A New History of Clan MacMillan published in April 2016
Graeme Mackenzie’s new work is a fully illustrated chronological account of the MacMillans’ history written for the general clan reader, along with basic information about septs, symbols, tartans, heraldry etc.
It is backed up with a supplementary volume containing more detailed and fully referenced accounts of certain parts of MacMillan history, the sources for that history and the origin of the name, along with additional information about the clan’s sept and related names, examples of Project MAOL in action, and lists of M’millans recorded between 1132 and 1800.
Both volumes are Crown Quarto size (approx. 10” x 7½”). The Standard Edition of the New History contains 209 pages plus the index (the Special Edition will contain an additional four pages of tartan illustrations). The New History has an Introduction, a Preface, 8 Chapters, a Bibliography, 11 Appendices, 9 Maps, 11 Family Trees, and 33 non-photographic illustrations. Details of the chapter headings, and the full list of appendices, are given overleaf. Of the 129 photographs in the New History, 96 are colour photos which will be reproduced in black and white in the Standard Edition—but will be available in colour in the Special Edition. The covers are in colour—shown above and below—allowing the back cover of the Standard Edition to illustrate the basic tartans and the main arms born by clan members (below left).
