Last Match Programme from me, for a while folks, am heading out of town. but I’m sure that Sean and the lads will keep you all well informed and up to date eh ? Special thanks to all who pitched in and made this Unique programme - there’s nothing else like it elsewhere in Rab Enzed - full of Info and in some cases pure funny fiction and baloney. We had new Scribes pitching in, well done the Central newcomers Ostrich man from Alex our Colin Foster and Leon Roode from Mt Aspiring College, and the Chatham Cup medalist Ian Bell - great stuff. Plus the Grants Braes club and scribe who punched well above their weight - and hows about them starting Tago’s First Beach Football tourney - well done guys... Then there was the raucous Plainsmen and Nevinho plus those bloody Vuvuzelas ( I spell it differently each time ...) Super effort in supporting our national League side Otago United - oops southern united who were occasionally mistaken for a netball, or shinty side from http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/Stewart Island. http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ FOYDAT I had a lot of fun watching Haka Futsal too. With what looked like an ordinary team, coach Darren Hart did a fine job, and should have won the Championship after really good results in the ‘League’ part of the competition - Good Luck next time out. Me old mate Neil soldiered on with his fresh intake of Milk Cup lads. Not many coaches get up at the crack of Dawn ( for 14 years on the trot...) doing Gym and Plyometric sessions before 7 am. The clock is ticking for them too, they play several top sides around Manchester, before the Cup proper, which starts on 23 July for five days of exhilarating competition against some exotic teams. The official Draw will take place on 30th May. Who knows which teams our lads will be drawn against eh? They’ve faced all sorts from South Americans to Russians and even the national team of Japan one year ( a meritorious 0-1 loss, which we could have won - mais C’est la vie, as they say in Dunedin Sud ... good luck to all

Page 3 Rab Boyens Coaching Session Lets hope that FDO Paul O’Reilly can attract as many to his new Bootroom early morning gatherings - as Andy Boyen’s did recently , when more than forty bods turned up to hear his Youth Framework spiel and the practical session afterwards at Logan park.

Page 4 The Roslyn Premier Women were welcomed by James and The Uni Premier Women to the Cale in the latest game of the league. This was set to be a tough one, both teams coming into the game with 2 wins and a loss. Yet another early sub this week for us as Sammy came off in side the first 10min. No need to fear as our girls were firing today, in a very even match up. We lead 4-1 at the half, we knew Uni still had plenty in them, and they got another just after half time but we were clinical in front of goal and took a 7 - 2 victory. Goals going to Alex, Sam B, Holly J with a brace and Renee with a hat trick. Player of the Day went to Holly White after really stepping up this week in the midfield. Our next match we face Uni on the Monday but thishttp://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ time in the KO Cup! http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ HamsterMan

Page 6 King’s took on Kavanagh College at the Oval, on Wednesday. The game was played at a fast pace with plenty of passion shown from both teams. Chances were created at both ends of the park, with King's guilty of squandering a number of clear chances while the Kavanagh goalkeeper kept his team in the game. With the scores tied 0-0 at half time the game was there for the taking. The second half saw a few changes made and the game opened up. Kavanagh took the lead through a deflected shot. King’s then won a corner and a goal mouth scramble saw an own goal, 1-1. Then with 5 minutes to play Kavanagh launched a counter-attack and scored. End result, 2-1 to Kavanagh. Aaron

A well contested School match, get along on Wednesdays and have a look.. http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ FOYDAT 2017

