Baudelaire, O pintor da vida moderna Esta publicação oscila entre dois títulos muito significativos: por um lado, no seu início, podemos ler Art français, Art Portugais. Un Dialogue de neuf siècles, de José-Augusto França, notável historiador de arte e olisipógrafo que sempre se mostrou inteiramente disponível para apoiar e colaborar no nosso projecto. Do outro lado, como texto final, Ngā whakaekenga: An invasion…or? A letter to Chiado, de Mark Harvey, Professor de Artes Performativas da Universidade de Auckland, Nova Zelândia. O que se pretende simbolizar com estas duas referências diametralmente opos- tas do globo, de culturas tão distintas e distantes é, a par da representatividade muito alargada do projecto Chiado / Carmo / Paris, o espírito inerente às activi- dades desenvolvidas pela Casa de Portugal — André de Gouveia (instalada na Cité Universitaire de Paris), que se caracterizam pela grande diversidade cultural, artís- tica e científica. É com este entendimento da persistente criação de encontros civi- lizacionais e artísticos que os responsáveis pela Direcção da Casa de Portugal, da Cátedra Lindley Cintra da Universidade Paris Nanterre e do Leitorado de Português da Universidade Paris 8 Vincennes-St. Denis, do Camões-Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, têm recebido as propostas que anualmente lhes faço chegar para man- ter vivo o enlace Chiado / Carmo / Paris. Por este motivo, foi com enorme prazer que acolhi o desafio/convite da Doutora Ana Paixão e do Doutor José Manuel da 10 11 Costa Esteves para organizar esta obra, na qual estão contemplados sete anos Entre o Chiado, o Carmo e Paris consecutivos de parceria institucional e de trabalho, designadamente com produ- ção de textos submetidos a temas específicos, exposições de arte, realização de con- ferências, performances, ou criações videográficas. Efectivamente, a partir de 2013, ano da primeira interligação do projecto do Chiado / Carmo e da Casa de Portugal na Cité Universitaire, não abrandou a partilha de interesses artísticos e investigativos, com um enfoque em exposi- ções de obras de arte realizadas na Sala de Exposições Vieira da Silva, na Casa de Portugal — André Gouveia. Nestes actos expositivos confluem anualmente muitos jovens artistas da Faculdade de Belas-Artes de Lisboa, que se confrontam e enriquecem em contacto com jovens artistas de outras instituições de Ensino Artístico Superior, nomeadamente da Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Paris, da Escola de Belas Artes de Łódź, da Faculdade de Belas Artes de Granada, da Faculdade de Belas Artes de Cuenca, da Escola Superior de Artes de Auckland, da Academia de Belas Artes de Florença, da Faculdade de Belas Artes de Vitória (Brasil), ou da Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Bruxelas. Ainda a título de exemplo, embora relativamente a outro aspecto do projecto Chiado / Carmo / Paris, a saber, a sua dimensão ensaística e de organização de con- ferências públicas, foi justamente nesse ano de 2013, em pleno Grémio Literário de Lisboa (uma das instituições que tem integrado este rizoma) que tivemos a alegria de saudar a presença de José-Augusto França e Eduardo Lourenço (que recente- mente nos deixou) entre os conferencistas da edição dedicada ao “Francesismo” cujo “mote” fomos buscar a Eça Querós. Desde então, o “Labirinto” criativo que interliga os nossos lugares de manifestação poética, artística e científica não ces- sou de produzir resultados, a propósito de temas tão diferenciados como: Chiado, Carmo e o Cinema; Chiado, Carmo e Respublica Literaria; Chiado, Carmo e u-to- pia; Chiado, Carmo e As Aparições de Fausto; Chiado, Carmo e Coração das Trevas; Chiado, Carmo e Janotas e Flâneurs suspensos num Smartphone. Como enfatização daquilo que temos vindo a referir e do género de projectos que temos realizado em comum, permitam-me terminar esta Introdução com uma passagem da edição mais recente do Chiado / Carmo / Paris. “O projecto Chiado / Carmo, Artes na Esfera Pública deste ano consiste numa reflexão e numa produção artística que abrange um grande arco temporal —1850-2020 —, visando dois fenómenos essenciais à construção da esfera pública e civilizacional: A observação crítica e criativa da vida no espaço pú- blico, voltando a olhar os dandys, os flâneurs, os “Pintores G.” de Baudelaire, os janotas e os marialvas do Chiado e do Carmo do séc. XIX, como se se tratasse de um “Projecto Inacabado”, escolhendo nesse contexto os 12 José Quaresma Artes na Esfera Pública exemplos fecundos — mas também os modelos de interacção ainda não esgotados — de interpelação dos ritmos urbanos, de exposição aos outros e de assimilação sadia da “vida moderna”, nesse vagabundear que regista e pensa as mutações das metrópoles que habitamos, sejam as reais, sejam as virtuais que ampliam e perturbam as reais.” Entretanto, com o mesmo espírito de interpelação, e ainda que mergulhados no drama e nos impasses da pandemia que assola o mundo desde o início deste ano, já dialogámos e cuidámos do projecto para 2021 na Casa de Portugal, a saber: ‘Un Ballo in Maschera’ pelo Chiado e pelo Carmo.
