 MLB Greening Program - MLB Greening Program is sponsored by the National Resources Defense Council.  Minor League Baseball - Green Team is a program with the Minor League that focuses on education and information about green practices.  Arizona Diamondbacks - APS Solar Pavilion is a part of the ballpark that generates solar power to provide shading for fans.  Braves – EcoMetrix is the sustainability advisor to the Braves and helped them to make Turner Field more environmentally friendly  Orioles – Go Green Initiatives includes recycling, using energy efficient lighting and plumbing, using eco-friendly, supplies, helping with green initiatives in the community by partnering with other organizations like the National Wildlife Foundation and National Aquarium, and encouraging fans to ride bicycles or trains to games.  Boston Red Sox - Fenway Greening includes project like a rooftop garden, creating a Green Team that focuses on recycling, and using solar panels.  Cubs – The 1060 Project, which is an expansion and upgrade of Wrigley Field, includes using more energy efficient appliances, recycling and using recycled material throughout the park, and more environmentally friendly compounds.  Chicago White Sox – Constellation Energy (an Exelon corporation) and the White Sox established an environment effort to power its games with 100% renewable energy.  Cincinnati Reds – ENERGY STAR (an EPA program) and the Reds partnered to improve tracking its energy usage and performance.  Cleveland Indians - Our Tribe is Green is the Indians program that involves recycling and using advanced green options.  Colorado Rockies – Green Campaign encourages visitors to ride their bikes to the stadium.  Detroit Tigers - Going... The Royals also installed solar panels to its stadium roof.  Los Angeles Dodgers - Going Green, which means it is instituting energy efficient measures like installing new water valves, low-flush fixtures, waterless urinals, hand driers, automatic faucets, and new energy efficient lighting.  Miami Marlins - Marlins Park’s Environmental Commitment includes water use reduction, a recycling program, waste management, and environmentally safe compounds.  Milwaukee Brewers - Brewing a Greener Game is a program that focuses on recycling and using energy efficient products, as well as a “Plant-A-Tree” program, which plants a tree every 20,000 tickets sold.  Minnesota Twins - Go Twins, Go Green has seen a reduction in overall waste, the incorporation of eco-friendly products in concession stands, and a water system that purifies and reuses rainwater.  - is Green is a pledge the Mets took to reduce its carbon footprint by recycling, installing energy efficient products like low flow faucets and toilets, a green roof, and encouraging fans to ride bicycles.  - Green Initiatives include recycling cooking oil, energy efficient plumbing fixtures and lighting, and biodegradable products.  Oakland Athletics – AEG Earth Conserve Sustain is a commitment made by Oakland Alameda County Coliseum to reduce its environmental impact by creating a compost program, using water efficient plumbing, energy efficient lighting, green cleaning program, and a recycling program.  Philadelphia Phillies - Red Goes Green includes a program called “Home Runs for Trees” that plants a tree for each home run hit by the Phillies, has a robot named “Phil” who interacts with fans by encouraging them to recycle, and has a volunteer program that picks up recycling after Phillies games.  Pittsburgh Pirates - Let's Go Bucs. Let's Go Green is an initiative that focuses on recycling, conservation, and awareness.  San Diego Padres - Green Initiative for focuses on implementing recycling, a waste management plan, energy efficient products, and water conservation measures.  San Francisco Giants – The organization partnered with Hanwha Solar to establish the “I SUN SF” campaign that includes solar panels and a recycling team.  Seattle Mariners – Safeco Field Going Green includes using LED lights, areas around the park to educate fans on recycling, a recycling and composting program, and establishing an urban garden.  St. Louis Cardinals - 4 a Greener Game involves a recycling program that involves volunteers who collect recyclables during games, and reducing the amount of energy used.  Tampa Bay Rays - Teaming up for the Environment promotes water and energy conservation, recycling, and environment education programs.  Rangers – Rangers go Green features a parking lot to bring commuters together, recycling, composting grass clippings, and energy efficient lights and water system.

