Presentation

Dear resident:

All of us working at the "Fernando de los Ríos" Residence Hall welcome you and wish you a pleasant stay. The Carlos III University of Residence Halls seek to create a scenario with the appropriate conditions to complete the academic education provided by our University.

With this in mind, the "Fernando de los Ríos" Residence Hall, honoring its namesake, seeks for its residents to merge academia with humanities in an environment of coexistence; thus requiring respect and mutual tolerance.

Here we provide the information we believe may be useful for you, especially during the first days of your stay.

1.2. General Services

The Fernando de los Rios Residence Hall offers a series of additional services in order to fulfill all your needs while you are away from home.

1. Concierge and video-surveillance services:

For your security and in order to improve your stay with constant attention, we offer you a 24 hours concierge service which is completed with a video-surveillance service. However, we advise our residents not to leave their belongings behind in the common areas and to keep their dorm rooms closed while they are out. The Residence Hall will not be held responsible for stolen items or money within our Center or the possible damages suffered by the vehicles parked in our parking lot.

2. Cafeteria and Restaurant service:

The Residence Hall has a self-service cafeteria-dining hall. The entitlements and duties of Residents regarding this service can be found on the notice board inside the Cafeteria.

3. Room cleaning service:

The Residence Hall has a semimonthly cleaning service. You will be informed of this cleaning service with enough time to pick up and tidy your belongings. If the room has not been sufficiently tidied, thus preventing the task of the cleaners, the cleaning service will be cancelled until the next corresponding period, 15 days or 1 month later, depending on the accommodation regime. Likewise, we inform you that this cleaning service is a general one; therefore you must tidy, clean and keep your room in good condition. Additionally, we offer the possibility of hiring additional cleaning (please refer to the price list).

4. Study Rooms:

The Residence Hall has a study room available for our residents.

5. Library:

This common area, which may be used for studying, holds a vast collection of books on different subject matters (History, Law, and Science) as well as all the literary genres; novels, theater and poetry. The schedule and the book request procedures are available for consultation.

6. IT Service and on-line incident communication service:

• The Residence Hall provides the following services:

1. WIFI in all common areas as well as in all rooms.

2. Free connection service via cable in your own room. Access to this service is conditioned by the current regulations governing the use of the telematic network and computer service of the Residence Hall, which contemplates restrictions on the use of excessive bandwidth.

3. Computer service, with the same basic services offered at the University's Computer Rooms, which consists of various computers with internet access situated in the Hall.

4. Document printing service using the computers in the Hall which will be sent to the printer, also located in the Hall. (consult price list).

5. I.T support for whenever you have any problem with this service, where any problems must be directed using the Intranet service of the Residence Hall where your petition will be resolved as soon as possible.

7. Garage service:

The Residence Hall has 83 underground garage lots for the use of all residents who request it by paying the correspondent fee.

The Residence Hall will not be held responsible for possible damages suffered by the vehicles parked in our parking lot.

8. Laundry service:

There is a laundry service consisting of a laundry room with washers and dryers that work with coins (please refer to the price list). Please note that it is forbidden to hang your laundry in the terrace or from the windows of your room.

9. T.V. and music room:

We have a T.V and video room, a music room (please refer to the schedule and rules) and also other multi-purpose rooms equipped with televisions.

10. Gym, sports and games: The Residence Hall has a small gym. Additionally, as our resident, you will enjoy preferential access at the Universities sports facilities. The Carlos III University of Madrid has, in its Getafe and Leganés campuses, sports facilities where you may play tennis, squash, basketball, enjoy the indoor pool, massages, sauna, and use the weight room, etc. There you may enjoy reduced prices as one of our residents. The Residence Hall promotes the creation of soccer and 3.

basketball teams, etc. to play in the different competitions held by the University. Furthermore, in the Cafeteria, we have at the disposal of our residents table football and table tennis facilities.

11. Bicycle Rental Service

The Residence Hall has various bicycles which are available to be used by residents.

12. Mail service:

The concierge will receive all correspondence, notes and messages and will inform the residents on their arrival.

13. Assembly hall:

We have an Assembly Hall fully equipped with a PA system and a computerized TV-DVD- Projector system.

14. Short stay accommodation service:

The Residence Hall has a certain amount of rooms which may be used by the Carlos III University of Madrid's guest professors or other guests of the University's departments. This service may also be used by our residents' families. Please contact the Residence Hall's Administration Service for further information on these rooms and on how to hire this service.

15. Telephone service:

Basic service:

The calls between rooms or any other extension in the building are free of cost. Calls to the emergency services can be made from all rooms, always dialing 0 beforehand, For example: 0 112. You may also receive external calls. If you receive an external call, and the caller is using a tone dial telephone, they may dial your extension number once they are connected with the switchboard without having to speak to the operator, if this were not possible, the call will be received by the concierge. Your extension number is your room number.

External call service:

If you wish to make external calls you will have to hire this service at the Administration office, following the requisites below: a) The Administration office will issue a bank order against your account with these calls together with the bimonthly invoices for room and board. b) The holder of the line shall always request, in writing, the cancellation of this service.

