The club we’re celebrating recently when they were handed their Quality Mark Bronze certificate from the Scottish games ’governing body. To get the award , Buckie Ladies had to pass certain organisational criteria , such as having a committee and constitution, Current manager Mel Smith, former partner of David “ Parro” Findlay, who was the former manager, who passed away suddenly last December, said:’It was something “Parro ’wanted to get set up for us; he did the Quality Mark when he was manager of Buckie Rovers and when he was with the youth development set up at Buckie Thistle ‘

He has had more than 40 years experience in youth and senior football, Ian Macrae, another former ex Buckie player, Scott Riddoch who has been involved in youth coaching this season at the club, will be assistant under 20 manager to Ian Macrae.

Football note : Two things rested on the outcomes of two games as regards getting relegated to the second division, the Rovers had to win and Burghead had to win at Forres, they didn’t thus the Rovers stay up and the Thistle and Forres both go down. On a personal level most disappointing to lose two ‘home ’teams from the league, in terms of travelling times and expense.

Moray and District Welfare League Cullen ended their run of three straight defeats when they beat Portsoy by 11 goals to two, Brodie Christie who had been with the Rovers over

the past season scored four of the goals. In Sunday however, at RAF Lossiemouth, Cullen were turned over by five goals to nil. Paul Mellon scored both goals for Buckie United in a win over I of two goals to one. Portsoy have had a tough start to the season and at Aberlour on Sunday were thrashed by seven goals to nil.

Cove Rangers won promotion from the Highland League to join the Scottish Professional League as from next season. They thrashed League Two team Berwick Rangers on an aggregate score of 7-0 to secure their place. This left the Highland League with 17 sides for the 2019/20 campaign. However, an 18th team might be found before it gets under way, but as of this date no talks had yet taken place. Cove Rangers are the first Highland League team to gain promotion on the pitch.

The news comes as HFL unveil the fixture list for season 2019- 20, which will see the Jags open their account on Saturday July 27th when they make the trip to Inverurie Locos Harlaw Park.

Football news -Police trophy winners, a number of the players presently serving in Buckie won the annual Jewel of Moray trophy for the third time running when they beat No 4 RAF Police Squadron by 7 goals to 3. The man of the match award went to Constable Harry Bruce, presently based in Buckie. All the police goals were scored by former Buckie police officers P.C Steve Borzoni scoring a hat trick, P.C. Kevin ‘Covis ’Buchannan and D.C. Kevin Petrie both scoring two goals apiece.

Buckie United had a bye. Scotland call for BCHS girl ‘a first’. Caitlin Carnegie (13) the call most footballers can only dream of to represent her country has come true when she learnt that she has been selected for the BGC International Girl’s Team under 15s squad against Wales in early August. The BCHS under 15 and Deveronvale left back is the first girl to be called up by Scotland from the school. Caitlin has also been selected for inclusion in the North of Scotland under 15 squad along with fellow BCHS stars Lori Lappin and Catie Carter. Moray Welfare League Buckie United have maintained their seven point league at the top of the Moray Welfare League. In their first game since the halfway split the United opened their Premier Division account with a 2-0 win over Banff Rovers, Evan Smith and Paul Mellon being the scorers, game played on Wednesday night. On Sunday, playing at home they beat the Forres and Nairn league side Elgin Albion by 4 clear goals in the Highland Welfare Cup 1st round. In the same competition Cullen also progressed defeating Buchanhaven by 3-2 with K. Ferguson scoring a hat trick. In their second win of the week they beat Portsoy by 6-0 in Div. 1 since the league split. The scorers were Christie (2) R.Bruce, I. Mair and D Lamont.

New Jags role for stalwart Lynne: Buckie Thistle have unveiled a well-known face to fill the club’s vacant commercial role. Stepping up to the plate for the club is a behind- the -

scenes stalwart at Victoria Park Lynne Sutherland. The role will involve her working on various fund/raising /selling activities within the football club and at the same time enhancing the club and its profile throughout the community. A club spokesman said:”We wish Lynne all the best in this new role.”

Buckie finished the Highlands and Islands Women’s League campaign in fifth spot, with 10 points from 11 games. Their debut season in this league also saw them reach a cup semi final.