Blue Jays – The Roger Centre has recycling areas, uses degradable and recyclable materials in concession stands, and has installed energy conserving features with its lighting, hand dryers, and plumbing.  Washington Nationals - Green Ballpark includes water conservation plumbing, energy efficient lighting, safer building materials, and recycling areas.

 NBA Green - A Program of NBA Cares that creates awareness and funds for protecting the environment.  WNBA – A WNBA article, “WNBA Encourages Fans to Go Green,” says the league has Green Week were the teams will wear raise awareness about the environment, wear apparel on-court, and do community service relating to the environment.  Atlanta Hawks - Philips Arena upgraded its energy performance, water consumption, and waste management.  Boston Celtics - Recycling Education Initiative features educational programs that promotes environmental responsibility and conservation such as Energy Assist.  - Trees for Threes is an initiative that plants a tree for every three-pointer made at home games.  Charlotte Hornets – The Hornets have an agreement with a waste management service that will help with recycling and minimizing Time Warner Cable Arena’s environmental impact.  Chicago Bulls – Go Green is a program that gives different tips each month that relate to conservation and the environment such as recycling, air quality, green transportation, and tips for each of the seasons.  Chicago Sky – Allstate Arena made a Go Green initiative that features recycling throughout the arena, installed energy efficient lighting, and create collections for reusable items and properly dispose of hazardous items like cellphones and fluorescent lightbulbs.  Cleveland Cavaliers – The team participates in “Trees for Threes” and is working with Quicken Loans Arena to promote recycling, composting, and installing energy efficient lighting.  Connecticut Sun – Mohegan Sun Arena made a commitment to install energy efficient lighting and HVAC system, water conserving measures, and install areas for electric vehicles.  Dallas Mavericks – Mavericks participate in the “Tress for Threes” program.  Dallas Wings – The College Park Center has low emittance glazed windows, a reflective roof to reduce heat, and a low-use water system.  Nuggets – The Pepsi Center has a “Play Clean” initiative designed to encourage recycling.  Detroit Pistons –An LED lighting system at the Palace helps to reduce energy consumption and the Palace uses eco-friendly disposable products at its concession stands.  Golden State Warriors – AEG Earth Conserve Sustain is a commitment made by Oakland Alameda County Coliseum to reduce its environmental impact by creating a compost program, using water efficient plumbing, energy efficient lighting, green cleaning program, and a recycling program.

 Houston Rockets - Red Nation Goes Green is a program that includes recycling, using EPA certified paper products, energy efficient motion sensors, tree planting, and have an Environmental Awareness Game to help educate fans.  Indiana Pacers - Go Green is the Pacers program for the NBA’s Green Week that promotes awareness and funds for protecting the environment and sustainable practices.  Los Angeles Clippers and Lakers – The has solar panels on its rooftops, an LED lighting system to reduce energy consumption, and a program that deals with waste management and recycling.  Los Angeles Sparks – The Sparks have a Green Team that works with the community, government, and businesses to help reduce its environmental impact.  – During “Go Green Week,” the Grizzlies host an expo to teach fans about green tips, and the team, along with eco-friendly organizations, plant trees. The organization also has a “Tour de Grizz” to encourage fans to ride bicycles.  – The American Airlines Arena’s sustainability includes a roof with materials that reflect heat so less energy is needed to cool the building, and an irrigation system that runs under the surface to deliver water to the roots.  Milwaukee Bucks – BMO Harris is committed to sustainability through energy reduction and efficiency, transport programs for hybrid vehicles, using sustainable materials, and waste management.  Minnesota Lynx – The team has a “Go Green” night to promote sustainable practices to reduce the community’s carbon footprint. The ’s sustainability includes recycling, saving energy and water, raising awareness of environmental issues, and using eco-friendly products.  Minnesota Timberwolves – As part of the FastBreak Foundation, the organization dedicates April as “Think Green” in order to help educate fans on an eco-friendly lifestyle. The Target Center’s sustainability includes recycling, saving energy and water, raising awareness of environmental issues, and using eco-friendly products.  New York Liberty – The organization works with Garden of Dreams and has done some outreach activities with the community that promote environmentally friendly practices.  – The Knicks have a “Trees for Threes” program.  City Thunder – The Chesapeake Energy Arena’s Rethink! initiative focuses on recycling and reusing printer ink cartridges. The organization also participates in Green Week by emphasizing the use of hybrid transportation and eco-friendly travel tips.  Orlando Magic – The has decreased its energy and water usage, placed recycling bins for visitors, and has a reflective roof to reduce cooling costs.  Philadelphia 76ers – The organization participates in the NBA’s Green Week and have distributed eco-friendly bags to fans, planted trees, and helping the community with energy efficient renovation projects.  Phoenix Suns – The organization has a “Green Team” of students that encourages schools to become eco-friendly. The organization also has “Go Green,” which involves one game to be played using only renewable energy through the arena’s solar panels.  Portland Trailblazers – The organization is committed to being environmentally friendly by increasing recycling and improving waste management, using energy efficient products, and installing a smart irrigation system and drought resistant plants. The team also has a “Threes for Trees” program and “Green Games,” to educate fans on eco-friendly practices.