The undoubted highlight of the day was the first winWelcome of the season back, Ben for Tel'sKiore Fletcher Cup boys, and it was all the sweeter coming against the experienced table-topping Tech side that belted us in the opening week. Our game plan seemed to frustrate Tech who were perhaps expecting another walk in the park. On his surprise return to the club, effervescent quinquagenarian Phil Kelly was excellent, but it was his "junior" strike partner Damo who scored a sublime tap-in for the only goal of the game. Young defender Oscar was superb in keepingPrem. the League league's top Backingscorer anonymous, Boosts and Josh Lucas picked up POD for an energetic performance, despiteSuperCupNI seeing red! Can't blame our guys for being a bit excited after that, Tech did ask if we had just won Phils the FA Cup final - no lads, that was the mighty Arse, Brain giddy up! Scan The news wasn't as good for our Men's Prems, who conceded a very late goal to go down to Required brain scan, was OK Green Island 1-2 at Sunnyvale. Ten opened the just needs pumping up a bit scoring early on but the home side equalised seconds later, and then it was a real tussle until GI bundled in the winner. To be fair we werehttp://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ lacking a bit of spark in the second half and GI just about deserved the 3 points. PODhttp://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ went to Jack Pirie, he's played every minute for us this season and along with Harley has been a real calming influence on the pitch. Our Thirds expected a niggly match against Melchester Rovers and that's what they got, so were happy enough to come away with a 1-1 draw. After going behind, Al Black converted a penalty in the second half to grab the point. Young Paddy Ou picked up POD for a committed effort, and thanks to Dusty for keeping things from boiling over! 1888's kept their run of form going with a big 5-1 win over Northern. It was a great second half after a 1-1 deadlock at halftime. Goals went to Matt (x2), Alan, Andy, and an oggie, but it was Phil Lyndom who picked up POD for his efforts down the flank - Lippy claimed Phil had ran his arse off, Page 9 guessing it must just be a figure of speech though Phil? Mustangs faced a Grants Braes side that only bothered to have 8 players show up. Somehow Braes managed to open the scoring before the 'Stangs took control. After dishing up rubbish towards our ref in the first half, we didn't hesitate to ensure they reffed the second half... putting them down to 7 players. We should have probably scored 20 but a 4-1 win will do - Shaz bagged a brace, and Patrick and Eddy got one each. POD went to rookie keeper Steve who just gets better every week. Chargers were wondering whether GI students were going to bother to turn up to Walton Park at all, when they did eventually turn up 5 minutes before kickoff, it then took them a painful 20 minutes to put the nets up... and we weren't close to our best on an awkward field, not taking our own chances and then a couple of keeper gaffes leading to both their goals in a 1-2 loss - although the penalty they awarded was one of the stupidest decisions I've ever seen. Rob grabbed our goal, and Liam and Tim were both excellent in defence. Matty Aitken picked up POD for doing exactly what Fozz told him to, obviously something Fozz isn't used to. Originals went up against a good Highgate Hobbits side and went down 0-1 in a tough game. Chopper was decent at fullback and was POD, and lay off the Shorty Street Pete! Colts had a big 7-1 win over Mosgiel on the postage stamp, with all of the goals coming in the first half. Postman Pat was bloody good again and was POD. Moas had the bye. In the big women's derby match, new side the Kaimanawas had the daunting task of facing the in-form Rogues. No surprise that the Rogues came away with an 8-0 win, but the Kai's put up an awesome effort in a game that "wasn't an absolute bitch-fest" (Shirlene's words, not mine!). The Kai's awarded Beth, like many of the girls new to the sport this season, POD, and in a nice gesture the Rogues awarded their POD to the opposition keeper Hannah who was covered in mud from head to toe! Meanwhile the Shetlands had a good 4-0 win over Green Island. It was their first match since their coach Mike Court passed away, so it was a really emotional affair - but getting the 3 points was the perfect send-off, well done girls. Trainings are on Fridays from 4pm. This year we have two female teams (for the first time) and their training is going really well with Coral Seath (u19) and Jenna Reddy (u15) coaching this year. The males also look good with Michael Sannum (pic Rt ) (u19), Michael Taylor (u16) and Matthew Fallows (u14) taking the reigns. This week sees us confirming and completing our planning for the Masters Games in February, which last year attracted a record number of 11-a-side teams, and we hope to make Futsal a popular component again. Finally, our Futsal National League entry is due so we’ll be submitting our entry and confirming the plans soon. Football Development - Otago On Monday night we had a coaching workshop with Andy Boyens, who dropped in at short notice whilst he’s down for his son’s christening. On Thursday Danny Ledwith and Andy Mulligan have a PALS day at the Edgar Centre which is a day teaching high school students some coaching skills, games and drills for them to take back and utilise in their own schools coaching. Onhttp://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ Sunday FTC is set to begin for term 2 with a camp session, withhttp://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ it working around the Green Island 7’s tournament which is rescheduled for this Sunday. Danny Ledwith and Paul O’Reilly will also be helping out with the Mike Cup squad this weekend. On top of this we also have a number of club support meetings in the evenings, with us aiming to get to more coach education, workshops and other programmes underway. We have several sessions in schools this week, with Andy Mulligan, Danny Furlong and Eric Molloy heading off North East Valley, Carisbrook, Balclutha Primary, George Street, Queens, Port Chalmers and Macandrew Bay all on the schedule to get some fun coaching. Referee Development Jeff Clamp heads to Timaru on Wednesday with his continued drive to recruit more referees and offer more development opportunities, this includes some advertising through the Timaru Herald, and Community Based Referees course being run in the evening.