Once this service is contracted, calls can be made from any telephone by introducing your PIN.

Internal voicemail service:

We offer this service free of cost which works as follows: Your voicemail is an automatic answering service, therefore, when you are not in your room, your voicemail will receive your calls. You may personalize the message or greeting if you wish. When the voicemail service is activated for the first time you will need to dial the PIN: 12349876. On the following page you can consult the basic instructions for using the telephone.

16. Administration:

We have an Administration service where you may find information about the different activities and procedures of the Residence Hall. Its opening hours are Monday through Friday from 8.30 to 14.30 hours and from 16.00 to 18.00 hours, except for Friday afternoons. The Administration extension number is 806 or 808.

We also have an INTRANET service at the Residence Hall where you can consult notifications, conferences, sporting activities, trips, etc. This information may also be provided by the sending of e-mails.

17. Maintenance service:

This service is offered from Monday to Friday to carry out all types of repair in the rooms of the residents; while during weekends there is an emergency service available for extraordinary breakdowns. Please request maintenance repairs through the Intranet service of the Residence Halls.

18. First aid kit:

The Residence Hall is not authorized to give our residents any sort of medication. However, the Administration office of each Residence Hall has a first aid kit (band-aids, dressings, antiseptic, etc.)

1.3. Useful information:

Regrouping of double rooms

The Management/Administration of the Residence Hall, due to organizational reasons, may regroup those residents in double rooms whose roommate has left during the academic year. These residents must relocate as established by the Management/Administration, and they may even have to change rooms if the Management decides so. This circumstance may take place any time within the academic year, including the Easter, Christmas and summer holidays.

Room checks

Your room is one of the places where you will be spending most of your study and free time; therefore it is necessary for it to be kept in good condition so it is comfortable and enjoyable. With this in mind, the Residence Hall has drafted an inventory detailing all the accessories your room must have. This will allow you to spot any anomaly and request its repair. You will be given this form when you enter the Residence Hall. The deadline to return this form, fully completed, is one week upon entering your room. In the event that you fail to return it, the Residence Hall will consider the room to be in perfect condition and from that moment onwards you will be solely responsible for its care.

The Residence Hall's objects, furniture and services must be respected at all times and placing stickers, posters or paintings on the walls, closets or doors of your room is strictly forbidden. Additionally, you must make appropriate use of all of the Residence Hall's objects, furniture, services and rooms according to their intended use.

Important: *It is forbidden to move the furniture from one common room to another, from the common rooms to the rooms or from one room to another without the specific permission from the Management and it shall always be returned to its original place, even if it was authorized. *For residents with full board, the kitchen appliances in the room will be disabled. *Pets are not allowed.

Garbage removal

The Residence Hall has garbage rooms. These rooms are open all day, but in order to avoid bad odor we recommend that you throw your trash during the following hours: From Monday through Sunday from 18:00 to 21:00 hours.

The waste must be deposited in closed plastic bags and left inside the containers. For health reasons, it is forbidden to leave garbage bags in the common areas or in the hallways, outside these rooms or in your room.

Location of the Garbage rooms.

The garbage collection service implies an important effort on behalf of the Residence Hall. We have tried to organize it by establishing the order in which to dispose of your waste, depending on each room's location. Therefore, and in order to keep the Residence Hall clean and tidy, we kindly request you to leave you trash in your designated garbage room, as established below:

Rooms that must use the garbage room in the 1st floor (beside room No. 142)

1st Floor: Rooms with even numbers from 142 to 160, inclusive. 2nd Floor: Rooms with even numbers from 230 to 260, inclusive. 3rd Floor: Rooms with even numbers from 330 to 360, inclusive.

Rooms that must use the garbage room in the 1st floor (beside room No. 141)

1st Floor: Rooms with odd numbers from 141 to 159, inclusive. 2nd Floor: Rooms with odd numbers from 229 to 259, inclusive. 3rd Floor: Rooms with odd numbers from 329 to 359, inclusive.

Rooms that must use the garbage room located on the 2nd and 3rd floor

2nd Floor: From room 201 to 228, inclusive. 3rd Floor: From room 301 to 328, inclusive.

Rooms that must use the garbage room located on the 4th floor

4th Floor: All.

5th Floor: All.

Rooms that must use the garbage room located on the 6th floor

6th Floor: All.

Additionally, we inform you that you will find recycling bins for paper, plastic, containers and cans at the Residence Hall's exit. Therefore, we ask that you throw such waste in these containers and thus contribute to preserve the environment.

Emergency procedures

The Residence Hall has a fire detection alarm that is activated in case of emergency. At the beginning of the academic year an informative lecture is given which all new residents are obliged to attend. Throughout the academic year emergency and evacuation drills will be carried out, this ensures a satisfactory execution of the Residence Hall's Protection Plan.

