At an uneventful and sparsely at- tended meeting Tuesday night, Sum- ter City Council approved a procure- ment resolution accepting a $4.65 million guaranteed maximum price for building a parking garage at Sumter Street and Hampton Avenue. The price is $4,658,007 from the contractor Thompson Turner Con- struction. General Counsel Eric Shytle ex- plained the city has already spent approximately $300,000 getting enough design and engineering work done to allow Thompson Turner to give a price. “And Still I Rise ... “ is an apt title for the exhibition opening Thursday at the Patriot Hall Gallery. It’s from one of Maya Angelou’s best known poems, and its verses chronicle the re- silience of African-American slaves.
