HOW TO REACH THE UNIVERSIDAD CARLOS III The department’s address is Departamento de Economía de la Empresa, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid C / Madrid, 126B 28903 Getafe (Madrid) TAXI Getting to the university by taxi usually takes 20 minutes from Madrid’s center and it costs approximately 25 Euros. Our department is in Building 6 (“Normante”) of the Getafe Campus while the seminar room (Salòn de Grados) is in the Building 8 (Edificio de Rectorado). Business Department Salon de Grados By Public transportation SUBWAY Take Line 10 until Puerta del Sur and then Line 12 until subway station: Juan de la Cierva. (http://www.metromadrid.es/acc_resources/pdfs/Plano_Metro_2007.pdf). It takes 40 minutes in total and it costs 1,50 € .The University is 4 minutes walk (see below). BUS: To reach the university by bus, take the BUS E1 from Plaza Atocha (the bus stop is near Kentucky Fried Chicken) until Plaza Elíptica, ( or by subway: Line 6: Plaza Eliptica). Then From Plaza Eliptica take the “green” bus lines 441 or 442, gates 16 and 17. The buses ride take approximately 25 minutes and they stop right in front of the university’s main entrance. The total cost is 2,5 €. TRAIN At the Atocha Renfe Station (Estación de Atocha, see map below) take the commuter train (“Cercanías”) line number 4 to Parla and stop at “Las Margaritas Universidad” station. Trains run approximately every 15 minutes and it takes approximately 20 minutes to get to “Las Margaritas Universidad” from Atocha. (1,50 €) To reach the Universidad Carlos III from the train station, it is a 10 minutes walk along Calle Madrid. Atocha Renfe station From Las Margaritas Station to Universidad Carlos III .

Transportation infrastructure impacts on firm location: the effect of a new metro line in the suburbs of Madrid Lucia Mejia-Dorantes , Antonio Paez , Jose Manuel Vassallo Firm location patterns emerge as a consequence of multiple factors, including firm considerations, labor force availability, market opportunities, and transportation costs. Many of these factors are influenced by changes in accessibility wrought by new transportation infrastructure. In this paper we use spatial sta tistical techniques and a micro-level data base to evaluate the effects of Madrid's metro line 12 (known as Metrosur) expansion on business location patterns. The case study is the municipality of Alcorcon, which is served by the new metro line since 2003. Specifically, we explore the location patterns by dif ferent industry sectors, to evaluate if the new metro line has encouraged the emergence of a "Metrosur spatial economy". Our results indicate that the pattern of economic activity location is related to urban accessibility and that agglomeration, through economies of scale, also plays an important role. The results presented in this paper provide evidence useful to inform efficient transportation, urban, and regional economic planning. 1. Taxi All terminals have clearly signed taxi areas outside the arrivals area. Official taxis are white with a red stripe and have the Madrid City Council coat-of-arms on their doors. Avoid people who offer taxi services inside the terminals. Make sure that the taxi driver starts the meter at the beginning of the journey (minimum fare). Ask for a receipt in the event of a complaint. Travel time from the airport to Madrid is approximately 20 - 30 minutes. 2. These requirements make metro networks the ideal candidate as the most efficient mean of transport in our society. Now, a correct management of this type of infrastructures entails the analysis of the structure and robustness of these networks. This allows us to detect malfunctions and, above all, to design in the most appropriate way the expansion of subway networks. This is one of the major challenges facing the study of transport networks in sustainable smart cities. In this sense, the complex network analysis provides us with the necessary scientific tools to perform both quantitative and qualitative analysis of metro networks. This work deals with Madrid metro network, which is the largest in Spain. The main structural and topological characteristics, and robustness features of Madrid metro network were studied.