 Sacramento Kings – SPI Solar installed solar panels on the arena’s roof and the organization has installed lighting controls and water fixtures as its sustainability practice.  San Antonio Spurs – The organization participates in Green Week and the AT&T Center uses Filta Environmental Kitchen Solutions to recycle cooking oils and reduce vegetable oil to biodiesel. The arena also has solar panels.  – The organization and Carter Subaru partner for “Go Green” that features includes “Threes for Trees.”  Toronto Raptors – The Air Canada Centre has a “Team Up Green” program to reduce its environmental impact in the areas of energy, water, and waste.  – The organization participated in “Green Week” by having green-themed activities and eco-friendly giveaways, and has a “Green Team” that helps organizations and the community become more eco-friendly.  Washington Wizards – The Wizards partnered with Washington Gas to green the Verizon Center by reducing the carbon dioxide emissions.

Football

 NFL - NFL Green.  Arizona Cardinals– The University of Phoenix Stadium has a green mission that features LED sports lightning, recycling bins, and uses green products for pest control and cleaning.  Atlanta Falcons – The Green Initiative includes seed planting, and decreasing its energy consumption. The organization is making plans to have the new stadium set a higher eco- friendly standard than all other arenas.  Baltimore Ravens– The Ravens partnered with Constellation to install a solar generation project as a form of renewable energy.  Buffalo Bills – Implemented “Think Green” Parking Lots to minimize tailgate waste with recycling bins.  Carolina Panthers - The Panthers have a recycling program.  Chicago Bears - reduced its environmental impacts by decreasing its water usage, increasing energy efficiency, and creating waste management programs.  Cincinnati Bengals – The Bengals are committed to recycling during fan tailgates and the game.  Cleveland Browns - FirstEnergy Stadium has a Grind2Energy program that takes food and turns it into biogas to be used for generators. The stadium also has a recycling program.  Dallas Cowboys - The Cowboys’ stadium has retractable roof, recycling program, and reduced energy and water use.  Denver Broncos – Game Plan Green promotes environmental education programs that emphasize sustainability.  Detroit Lions - The Lions’ partner with REPREVE to increase awareness about recycling  Green Bay Packers– The Packers have a “First Down for Trees” program, which plants a tree for the number of first downs made, and there is a “Green Team” that focuses on sustainability and encourages fans to recycle.  Houston Texans - The Texans use interactive media guides instead of printing them on paper, installed energy efficient motion-sensor lights, has a “Touchdown for Trees” program, and has a recycling program.

