  • Slavic Touch from the Heart of Europe but to Freely Draw on Each of Them, in the Hope of finding One of Her Own
Anna Maria Jopek - composer, arranger and singer with respectful, honorable carrier has sold one million records and collaborated with the most outstanding musicians - Pat Metheny, Bobbi Mc Ferrin, Ivan Lins, Youssou N'Dour, Makoto Ozone, Richard Bona and others. AMJ has been faithful to Polish musical tradition since her very first album and all along her solo career. As AMJ says: 'music itself has always been my prime concern. It is the great challenge to face the audience that does not understand Polish and does not know me at all. It's a lesson in humility, in sheer communication through sound. We can win, we can fail, but we have to be absolutely honest and pure when it comes to making music.' For seventeen years Anna Maria Jopek studied classical music. At the same time, at home was surrounded by traditional music, her parents being active in Poland's famous folk ensemble Mazowsze. However, AMJ decided to bestow her affection on jazz, with its wide-ranging scope, its openness to so many diverse influences, with the constant intimate dialogue between performing musicians that it entails. And finally it happened. Anna Maria Jopek Today AMJ chooses not to belong to any of these worlds, Slavic Touch from the Heart of Europe but to freely draw on each of them, in the hope of finding one of her own. ’Just thirty seconds of Anna’s tune belong to the most beautiful music I’ve heard in months’ ‘Anna is original, unique, different. She’s brace, she’s modest, she’s open. She’s a great musician.

  • Dhafer Youssef Vine La Jazztm 2016
• Dhafer Youssef Is a Tunisian Oud Player, Vocalist and Composer Born in November 19Th, 1967 in Teboulba
Dhafer Youssef is a Tunisian Oud player, vocalist and composer born in November 19th, 1967 in Teboulba. The son of a modest family from this Tunisian Center-Eastern fishing village, he comes from a long line of muezzins. Mastering vocal performances is to him a heritage and a family tradition. At an early age, his grandfather initiates him to quranic recitals. He starts discovering the potential of his voice and finds his calling. Far from quranic school benches and his grandfather’s hard discipline, Dhafer Youssef tests his voice singing the songs played on his mother’s radio set. His mother’s kitchen becomes his first experimental laboratory, away from rigorist methods. At the age of 6, he discovers the echo of his voice and its resonances. He remembers spending hours singing in the Hammam of the local village. The resonances produced by his voice in that cavernous place fascinate him, nourishing his ardent juvenile curiosity: young Dhafer discovers his favorite toy. Moved by the child’s beautiful voice, the local muezzin encourages him to record the call to prayer for the village’s mosque. Dhafer undertakes the task using a cheap plastic microphone. His voice flows from the top of the minaret. Its resonances gain altitude. It is his first encounter with an audience, an experience that will remain engraved in his memory seven studio albums and hundreds of world live performances later. A few years later, Dhafer Youssef joins the local liturgical song troupe as a vocalist. However, this experience does not last long because of the increasing politicization of the group’s activities.

  • Sabato 21 Nov-Dhafer Youssef, Uno Dei Musicisti Tunisini Piu’ Apprezzati Al Mondo, a Sacile (Pn)
