Tentangan Pas Tak Masuk Akal, Kata Tengku Razaleigh

The Role of Social Media in the Bersih Movement's Mobilisation

The proposed research study received human research ethics approval from the Curtin University Human Research Ethics Committee (EC00262); Approval Number #HRE2017-0273. Signature : Date :…1/2/2021… ABSTRACT This thesis examines how a social movement uses social media in mobilising individuals to engage in the development of electoral reform and democracy in Malaysia. The way individuals engage with social media in their everyday lives and what encourages them to communicate and participate provides continual challenges for social movement activists. My study uses Foth and Hearn’s (2007) notion of ecology as a foundation to explain the interdependencies of citizens, place, and technology in the context of a social movement. A communicative ecology model sees social media as an environment and argues that communication and information should not be studied alone because there are different people, media, activities, and relationships involved (Tacchi, 2004; Foth & Hearn, 2007; Strate, 2017). -

Publisher of scholarly books on economics, politics and social issues Advance Title Information World Rights PARTI ISLAM SEMALAYSIA (PAS): UNIFIER OF THE UMMAH? by Wan Saiful Wan Jan Pub. date: 4 Dec 2020 About the AUTHOR •Wan Saiful Wan Jan is Visiting Senior Fellow at the ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute, Singapore. About the BOOK The Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS) is no stranger to coalition politics. It has a long history of working with others, both in government and in opposition. Up until 2018, it used the framework of tahaluf siyasi as the guide to forming coalitions. Under the pretext of tahaluf siyasi or political coalition, PAS joined the Barisan Nasional (BN) government in 1974. It was also a key player in the Angkatan Perpaduan Ummah (APU), Barisan Alternatif (BA) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) opposition coalitions. But in the lead up to GE14, PAS decided to form the Gagasan Sejahtera coalition with much smaller parties—Berjasa and Ikatan. It dominated this coalition and the two partners were largely insignificant. After GE14, PAS decided to partner with UMNO in Muafakat Nasional, under the pretext of a new strategy called ta’awun siyasi or political cooperation. This is a looser partnership arrangement, in which the partners are not strictly bound to each other. The formation of Muafakat Nasional is a historic development, as it brings together the two biggest and oldest Malay political parties for the time in an exclusive manner. Bersatu joined the pact in 2020, making Muafakat Nasional the biggest Malay political force in Malaysia today. PAS sees its role as a unifier of the Muslim ummah, holding and keeping the peace between UMNO and Bersatu. -

Malaysia: the 2020 Putsch for Malay Islam Supremacy’
Jurnal Pengajian Melayu - JOMAS, Jilid 32(1), 2021: 118-137 KUPASAN ARTIKEL ‘MALAYSIA: THE 2020 PUTSCH FOR MALAY ISLAM SUPREMACY’ (CRITICAL APPRAISAL ON MALAYSIA: THE 2020 PUTSCH FOR MALAY ISLAM SUPREMACY’) James Chin, The Round Table, (2020), Vol. 109, No. 3, 288–297 https://doi.org/10.1080/00358533.2020.1760495 Asmady Idris [email protected] Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia Asri Salleh [email protected] Universiti Teknologi Mara, Cawangan Sabah, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia Mohd Rizal Mohd Yaakop [email protected] Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi Malaysia Received: 11 Februari 2020; Accepted: 8 April 2021 Abstract The 2018 General Election (PRU) marked a significant point in the history of Malaysian politics when the major opposition bloc Pakatan Harapan (PH) ended Barisan Nasional (BN) rule of 60 years since gaining independence in 1957. However, the PH government, led by ex-premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, only lasted 22 months. Accordingly, the sudden collapse of the PH government drew many to offer their respective analyses. James Chin (2020) wrote one of them titled ‘Malaysia: The 2020 Putsch for Malay Islam Supremacy’. He argued that, amongst the many reasons attributable to its sudden collapse, one stood out – the position of Islam and Malay supremacy in Malaysia. Since Malaysia is predominantly a Malay-Muslim country, such a profound claim warrants a thorough response. Thus, this study’s objective is to analyse and offer critiques on Chin’s work based on the three main factors, namely the concept of Malay supremacy, unreadiness of Malays to share power with non-Malays and the position of non-Malays e ISSN 2735 - 1904 https://doi.org/10.22452/JOMAS.vol32no1.8 118 Jurnal Pengajian Melayu - JOMAS, Jilid 32(1), 2021: 118-137 in the top government positions. -

Domination, Contestation, and Accommodation: 54 Years of Title Sabah and Sarawak in Malaysia Author(s) Faisal, S. Hazis Citation Southeast Asian Studies (2018), 7(3): 341-361 Issue Date 2018-12 URL http://hdl.handle.net/2433/237246 Right © Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University Type Departmental Bulletin Paper Textversion publisher Kyoto University Southeast Asian Studies, Vol. 49, No. 2, September 2011 Domination, Contestation, and Accommodation: 54 Years of Sabah and Sarawak in Malaysia Faisal S. Hazis* This article traces the major contestations that have taken place in Sabah and Sarawak throughout the 54 years of their independence. The two major areas of contestation are state power and local resources, pitting federal leaders against Sabah and Sarawak’s elites. These contestations have forced the federal govern- ment to accommodate the local elites, thus ensuring the stability of Barisan Nasional (BN) rule in the East Malaysian states. However, Sabah and Sarawak elites are not homogeneous since they have different degrees of power, agendas, and aspirations. These differences have led to open feuds between the elites, resulting in the col- lapse of political parties and the formation of new political alignments. Over almost four decades, a great majority of the people in Sabah and Sarawak have acceded to BN rule. However, in the last decade there have been pockets of resistance against the authoritarian rule of BN and the local elites. This article argues that without accountability and a system of checks and balances, the demand for more autonomy by the increasingly vocal Sabah and Sarawak elites will benefit only them and not the general public. -
NIK AZIZ HALANG PAS SERTAI SEMULA BN (Bernama 30/07/1999)
30 JUL 1999 Razaleigh-PAS NIK AZIZ HALANG PAS SERTAI SEMULA BN MACHANG, 30 Julai (Bernama) -- PAS pernah bersetuju menyertai semula Barisan Nasional bersama-sama tiga lagi parti pembangkang tetapi dibantah oleh Mursyidul Amnya Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, demikian menurut Pengerusi Badan Perhubungan Umno Kelantan Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah. -