Page 27 This weekend, we have 3 referees and an assessor coming from , and 3 of our referees (Calvin Berg, Jack Cowie, Mark Dungey) off to Christchurch as part of our exchange programme.

Women’s Development With Tessa back from ankle operation she’s getting stuck into her new role. The popular ‘Soccer Sisters’ programme that Paul set up in Timaru will begin again in Dunedin on Friday June 2nd, with the aim to get as many girls together for a fun development programme, for players of any ability and experience aged between 7-14 years old. The programme will be delivered by Tessa with support from a number of coaches in the community, including some that recently attended the Senior Level 2 in . Tessa will also be getting around the regions soon, so be sure to get in touch and see how she can help you.

Other News Chris is off to Auckland to assist as the National Technology Review moves into its phase, for Wednesday’s Federation CEO meeting, and Football’s AGM on Thursday. Progress continues this week on the Dunedin all-weather turf project, with the formation of the project group who will be charged with delivery of the facility. New board member Graham Marshall will be providing assistance here given his significant experience in construction management.

‘ for the love of local Footie’ Premiers were out at Memorial and after a couple weeks off were keen to start scratching a few points together. It's fair to say we haven't quite hit our stride this season with many interruptions having a deleterious affect on performance. Today was an opportunity to get some momentum against a good solid challenge. The first 20 minutes was as you'd expect with Mosgiel coming at us looking to startle with a goal. They drew a few corners and will possibly rue a couple missed half chances. With their resident class clown on the side line mixing some good banter with some rather obscene Cavy started to string a few passes together and our quality started showing signs of quietening the sideline. With Mosgiel over committing it took 4 passes to unlock the defence and have Ridden rounding the keeper in the 20th for our first goal. Chances started to mount with the Mosgiel keeper makinghttp://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ some fantastic saves to keep them in the contest. From a corner however it was Riddenhttp://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ again who popped up at the back post to bulge the net from close range. The second half saw cavy take it up a notch with our movement and passing causing mayhem in the Mosgiel midfield. We were in complete control when first Collier scored a header and then Ben Wade nabbed himself a brace of goals with some good finishing. Although we probably should have converted a few more the overall performance was pleasing and of a standard befitting this group - FT 5-0. The Seconds were out at Sunnyvale v Green Island. We had a very young group of players on the park but they didn't let that stop them from trying to play some brave and mature football. Unfortunately with that youth we made a couple mistakes which were duly punished. Our boys stuck to their guns however and created a lot of good opportunities with some passing moves that had the coaching staff smiling. Good to get a couple goals but well done to green island 2-4 FT. The Woman were out at Memorial and put in a much better performance that they can be pleased with. They held mosgiel for long periods of the game however went into the sheds 2 nil down at half time. We conceded 3 more in the second half as fitness started to take a toll however with a few chances ourselves the girls can be proud FT 0-5. The 3rds took on top of the table Balclutha and given they haven't been beaten in over a year we mounted a very good challenge. With a number of youth boys backing up and playing very well we had a 2-1 lead at half time. Although having Clutha on the ropes we were unable to hang for what would've been a great victory. A point against the reigning champs isn't a bad result though FT3-3.