 Indianapolis Colts - Lucas Oil Green initiatives include: recycling, water stations to reduce the number of plastic bottles, energy efficient lighting and HVAC, and biodegradable products.  Kansas City Chiefs - The Chiefs had solar panels installed and have a program called “Extra Yard for the Environment.”  Minnesota Vikings – Planet Purple is an initiative to be more green by reusing materials for the new stadium, installing a modular green roof to minimize summer air conditioning use, creating a recycling program, and using environmentally friendly cleaning products.  New England Patriots - The Patriots’ stadium has solar panels to make renewable energy.  Saints – The Saints partnered with Progressive Waste Solutions to have a contest among schools that encourages them to learn about and implement a recycling program.  and - MetLife Stadium has a Memorandum of Understanding with the EPA pledging to implement green practices such as recycling, conserving energy, and eco-friendly products.  Oakland Raiders –AEG Earth Conserve Sustain is a commitment made by Oakland Alameda County Coliseum to reduce its environmental impact by creating a compost program, using water efficient plumbing, energy efficient lighting, green cleaning program, and a recycling program.  Philadelphia Eagles - Go Green is an initiative that promotes recycling, composting, tree planting, and a solar and wind system to use energy.  San Diego Chargers - The team has a recycling program, has lowered energy use, and improved water conservation.  San Francisco 49ers - Levi’s Stadium has a green roof, uses recycled building products, and uses energy from its solar panels.  Seattle Seahawks - CenturyLink Field’s “Defend Your Turf” is a program that includes installing solar panels, energy efficient lighting, low-flow water fixtures, and recycling and composting bins.  Washington Redskins - The stadium added solar panels to decrease the amount of energy consumed.

 Hockey Green - Recycle Your Broken Stick collects hockey sticks to repurpose them.  NHL Green - News and information about the NHL and its environmental policies/practices.  – The has a fuel cell to generate clean and efficient energy for the arena.  Arizona Coyotes – “Going Green” is an initiative that uses biodegradable food service items, and has office policies for staff on ways to conserve energy.  – The organization has “Hat Trick for Trees” that plants trees for every hat trick they score.  Buffalo Sabres - The “Blue & Gold Make Green” is an initiative that reaches out to the community to educate fans about conservation and how to be greener.  Calgary Flames – The “Go Green! Go Flames Go! Paperless Tickets” is an initiative for fans to use electronic tickets instead of printing them.

The organization’s “Chicago Gateway Green” supports programs that educate and help with environmental development.  Colorado Avalanche- The Pepsi Center has a “Play Clean” initiative designed to encourage recycling.  Detroit Red Wings - The organization has partnered with DTE Energy for “Going Green Night” to raise awareness and provide information about renewable and efficient energy.  Oilers – Roger’s Place received LEED Silver status due to its waste reduction, reducing water usage, and optimizing energy.  Los Angeles Kings – Waste Management Green Games gives fans helpful tips on recycling and reusing items.  Minnesota Wild – “Leadership in Sustainability” is a program that has several initiatives aimed at reducing the facility’s carbon footprint such as recycling, composting, and going paperless.  Montreal Canadians - “The Goal is Green” is an initiative that features recycling, composting, and improving energy efficiency.  Nashville Predators – The arena has created a green wall of plants to improve air quality, installed LED lights, and recycle used cigarette butts  New Jersey Devils – The organization has “Pucks for Parks” initiative that plants two trees for every game the Devils win.  - The organization has “Goal Green” that encourages fans to recycle, the arena has water and energy efficient practices, and “Rock and Wrap it Up” that uses green solutions to help poverty by donating unused foods.  Ottawa Senators – The arena updated its lighting system.  Pittsburgh Penguins - CONSOL Energy Center is LEED Gold certified and has reduced its water use, has recycling, improved energy efficiency, and has a waste division.  - “Green is our Goal” is a program that helps the community implement environmental practices.  Tampa Bay Lightning - has efforts related to water and energy management, using paperless tickets, and reclaimed materials for its renovations.  Toronto Maple Leafs - The organization has “Earth Rangers” that engages and educates the community on biodiversity, and has done tree-planting events.  Canucks - Arena and Canucks Sports & Entertainment has implemented green initiatives like focusing on local products, minimizing waste, and install an energy optimizing system.

