NIK AZIZ HALANG PAS SERTAI SEMULA BN (Bernama 30/07/1999) 30 JUL 1999 Razaleigh-PAS NIK AZIZ HALANG PAS SERTAI SEMULA BN MACHANG, 30 Julai (Bernama) -- PAS pernah bersetuju menyertai semula Barisan Nasional bersama-sama tiga lagi parti pembangkang tetapi dibantah oleh Mursyidul Amnya Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, demikian menurut Pengerusi Badan Perhubungan Umno Kelantan Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah. -- BERNAMA WM MAI.

  • Tentangan Pas Tak Masuk Akal, Kata Tengku Razaleigh

Establishing an Islamic State : Ideals and Realities in the State Title of Kelantan, Malaysia (<Special Issue>Islam in Southeast Asia) Author(s) Muhammad Syukri Salleh Citation 東南アジア研究 (1999), 37(2): 235-256 Issue Date 1999-09 URL http://hdl.handle.net/2433/56717 Right Type Departmental Bulletin Paper Textversion publisher Kyoto University Southeast Asian Studies, Vol. 37, No.2, September 1999 Establishing an Islamic State: Ideals and Realities in the State of Kelantan, Malaysia MUHAMMAD SYUKRI SALLEH* Abstract This paper observes an experience in establishing an Islamic State in the State of Kelantan, Malaysia, undertaken by the Malaysian Pan-Islamic Party (PAS) -led government. From the outset of its establishment, PAS holds to the ideals that political and governing power, hence an Islamic State, is indeed an important means in executing a complete law of Allah. Without political power, PAS believes, not only an establishment of an Islamic State is impossible, but the execution of the laws of Allah that binds the complete Islamic way of life would also be unachievable. In the State of Kelantan, the ideal of having the governing and political power has already been accomplished. But this is inadequate. The PAS-led government is facing with two unfavourable realities. Firstly, the realities that are related to external factors, from outside the Party, and secondly to internal factors, from within the Party and the PAS-led government themselves. In the former, one witness the role of the Federal Barisan Nasional government, especially through its Federal Development Department established in the State, in interrupting the endeavours undertaken by the PAS-led government.

  • THE RISE and FALL of S46 (Bernama 06/10/1996)
06 OCT 1996 S46-Events THE RISE AND FALL OF S46 By: Ali Mamat KOTA BAHARU, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Parti Melayu Semangat 46 occupied a place in Malaysian politics for eight colourful years, going through many ups and downs. At the onset of its formation, the Umno splinter party's performance was most encouraging, especially in Malay-majority states. However, the 1995 general election results showed that the party was not only further from achieving the objective of its struggles, but support from Malays who were once strongly backing the party was also eroding as an increasing number of S46 members returned to Umno. Apart from that, S46's former allies began to distance themselves from the party, beginning with its partners in Gagasan Rakyat including the Democratic Action Party (DAP), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM). And the latest to leave the party led by former Finance Minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah were its partners in Angkatan Perpaduan Ummah (APU) -- PAS, Berjasa and Hamim -- who had been in power in Kelantan since 1990. Under such circumstances, Tengku Razaleigh was left with no choice in his pursuit of his struggle but to dissolve S46 and take his followers to Umno en bloc. S46 held a special assembly today to obtain the mandate of at least two-thirds of its members before the party is dissolved. Following is a summary in chronological order of S46's formation and events surrounding the party including its cooperation with opposition parties, break up with PAS and holding of the Malay Unity rally last Thursday which was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

However, the PH government, led by ex-premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, only lasted 22 months. Accordingly, the sudden collapse of the PH government drew many to offer their respective analyses. James Chin (2020) wrote one of them titled ‘Malaysia: The 2020 Putsch for Malay Islam Supremacy’. He argued that, amongst the many reasons attributable to its sudden collapse, one stood out – the position of Islam and Malay supremacy in Malaysia. Since Malaysia is predominantly a Malay-Muslim country, such a profound claim warrants a thorough response. Thus, this study’s objective is to analyse and offer critiques on Chin’s work based on the three main factors, namely the concept of Malay supremacy, unreadiness of Malays to share power with non-Malays and the position of non-Malays e ISSN 2735 - 1904 https://doi.org/10.22452/JOMAS.vol32no1.8 118 Jurnal Pengajian Melayu - JOMAS, Jilid 32(1), 2021: 118-137 in the top government positions.

The above assumption, and its many consequent analyses of a rising, perhaps even threatening, ‘political Islam’ seemed justified, if belatedly, by the results of the November 1999 general election.

  • Parti Baharu Dr M Akan Alami Nasib Semangat 46? Free Malaysia Today Julai 14, 2016 Faiz Zainudin

Whilst the country has been able to sustain a relatively stable politics since the 1969 tragedy, and hence spawn a rapid economic development (at least until the 1997 Asian economic crisis), the project of nation-building remained a basic national agenda yet to be fully resolved. This study investigates the delicate process of nation-building in Malaysia in the post 1970s, especially in the context of the vision of constructing the Bangsa Malaysia or 'a united Malaysian nation' enshrined in Mahathir's Vision 2020 project which was introduced in 1991. The aim of the study is firstly, to examine the underlying socio-political parameters that shaped and influenced the politics of nation-building in the country, and secondly, to explore the viability of the project of Bangsa Malaysia in the context of the daunting challenges involved in the process of nation-building. Drawing from a range of theoretical frameworks as well as from both primary and secondary data, the study contends that, based on the Malaysian experience, the potent interplay between the forces of ethnicity and nationalism constitute the crux of the problems in the politics of nation-building in Malaysia.

  • RENTETAN PENUBUHAN DAN PEMBUBARAN S46 (Bernama 06