Page 30 Another away day and another tough trip to Dunedin to face University at the Caledonian. This was to be our fourth away day to Dunedin in the league and this week the focus has been proving to ourselves that we can go to games in Dunedin and come away with a win. To date we have been unhappy with areas of our game that has let us down on recent travels. It is good to see Darran when we arrive, another person I have a decent regard for. The pitch looks great and looks ready for a fast flowing game, that is what we get. Both teams start of brightly with the game being played in a way that would have had the onlookers happy with what they are seeing. Both teams create good chances in the first half but for the majority of the half the defensive desire of both teams keeps the score goal less, that is until just before the half time Sunday v Varsity whistle. Kumar is allowed to wriggle past a few defenders in the box and cuts a ball back for Gardner who finishes with aplomb. One nil to us at the half. http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ Our half time team http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/talk is all about our levels of aggression, this needs to be upped by us as we feel that University are being given to much time to play, we also make a change with Carlos Hermann (once labelled the 'Bus driver' by somebody in Dunedin) who is affectionately known by all in Queenstown as the 'Kingg'.. Instantly we have good possession out wide and Gardner crosses a great ball to the back post where a on rushing Nash lashes the ball in for his first game of the season. We are delighted as its just the start we wanted, with Gardner , Kumar and the King pressing from the front and our midfield working tirelessly we go bang, bang to make it 4-0 on the hour. Goal three is a direct result of pressure on the Varsity centre backs and Kumar finishing with a slide rule shot. Goal four is from some neat build up play Kumar again plays in a delightful defence splitting pass and without taking a touch Hermann smashes the ball past the keeper. Varsity get two quick goals and make the last ten minutes more uncomfortable than they needed to be. Our midfield duo of Nick and Sam get awarded as our men of the matches, who's endeavour and tenacity have us on the front foot in the second half. Next week we go to Roslyn for a Chatham Cup game and we anticipate another tough away day at Ellis Park, one thing I am confident about is that there will be goals, probably at both ends. Jamie Page 31 Mosgiel Gerries 35s v Cav after absorbing early Zane’s Back ... pressure Dion scored to go 1.0 up . Cav got one back then Jeff got a good goal to put us 2-1 up at h/t .and Justin saved a penalty- that's 4 penalty saves in a row . Not bad for a one eyed Irishman. The second half was a good battle and still 2-1 up with a min to go Cav got a corner and goal mouth scramble the ball somehow went into net 2-2 draw.POD was Justin. Clients Young 3rds v Mornington at the Soggy Oval. Mornington scored early direct from a corner. We then dominated 65 mins missed a penalty hit the bar did everything but score. Made a couple of changes which changed the game and they scored 4 late goals and we ended up losing 5-0. Great shifts from Jack, TC and Beckham. But MOM again was Will Riddell outstanding again.

45s once again gifted Rosyln the early initiative and they took full advantage with 7 yes 7 in the opening 30 minutes . We finally woke up and won the

Shaes 2nds travelled to Braes which was a Game of 2 halves .mosgiel dominated the 1st half & should've been 2 nil up but it was . 1-1 at h /t 2nd half Braes got on top momentum changed lost 4-1 . Pat was furious and thats not a pretty sight ... Craig's prems v. powerhouse Cav at memorial - We started well but didnt take our chances; which against Cav is always costly and so it proved with Cav scoring a couple of good goals before half-time. Second half we dropped off the pace and ended up losing 5-0. Disappointing result with plenty to work at training before next week. Sean was POD for strong game in goal. http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/And we blooded yet more http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/young home grown talent when Charlie Gruppelaar made his debut coming on for the last 5 minutes. Womens v Cav at memorial and won 5/0 . It could've been double if all the shots had gone in. Raegan got Hatrick, Erin 2 and Ella had very hard attacking game P.O.D went to Raegan for the hatrick. So it ended honours even v Cav over the 3 games 1 win 1 draw 1 defeat apiece Nevinho

K-B’s Prem Men hosted a quality Roslyn Wakari squad in beautiful conditions and in front of a good crowd at Sunnyvale. It was an arm wrestle and Roslyn scored an excellent first goal which we countered immediately after great work from Henrique for Matt Brazier to finish. The second half saw us get back into the game and, in the final minutes, the pressure led to Max Johnston laying off a ball for Matt Brazier to finish for a 2-1 win. Viridian Glass PoD was Cody Robinson. Nick’s Prem Women played the top team, Dunedin Tech also at Sunnyvale. Last time we played them, we conceded a couple of very early goals and were 4 down at half time. Today we set ourselves a goal to tighten up at the back and keep Tech scoreless for the first 15 minutes. The girls really fronted up and kept Tech at bay. Eight minutes in, we won a corner. Abby floated it over to the back post and Lisa made a