NASCAR

 NASCAR Green - NASCAR Green is the initiative that promotes using bio-fuel, planting trees, recycling, and using renewable energy.  Daytona - Daytona 500 uses an ethanol-blend fuel that emits less greenhouse gases.  Indianapolis Motor Speedway - Solar Power Facility.  Infineon Raceway- The Raceway has a solar farm to generate energy.

 Michigan International Speedway - The Raceway recycles and has planted trees.  American Ethanol - This is the gas of NASCAR that makes renewable gas and is part of the NASCAR Green initiative.  Pocono Raceway - The track has a solar panel, recycling, and a tree-planting program.  Roush Fenway Racing - The Raceway has “Green Means Go” that recycling improved energy efficiency, and solar panels.  Sonoma Raceway - Accelerating Sustainable Performance features solar-electric-power- generating installations, recycling, gardening, and a new kind of greener engine oil  Speedway Motorsports Inc. – The company is committed to recycling, using solar power, tree planting, and water conservation for all of its race tracks.

 Chick-fil-A Bowl - Hosts an Sustainability Summit to provide a forum for sustainability issues within college athletics to be discussed.  NIRSA - Provides information on sustainability in collegiate recreation.  Colorado University - Ralphie’s Green Stampede encourages zero waste during football games by providing recycling and composting bins, and uses eco-based products.  Columbia University – Lists the LEED Certification for different school buildings.  Missouri State University - Sustainable Features of the Recreation Center include reduced water usage, saving energy, and recycle waste.  Oregon State University - Schools recreational facilities have window to reduce heat gain, light-colored roofing to reduce heat, and motion sensor lighting.  Sonoma State University - Follows and implements suggest according to NIRSA Commission on Sustainability.  University of Arizona – NRDC conducts a case study on Arizona and its green initiative.  University of California, Berkeley - The facilities have waste bins for recycling and the football stadium renovations preserved the historic aspects of the arena but upgraded it to be safer for earthquakes.  University of Florida – Discusses the UF Green Building Program.  University of Iowa - Lists various buildings with the LEED certification level and the eco- friendly aspects of the building.  University of Minnesota - TCF Bank Stadium features a storm-water management system,  University of North Texas - Stadium features wind turbines and was made with recycled and local materials.  University of Texas at Austin –The school has initiatives throughout all its recreational facilities such as recycling, water conservation through low-flow showers, and reducing light and energy usage.  University of Washington - The Athletic Department has programs that encourage sustainability such as Sustainability Games, waste diversion initiatives, and constructing a stadium with sustainable building practices.

United - Earth Day Initiatives that include cleanup of RFK Stadium, using purchased wind sources to power the stadium for a game, and eco-tips for fans.  Houston Dynamo – BBVA Stadium was certified LEED Silver due to its waste management program, reducing water and energy use, and sourcing its wood-based materials from FSC certified forests.  LA Galaxy – StubHub Center’s environmental sustainability features motion sensors for HVAC and lighting, green cleaning products, energy efficient machines, and using recycled paper products.  Montreal Impact – The Impact partnered with Cascades to promote responsible waste management by adding recycling stations.  New England Revolution - Hosts an Earth Day event that encourages fans to recycle as part of the Revolution Charitable Foundation. Patriot Place Green Initiative.  New York Red Bulls – The team hosts a “Sustainability Night” that features programs and information on how fans can implement eco-friendly practices.  Portland Timbers - The organization has “Score a Goal, Plant a Tree” initiative that plants a tree for every goal scored.  Real Salt Lake – Solar Project that installed solar panels to increase energy efficiency.  San Jose Earthquakes – The organization started a garden inside the arena as the newest part to its already existing green initiative that features a recycled water irrigation system, energy conservation measures, and waste initiatives.  Seattle Sounders - The team started “Green Day” to promote sustainability in the Seattle community.
