DEAR ALUMNI AND FRIENDS,

The dedication of South Hall is a once-in-a Welcome! lifetime event, the culmination of much hard work by many people. Nearly 80 years have passed sin ce the completion of Hutchins Hall in 19 34 and the ceremonial dedication of the William W. Cook Quadrangle in 1935. This weekend we welcome the youngest member of the Quad family, our first new academic building in eight decades.

South Hall, along with the Robert B. Aikens Commons and the Kirkland & Ellis Cafe, is transforming the Michigan Law community and the lives of those who study and teach here. These wonderful new facilities also will transform what we can and will do here. It is exciting to contemplate the fulfillment of our mission during the next century and the fresh new initiatives that will add to our historic strengths. We know that Michigan Law will remain a challenging, collegial environment where students can receive an unparalleled legal education.

I want to extend heartfelt thanks to all who have brought this dream to fruition. We could not have created these new faci lities without the generous support of hundreds who shared our commitment and our vision. As we gather to celebrate this beautiful building, I salute you, our loyal supporters, whose generosity will make so much possible for future generations of students at Michigan Law. I hope you have a most enjoyable and memorable weekend.

Sincerely,

Evan H. Caminker Dean and Branch Rickey Collegiate Professor of Law

On behalf of the student body, I want to thank everyone who has helped to make our new facilities possible. As a third-year student, I have been fortunate to be enrolled here during the time of the building of South Hall, the Robert B. Aikens Commons, and the Kirkland & Ellis Cafe. I'm pleased to tell you that with the completion of each element of the project, student life here has changed forever.

South Hall meets the Law School's needs beautifully. Its classrooms and seminar rooms suit the wide variety of class sizes today's law student typically experiences. The clinical law suite gives this renowned program a truly professional setting. The technology throughout the building is amazing. And it's great to have student services offices under the same roof at last.

I'm especially proud that South Hall received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification at the Gold level-evidence of the Law School's commitment to sustainability.

The new facilities will have a positive impact on student life for decades to come. I hope you enjoy the dedication weekend, and that you know how much we appreciate your generosity.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth A. Och President, Law School Student Senate JD+ MS Candidate, May 2014 Law School School of atural Resources and Environment