Page 34 great run in and put it into the back of the net for us to go up 1 nil. 10 minutes later after absorbing lots of pressure we unfortunately turned one into our own net for 1 all. We fell asleep from the kick off and 30 seconds later it was 2-1. Not a great period of play. The girls woke up and battled hard for the remainder of the first half and went into the break 2-1 down. This was a big improvement on last time, but showed that switching off for thirty seconds in this grade will cost you goals. Second half started as the first finished, us battling hard, defending well and creating some chances ourselves. Just on the hour mark we conceded again, Dave Cull but were still well in the game. Jess took a shot from 20 yards which only just went wide. Had that gone in, it would have made for a very interesting final 20. Unfortunately we conceded two more late on to make it 5-1, but the girls deserved better. PoD deservedly went to Jess Fuller. She played in the midfield, out on the wing and as a striker. She never stopped running and brought a lot of much needed energy to the game. In other games, Rory’s young Div1 lads did the double on Cavy with a 4-2 win. In control at 3-0 up, Cavy scored a couple of quick goals mid way through the 2 nd half http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ to keep everyone on edge. We then poked one in from a keeper blunder to take the 3 http://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ points. Shane’s Div 2 team battled well against Varsity but let in a couple of soft goals and the offside 3 rd was gutting. Connor Wyllie used his pace well up front and the boys continue to show improvement which should see them take points as the season progresses. Belly’s Div3 hosted the top Braes team and it was a tough game, with rough conditions underfoot. The lads battled on and managed to get 1-0 up at the half. We kept the pressure on but Braes had some chances and Andy in goal was tested for sure. We finished 2-0 up with a screamer of a goal from Hayden Gunn. iPlumb Plumbing and Gas PoD was Goal Keeper Andy Simpson. Our Div4 GI Green Scarfies hosted top of the table Roslyn Chargers and, after a bit of trouble getting the nets up at Walton Park, managed to put 2 in the net with Roslyn only getting the 1. Sam’s Div 1 ladies hosted a good Balclutha with an entertaining match ending in a 1 – 1 draw. Trev’s ladies travelled to the high veldt to take on the Kaimanawas where there was both a lack of oxygen and points for our girls. Our 35s went down 1-3 against top of the table Northern and our 45s scored a few late to grind down a competitive Dn Tech Frotters The Green Man Page 35 Better than a Bouncey Castle, any day....

Page 36 Prem Men - The BYE Fletchers : Tech 0 vs Roslyn 1 A tough day at the office and a tough way to start round 2. Up against a Roslyn team that was beaten 8-1 last timehttp://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ was a tough fought encounter. Roslyn came out with a much more determined approachhttp://www.footballsouth.co.nz/ this time. Putting away the only goal of the game in the first half. Player to the day Liam Watson. Thirds : Tech 5 vs Northern 0 After 2 weeks off football the team cane onto the field and even with a few injuries brought back glimpses of their first game. Opening the goal scoring early with 2 goals to James Brown, 1 to Taine Bayly and a goal to take the game 4-0 by Patrick Koppert. Northern had a chance to put 1 on the board for a penalty spot but saved by Chris. A bit sloppy in the second half saw 1 more goal in the game to go to James for a hat- trick and complete the shut out 5-0. Player of the day Chris Goodship. Weasels : Tech 0 vs Balclutha 2 Never an easy day at the office and having to give Balclutha the first win of the season didn't help. Things didn't work for the team today and the frustration showed. game ending 2-0. Player of the day - No one. Colts : Tech 4 vs Grants Braes 2 In a game where subs weren't an option meant the colt had to dig deep into their bags of tricks. However when the game started they felt like they were just watching. They managed to turn the game around and come out on top 4-2 but know that the team can play better and looking forward to next week. Page 37 Player of the day Alex La Roche Frotters : Tech 1 vs Green Island 7 Again another team onto their second round and the top of the table GI showed why they are there out classing Tech on the field today. After coming off the back of a couple of wins Tech wanted to keep the wins coming but GI wouldn't allow it finishing down 7-1 Prem Women : Tech 5 vs Green Island 1 The late game out at Sunnyvale had the Tech side working for their result today with Green island looking to push for every ball on the park. Going into the half Tech were up by 1 with the score 2-1. A more dominant performance in the second saw Tech get a few more goals away and take home the 3 points 5-1.
