Hallmark Channel announces two-time Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominee Della Reese (“Touched by an Angel”) will guest star in a two-episode arc on “Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” Hallmark Channel’s highly-anticipated new Original Series premiering Sunday, April 20, 2014 (8 p.m. ET/PT, 7C). The time slot not only signifies a coming home for Williamson to the same time period once held by “Touched by an Angel,” but also reunites old friends Williamson and Reese who embark on a new journey together. “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” stars Eric Mabius (“Ugly Betty”), Kristin Booth (“The Kennedys”), Crystal Lowe (“Smallville”) and Geoff Gustafson (“Primeval: New World”) and is Created and Executive Produced by Martha Williamson, best known as the Executive Producer and creative force behind the mega-hit “Touched By An Angel.”
“The role of supervisor is one that Ms. Reese has perfected,” said Michelle Vicary, EVP, Programming for Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel. “She was beloved as Tess, the angels' supervisor for nine years on the mega-hit, ‘Touched By An Angel,’ also Executive Produced by Martha Williamson, and we are so thrilled to have her once again team up with Martha on our network,” Vicary concluded. Della Reese began her career in the 1950s making hit records such as “Don’t You Know” and “That Reminds Me” with the Erskine Hawkins Orchestra and performing on television variety shows. In 1969, she hosted a TV talk show called “Della” and became the first African-American woman to host her own variety show. In addition, Reese became the first African-American woman to serve as a guest host on “The Tonight Show.” She also guest-starred on several TV series in the 1980s including “Sanford and Son” and “Picket Fences” and in 1987 was nominated for a Gospel Music Grammy Award® in the category of Best Female Soloist. Then in the 1990s,
Reese landed her most recognizable role as “Tess” alongside Roma Downey and John Dye in the critically claimed series “Touched by an Angel,” with Executive Producer Martha Williamson.
Hallmark Channel's new original series is a wonderful combination of romance, comedy, and drama that follows the lives of a group of postal workers who transform themselves into an untraditional team of detectives to track down intended recipients of undeliverable mail. Their missions take them out of the office into an unpredictable world where redirected letters and packages can save lives, solve crimes, reunite old loves and change futures by arriving late but somehow on time.
The series will showcase Reese in a comedic role as their supervisor, who's such a stickler for mailroom rules she literally manages the team from her manual…until she has a transformational experience. The revolving role of the supervisor will feature television icons throughout the run of the first season of “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.”
