9/17 Takapuna AFC Welcomes Central United 24 June 2017 Club History Sponsors Welcome/President’s Report On behalf of the Takapuna Committee I welcome you all to Taharoto Park for today’s match against Central United for Takapuna AFC third game of the ISPS HANDA Chatham Cup. I would like to extend a warm welcome to Aaron McFarland, his management team, players and supporters from Central United. Today’s Chatham cup match will bring a change of emphasis from league competition. These cup games are important to players which gives them the opportunity to compete against some top class players which we will see many in the Central squad today. The last time the two teams met was during the 2004 season, the last sixteen teams left in the Chatham Cup. Both teams have improved their performances in their respective leagues over the past four weeks keeping in touch with the league leaders. I am sure both coaches will look to continue on with their winning streak so we are in for an exciting game as we play a similar style of attacking football so if the weather holds and the pitch remains dry we could see a few goals. Whichever team wins today, will look forward to the next round hoping for a home game and the loser will concentrate on improving their league position. Good luck over the weekend to all Takapuna teams, hopefully your 2017 campaigns will have you league winners in 10 weeks’ time. Please enjoy today’s game and I sincerely hope that you will experience the hospitality on offer during the day and then join with members from both clubs in the clubhouse after the game for the post match player awards and socially relax in the excellent facilities we have to offer Wayne Hallford President Club News In Memory – Chris McKeown Last week, the club lost one of its great characters and loyal servants. Chris McKeown was a member of Takapuna for almost 40 years. He coached at the club at many levels, from midget grades, through teenage teams, and on up to his biggest achievement in the club, coaching the Reserves to a league championship. Both his boys also played for the club. Chris also featured on a regular basis for both the FARTS and the Scousers teams. In 2006, Chris started a Dads’n’Lads team to play in the Takapuna Summer Sevens Tournament, and provided many of the older club players, such as Pete Charles, Alex McGowan, Pete Kilhams, Andy Hamilton, Ian Tinsley, Wayne Hallford, Kevin Hagan and Paul Gerrard with the opportunity to play alongside their kids. A stalwart of the club, Chris also helped fix issues with the kitchen, freezers and aircon over the years. I’m sure everyone in the club would like to join in and send our condolences to his wife Stella, and kids Nicky, Sean and Liam. Paul Gerrard 1st Team Report View from the Dugout Good afternoon everyone and a very warm welcome to Aaron McFarland, his management team, players and supporters from Kiwitea St who have made the trip to the North Shore for this Chatham Cup game. I was very happy with the result and our performance at Onehunga Mangere last Saturday but more than that just the fantastic attitude the players have for this club and the team. A number of players performed last week and the result was clear for all to see. The work and effort the lads put in when we are out of possession is fantastic and that has been evident in the second half of the season with four straight wins that are setting us up for a storming run in to league. Onehunga Mangere, I’m afraid, are not a good side and it was a game that we won at a canter but today will be very different with Central Utd arriving at Taharoto Park. Central have some of the best players in New Zealand on their books and they will be a totally different kettle of fish that’s for sure. If our game is not right or professional we will be punished and rightly so. If we want to make promotion and these games will give the team a real boost when we return to our league duties and I’m sure all the lads will be eager to test themselves against a team two divisions above although we have many who have played there themselves. I’m sure Aaron was disappointed at last Saturdays result against Bay Olympic which will stir up his lads to get a good result today and I’m sure we will have a big say in that and we are looking forward to the stiff challenge. Central are one of the big names of New Zealand football and I remember some big games in front of large crowds against them from my time at East Coast Bays and Forrest Hill. They continue to receive excellent support both home and away and I am sure it will be a good atmosphere here today, it is up to our players to respond to that. We hope to see our loyal group of fans at our difficult away game next week but if not then back here in two weeks’ time for the Te Atatu Game. Enjoy the game. UP THE TAKA BOYS! Joe Daw Reserve Team Report Onehunga Mangere After a far from optimal start to the season the reserves seem to have finally found their feet and managed to string together some results in the last few games. Hopefully we can maintain this momentum throughout the rest of the season and without a single away win everyone was excited by the prospect of a much needed three points. The pitch was one of the smallest we’ve played on this season and without much space we really struggled to get our passing game going and it quickly became a physical and scrappy game. Onehunga Mangere clearly well suited to the small pitch were pressing well and prevented any easy passes out of defence. Apart from a few half chances from crosses we struggled to create any goal scoring opportunities during the first half an hour. Onehunga Mangere continued their aggression and were awarded a goal when they took a quick corner that rebounded awkwardly off of one of our defenders into the net. Compared to recent games thing were really not going our way and at half time we were 1-0 down. The second half was much of the same initially but after about twenty minutes we started to pick up the pace and played with some determination that was really lacking in the first half and this lead to a hand ball in the area by one of the Onehunga Mangere players and the penalty was calmly put away to draw the score level at 1-1. Rather than just take the away point we really pushed for the last quarter of the game and played with a real sense of grit and determination. This hard work paid off and in the dying minutes we managed to score a header sealing the game 2-1 to Takapuna and a deserved first away win. This game was in stark contrast to the impressive football we have played recently but we adjusted our game and gained an ugly three points by battling to the final minutes. If we keep this standard up for the remaining games hopefully we can turn this season around with a respectable finish. Up the ‘Puna!! Lewis NFF News LOCAL BOARD PLAN CONSULTATION & SUBMISSIONS To NFF Club Members As CEO, I am taking the unprecedented step of writing directly to all NFF Club members regarding an important Lo- cal Board consultation process that will impact our sport, your clubs and the fields and facilities you use to play foot- ball. Local Board Plans Consultation Every three years Auckland’s 21 Local Boards develop a Local Board Plan, which help guide decisions on local ac- tivities and projects. These Plans reflect the community’s priorities and preferences and influence how Local Boards work with others for the benefit of Auckland’s communities. They also influence how local boards provide input into Auckland Council’s regional strategies and plans, such as the 10-year budget. The NFF region encompasses eight Local Boards and in order to maintain and improve the provision of facilities for our sport it is important that NFF, Clubs and individual members engage with the process and make submissions to Local Boards. What do our Local Boards Say About Sport & Recreation? NFF has reviewed all eight Local board plans, five currently include sport & recreation provision as a key outcome of their plan. Three Local Boards do not have sport & recreation included in their plan, Devonport & Takapuna, Waitakere Ranges and Whau. This affects 3,400 players from clubs such as North Shore Utd, Takapuna, Forrest Hill Milford, Oratia Utd, Glen Eden Utd and West Auckland. Why should I make a submission? Your club is located where the Local Board Plan does not include Sport & Recreation as a key outcome! The quality of the fields and facilities you use are at risk! Your Local board, and the Council, may reduce funding further into these areas and the current quality of facilities may decline further. The number of submissions supporting each part of the plan does impact on the next stages. You cannot afford to be passive in this process if you want to maintain or improve the current provision of facilities in our Federation.
