middle of the Visayas. Look out for turtles, whitetip and blacktip reef sharks, eagle and manta rays, schooling and thorny seahorses, plus many species of nudibranch.

ANILAO One of the most famous dive sites in the Phil- ippines for macro subjects. We will explore the wonders of secret bay, where over 300 species of nudibranch have been discovered. The Twin Rocks where you can be surrounded by school of jacks and other colourful reef fish.

APO REEF Shark Ridge is a great place to see white tip and blacktip reef sharks. Manta rays, hawksbill turtles and bump head are sometimes spotted here. Binangaan drop off is another fantastic location. Look out for spotted eagle rays and other pelagic species.

CORON - OKIKAWA & OLIMPIA MARU The largest of the shipwrecks is the Okikawa Maru, this ship is 160 meters long and was sunk by a direct hit on the bow area. Another massive wreck is the 120-meter Olympia Maru, check out the cargo holds here and enjoy the schools of batfish and fusiliers that engulf divers.

CORON - WRECKS - TANGAT GUNBOAT Our day typically begins with the Japanese freighter, 140-meter-long, the two main boilers are the main attraction. Hard coral and scorpion fish can be spotted. The East Tangat Gunboat is also a great attraction, ideal for divers of any experience.

CORON - AKITSUSIMA & IRAKO The wreck of the sea plane tender Akitsusima is a highlight of the in Coron. The ship took a different hit on the stern and sunk imme- diately. The Irako is another awe-inspiring wreck, explore the galley areas where pots and pans are visible. This 147-meter-long vessel was a refrigeration ship for the Japanese Imperial Navy before she was sunk in September 1944.
