We’ve managed 3 games in 11 days which has been a tough ask for this end of the season, but what an 11 days! First up we had PNM in the Knockout Cup Quarter Final. Leading up to this game we’d won a game apiece, and drawn 1-1 so it was always going to be a tight game. These games are always tough physical battles and this was no exception. Both teams were throwing everything they had into it, which was reflected in the half time score of 0-0. The second 45 was just as tough as the first, and we managed to get on the score sheet when PNM gave the ball away in their defensive third and Lena de Ronde capitalised by driving a cross into the 6 yard box and Emma Main nipped in front of her defender to tuck the ball away. 1-0. PNM are the sort of team that never gives up, and they struck back after a ball over the top was picked up by their striker and they slotted the ball into the far post tying the game up 1-1. Cup matches need a result, and so into extra time we went. Both teams were showing the effects of a long hard tussle, but through sheer grit and determination we pushed forward, and sent a cross into the box for Lena de Ronde to pop up at the far post driving the ball into the net to take us 2-1 up.

Two-and-a-half months later Wthan normal, but great to have a full season ahead of us playing through to October. The last few months have been crazy and I do hope everyone has kept active and well during this period. I also hope our Men’s and Women’s First Team squads have kept up their fitness, which they all worked so hard on up to lockdown – we’ll see how they hold up in the next few weeks :-) The club has assembled a great Men’s squad again who will be tested in the Central League this year and, as always, our ambition is to do well backing up our glorious promotion success last year. We welcome back old and new players to our squad as well as our new First Team coach Charlie Howe and his assistant Kieran Cripps. Our Women’s W-League Team has been strengthened with some new players enhancing our solid base from last year. We have strong ambition to also do well in the W-League and with coach Kevin Torres we are excited about the year ahead. We have had a good start, last week beating Wellington United 1-0 in the quarterfinal of the Kelly Cup – a good sign of things to come. Wednesday sees 17 matches being played around the country with the preliminary round finishing off on Saturday 28th with 9 matches. This year marks the 91st edition of the cup, with the final being held at QBE Stadium in Auckland. “The ISPS Handa Chatham Cup has been the centrepiece of the domestic winter football schedule for over 90 years.     9/17 Takapuna AFC Welcomes Central United 24 June 2017 Club History Sponsors Welcome/President’s Report On behalf of the Takapuna Committee I welcome you all to Taharoto Park for today’s match against Central United for Takapuna AFC third game of the ISPS HANDA Chatham Cup. I would like to extend a warm welcome to Aaron McFarland, his management team, players and supporters from Central United. Today’s Chatham cup match will bring a change of emphasis from league competition. These cup games are important to players which gives them the opportunity to compete against some top class players which we will see many in the Central squad today. The last time the two teams met was during the 2004 season, the last sixteen teams left in the Chatham Cup. Both teams have improved their performances in their respective leagues over the past four weeks keeping in touch with the league leaders. I am sure both coaches will look to continue on with their winning streak so we are in for an exciting game as we play a similar style of attacking football so if the weather holds and the pitch remains dry we could see a few goals. Whichever team wins today, will look forward to the next round hoping for a home game and the loser will concentrate on improving their league position. Good luck over the weekend to all Takapuna teams, hopefully your 2017 campaigns will have you league winners in 10 weeks’ time.