Card sockets in rooms

The rooms have special electronic card sockets where the room's key-card is to be inserted for the lights and the sockets to work. The card sockets will only work with the room card the Residence Hall has given you at the beginning of the academic year. If the resident were not in the room, the cards should not be connected to any system. Manipulation or inappropriate use of the card holders is a punishable misdemeanor. At the Reception loaner keys are available for a maximum of half an hour (enough time to find the original and return to the loaner). If the resident holds the loan key for more than half an hour it will be assumed that they have lost the key and automatically be charged for a new key (according to the current rates), without any possibilty of refund, even in the case of finding the original key later. A loan key can be requested a maximum of three times per week, as of the 4th time an automatic charge will be made for the corresponding amount of a lost key (according to current rates). You must check the rates with Administration in case of a lost or broken key.

Cultural activities

The Residence Hall offers a broad variety of cultural activities. It is your right and duty to participate in such activities. You must sign up for these activities through the Intranet service of the Residence Halls.

Press

You may read the daily press which is available in the Concierge room, where you may find the daily papers (EL MUNDO, EL PAÍS and AS). You will also find a range of magazines of cultural interest (The Economist, National Geographic History, Muy Interesante, The Time, New Yorker y National Geographic).

Leisure games

When your studies leave you a moment for relaxation you may share some of your free time with your colleagues using the board games the Residence Hall has at your disposal. We also have table football, table tennis, footballs, tennis, padel and squash racquets for you to practice your favorite sports along with a Playstation 4 and a Laser pistol game.

Photocopies In the Hall of the Residence Halls you will find a multiuse printer to photocopy or print. It works with coins and each copy or printout, in black and white, will cost you € 0.05. If you require binding or any other related service, you may find establishments on Campus or its surroundings.

2. Information about the University

The Carlos III University of Madrid offers many interesting and useful services, such as:

• Culture: Courses and activities in the fields of Music, Drama, Dance, Travel, Exhibits, etc. • Shows: Theater, Music, Dance, Opera, Zarzuela (Spanish Operetta), etc. in the "Padre Soler" Auditorium located on the Leganés Campus. • Sports: Where you may find, among others, activities such as :dual bike, aerobics, body-tonic; tai-chi or kick-boxing courses. Soccer, basketball or volleyball championships. Paddle tennis, chess or ping-pong tournaments. Both the Getafe and the Leganés Campuses have multi- sports facilities, but only Leganés has an indoor pool. Also, on the Getafe campus, you will find the Spa installations. • Psychological and Psycho-pedagogical counseling. • Disabled students’ integration program. • Volunteer work program.

3. Information about Getafe

Public Transport

• Buses to Madrid: Bus lines 441 and 442, the stop is located on Calle Madrid beside the Residence Hall. The bus service begins at 06:00am and runs until 00:00am. There ia also a reduced nocturnal service between 00:00am and 06:00am.

• Train to Madrid: You will be able to catch the commuter train (Cercanías) line C4 at the stop beside the Residence Hall. The name of this station is Las Margaritas/Universidad.

• Metro-Sur (line 12): the closest metro stops are “Juan de la Cierva” and “”.

• Estación Avenida de América (Metro Avenida de América - Line 6).

Post Office

The closest post office can be found at the Bulevar shopping center which is located on Ctra. Getafe – Villaverde. Telephone: 916825119

Police Station

The local Police Station can be found on C/ Churruca Nº 6. Tel. 91 601 09 10. Opening hours for general inquiries are from 09:00 until 14:00.

Health center and Hospital

• “Las Margaritas” public health center is close to the Residence Hall and is located on C/Magallanes, 6 – 28903 Getafe, Madrid. Tel.: 91 682 22 94. You need to take your public health card (or accrediting health cover document in the case of international students) along with a certificate of residence, provided at the administration office of the Halls by request.

• Hospital Universitario de Getafe (Getafe Teaching Hospital). It is only a 10 minute drive away from the Residence Hall, it is located on the Madrid-Toledo Road, km. 12.500. Tel.: 91 683 93 60.

Avda. de las Ciudades

You may find ATMs from BANKIA, LA CAIXA AND BANCO SANTANDER on the Avenida de las Ciudades. As well as book stores, hardware stores, pharmacies and the Margaritas market.

Calle Madrid

The Calle Madrid is a street that begins at the roundabout next to our Residence Hall, this street is the city's commercial hub. Just where the asphalt gives way to the pedestrian area you may find the busiest area in Getafe. Here you will find stores like “Springfield”, “Lefties”, “Bershka”, “Pull and Bear”, etc. and fast-food restaurants such as “Burger King” or “Bocata” in this area. The Town Hall and the post office are located at the end of the pedestrian street.

Establishments

At the end of the Getafe/Villaverde road you will find the Bulevar shopping mall. There you may find a Carrefour (where you may purchase the necessary furnishings for your room), a movie theater, many stores and restaurants. This is the main place where our residents spend most of their leisure time. It is open until 22:00, except for the movie theater and the restaurants that remain open until much later. There is also a post office in this shopping mall.

At the Metro-Sur "El Bercial" metro stop you will find the "El Bercial" Corte Inglés (a Spanish department store) and a Hipercor.

Cinemas

The closest cinema can be found at the shopping mall Parquesur. Avda. Gran Bretaña (Leganés).
